Work Text:
They were together all the time now.
Every day at Hexside, every sleepover at the Owl House, Luz brought her along. Every single day, Willow was forcibly reminded of years of pain, and Luz didn't seem to care.
When Luz first began to bond with her, Willow had been uncomfortable, but didn't say anything. It wasn't her life, so she should just stay out of it. But soon her old mantra of "out of sight, out of mind" wasn't working anymore. Luz insisted on bringing her everywhere, and seemed to expect Willow to get along with her tormentor, to forget nearly a decade of trauma in a matter of weeks.
She couldn't take it anymore.
They were sitting together now. Luz being sickeningly affectionate with her, not noticing or caring how uncomfortable her "best friend" was. Enough was enough.
Willow took Luz aside, practically dragging her away from her new obsession. "We need to talk about her." She said.
"Willow..." Luz started awkwardly, "I know you two have history, but I thought you were working through it! It's not like she's gonna randomly turn on you!"
"No Luz!" Willow exploded. "You need to respect my boundaries! I can't deal with this anymore! I thought I could just stay quiet and everything would turn out OK, but..."
The plant witch took a deep breath and looked Luz in the eye, blinking back tears.
"It's either her...or me."
"Willow, I had no idea you were still hurting this much."
"Clearly, you don't know or care as much as I thought you did."
"I do care, Willow." Luz insisted. "And to prove it..." The human fought tears of her own. "I'll get rid of Señora manchas negras."
Luz walked solemnly back to the cafeteria. Sadly, she opened the jar, held it out the window, and let the insect fly free. Willow breathed a sigh of relief.
"If you love something, let it go." Luz said. "Unless it's, y'know, not a pet."
"I still don't know how you thought you could train a ladybug," Amity complained.
