Lena Luthor: Supervillain

Summary:

Kara's sick of the Super Friends judging Lena on her family's actions, and decides to prove them wrong.

Lena should not be allowed near a phone when drinking

Work Text:

The super friends had only been present in her apartment for half an hour, and they were already going off about her friendship with Lena. It was meant to be game night, a fun time for them all to unwind and not think about all the stress that comes with knowing, being or helping Supergirl. But it seemed that they just couldn’t let her friendship with Lena slide.

Maggie started it off by asking “what’s Lena up to tonight?” And it had gone from there. Honestly, she was over it.

Lena had been in town for months now, had done nothing but go about her own noticeably non-villainous business, and Kara had a feeling in her gut that the woman could be trusted.

“You wanna know what the “evil” Lena Luthor is doing right now?” She asked, lowering her glasses and turning her head in the direction of Lena’s penthouse. “She’s dancing in her kitchen with a glass of wine. That’s it. So evil, I know. Should we go arrest her now, or will we get a SWAT team to storm L-Corp in the morning?” She said sarcastically. And yet they still went on. No one seemed interested in even trying to give the woman a chance.

Finally done with it all, Kara told them to leave. No game night if they couldn’t let it go.

There were protests, of course. Alex tried to backtrack, though Kara knew it was to calm her down, and not because she was finally willing to trust her judgement about her friend. James still tried - although gently - to reassure her that they were just looking out for her, even as she became more visibly infuriated. Maggie at least tried to have her back, stating that it was a conversation for another time, and Winn sat quietly by the table, taking no sides, but seeming pretty conflicted about it.

Still, Kara made them leave. She was done with all of this, and a large part of that came from the lack of faith her friends and family had in her judgement. Kara wasn’t stupid, she didn’t just rush into things without thinking, despite what Alex may think.

Every move she made had to be calculated and considered so no one got hurt. Every person she let into her life had to earn her trust before she even thought of them as a friend, and an even deeper level of that trust was required before she even considered telling them she was Supergirl.

Shaking her head of her frustration, she decided to prove them all wrong. Still in her civvies, she floated out the window, and headed towards Lena’s penthouse.

Watching Lena Luthor headbang to metal in an expensive pantsuit and stockings, her wine just barely managing to stay in the glass, was something Kara would never forget as she landed on the balcony and indulged in the sight. She had intended to knock when the song ended, but Lena caught sight of her in her periphery and finally spilled some wine over the rim of her glass as a hand came to her chest in shock.

“Kara! How on Earth did you get up there?” Lena exclaimed as she yanked the sliding door open.

Kara sighed, undoing the top two buttons of her shirt to reveal the top of her family crest, “I flew” she shrugged, watching Lena’s eyes widen.

“Oh” the woman said eloquently, before shaking her head. “Bloody hell, Kara, get inside! Someone could see you!” She commanded, dragging Kara into the penthouse before stepping out onto the balcony herself, checking every possible direction for paparazzi. She shut and locked the door, sliding the curtains over to cover the window fully

“What are you thinking, flying around in your regular clothes? That’s so dangerous! What if someone saw you?” Lena turns to ask Kara sternly, and Kara smiles a little. She knew Lena could be trusted.

The CEO huffs out a sigh as she properly looks at Kara “what’s wrong? You look…sullen. Isn’t it game night tonight?” Lena asks, her head tilting slightly. Kara groans as she turns to the couch, plonking onto it and stretching her legs out in front of her as her head tilts back to stare at the ceiling.

“It was game night tonight, yes. And almost immediately everyone was going on about how terrible and evil you are, how you can’t be trusted and being friends with you is a risk. Honestly, I’m over it” she said, the frustration evident in her tone, “if I’m this grumpy about it after a few months, I can’t imagine how hard it is for you”

Lena collects her wine and an extra glass and joins Kara on the couch, pouring one for her friend. “it’s difficult, that’s for certain. But that kind of makes me want to prove them wrong even more. Make them eat their words” she smirks playfully, and Kara actually laughs before it morphs into another groan as her phone began to vibrate in her pocket.

She pulls it out to see the caller ID, then pockets it again without answering.

Lena tilts her head in askance, and Kara shakes hers “it’s Alex. I don’t want to talk to her right now.” Kara explains, and Lena makes a sound of understanding. Almost immediately after the first call ends, another starts, and Kara once again views the ID, dropping her phone to the couch cushion to let it ring out upon seeing Alex’s name again.

