Chapter 1: Horrid Beginnings

Chapter Text

In my dreams, I recollect a vague silhouette of a woman. A woman with silky brown skin and the most gorgeous curls. She stares down lovingly at me and I feel safe with her.

I know her, yet I don't. Who are you, and why do you make me feel…vulnerable?

Why do you make me feel like myself? Not E3, not Anti, Enyo. You remind me of who I truly am.

Your hand lifts and I flinch, preparing to be hit but instead, you caress my cheek and whisper sweet nothings that lull me to sleep. Motherly, she is.

I feel an ache in my heart, something that unlocked a long-forgotten part of who I once was. Who. Are. You?

She softly rocks me to awaken me as the sun seeps through the warm skies, and into my window. She is gentle, and caring. I am tangled in a sweet nuzzle that leaves me with carefree giggles and she extends her hand to me.

I grab it without worry about what's to come and we go downstairs, approaching a kitchen table brimming with tarts and breakfasts. We eat, mindlessly conversing. I hear random memories spewing from my mouth but I cannot control what I say or do.

She's motherly, but she couldn't be— could she?

A man joins us, dark and collected. He is relaxed and unwary about life. We clean up the morning doings and one hand on each side is held firmly but with ease. We walk for a few meters, eventually reaching a bustling playground.

No. No, no, no, no, NO.

They are so happy to see me play, I feel the energy shift in the playground as more enjoyers are leaving the park.

It's just us, I see those green eyes and I want to scream. I want to cry. I want to shout. I know what is going to happen, but nobody else does. I want to save them.

LET ME SAVE THEM.

The man says it's time to go for a walk, and we make our way to our favorite trail.

We are farther and farther from the public eye dipping off the path to explore the natural remedies of the earth and I see those haunting green eyes closer and closer. I can't stop this.

I want to stop this. Let me stop this. No. I can't. I cannot change history, even if I want to.

We are blocked by a white truck parked in the middle of the woods. One of the wheels came off and out came him. His ginger ringlets shifted back and forth as he walked towards us.

He asks for help fixing his tire, and the man, my father, agrees without a second thought. His attention focused on the truck is his downfall, as Xiosis let out that horrible grin.

BANG!

He plunged, and I could see his brains. I never expected them to look like that. How do I still remember this?

The woman, my mother, shrieked in fear, clutching me to her hip and beginning to run through the endless forest. Xiosis had a keen eye however, he always had one.

BANG!

Then she went down too.

I bumbled to the ground, rolling into a stray tree in the path. I could feel tears streaming down my face yet I hadn't even realized I had begun to cry.

I covered my ears and cowered down, scared of what he would do to me. I remembered my father’s words.

Hide and seek.

Sneaking behind a snow-covered bush, I curled into a ball. I heard his shouts, calling my name, but all he did was walk past.

There it began. Everything. Everything began after that day. Maybe it could've been avoided if we hadn't gone to the park that day.