When it rings a third time, Lena grabs the phone from the cushion, winking at Kara’s confusion as she hits accept

Across town, the super friends sit around the coffee table at Alex’s place. They’d gone there to regroup and talk about what happened at game night. Agreeing that while the Luthor situation was still definitely a concern, but that game night wasn’t the place to bring it up, they decided to call Kara on speaker to apologise for ruining her night.

When the call is finally answered, Alex speaks up “Kara, hey…” she starts

“Ah, Agent Danvers. So good of you to call” comes Lena’s voice through the speaker, and suddenly the whole room is on edge. Alex doesn’t get a chance to respond as the woman continues

“As you’ve likely guessed, I’ve captured Supergirl. She’s here and…tied up?…” her voice goes soft for a moment, as if she’s pulled the speaker a little further away from her mouth. “what usually happens when you get captured? Oh, yes, right. KRYPTONITE! So much Kryptonite, Agent Danvers! I’m even wearing a Kryptonite thong to be extra safe!”

There’s a spit-take in the background, followed by some giggles. Again, it seems Lena pulls the phone away from her mouth “darling, this is good wine. Tastes much better when swallowed instead of spat across the room”

Alex’s hand comes to rub at the bridge of her nose, but Lena continues “that’s right, Agent Danvers! I’m going to get Supergirl plastered and send her flying home, then I shall call the police and report a drunk flyer, and the world will finally know what Supergirl really is! A superhero with a DUI and a strange love of cheerleading outfits!” The giggles in the background devolve into a cackle, with some words interspersed throughout

“What do you mean you can’t get dru-what?…human alcohol doesn’t…what do you mean???” Lena asks the guffawing person in the background, sounding more and more alarmed. “How do you have fun?…alien rum? There’s alien rum? …Oh, yes, my villain monologue. Ahem. THAT’S RIGHT, AGENT DANVERS! FEAR ME! For I shall finally succeed where my family has failed!”

By this point, James is rubbing his temples while Maggie and Winn barely hold it together, Alex staring dispassionately at the wall as Lena’s “villain monologue” moves forward

“AND! - Oh yes, Agent, there’s more - AND! I shall send her off into the night, not in her cheerleading uniform, but in fluffy socks and a Batman onesie! Because I really hate that bat guy, too, so I figure I’ll get a two-for-one deal” at this, there’s a thump, accompanied by a cracking sound and Lena gasps

“Darling, are you alright? Jesus, you’ve dented the floor. And knocked my wine over! How am I meant to make a convincing villain without wine?…a cat? I don’t have a cat…OH! Wait!” There’s some shuffling on the line, and the sound of wheezing laughter fades. A door creaks and there’s more movement, something else falling to the ground

“A-ha! This will do!” Lena exclaims, and the laughter starts to get louder again before Lena huffs. The background person croaks something “what? You don’t like Mr. Bear? I think he’d make a wonderful villain pet! Look, he’s only got one eye. He’s perfect! …you’re a philistine, Kara. You simply can’t comprehend my villainous genius! Now where was I? Oh yes! I shall ruin the reputation of Supergirl and bat dude! Because I’m eeevvilllll! …what? …laugh? …right! Villainous laugh! Ahem, MUAHAHAHAHA!”

Winn finally cracks, Maggie not far behind, and even Alex is having difficulty hiding a smile now

“But you can stop this, Agent Danvers! Oh yes, for I am a benevolent psychopath! For the price of a decent contractor’s number, I shall release Supergirl to you! As long as he can fix this dent in my floor, honestly Kara, how fat is your arse?” Alex can’t hold the scoff back, but bites her inner cheek before it gets out of hand. Lena continues talking to Kara in the background

“Does Supergirl have a contractor on retainer? …you bloody should, there’s an arse-print in my floor! I could pour plaster in that and sell your arse on Etsy …OnlyFans? I don’t think your arse print would pull many subscribers on OnlyFans, darling. Not very exciting to look at …it’s hardly my fault an imprint of your arse isn’t wank bank material …what’s wrong with wank bank? Really, Kara, you’re so uncultured. Alex, why on earth are you still on the line?” Lena finally asks, and Alex sighs heavily

“I was waiting for you to shut up long enough to tell you there’s paperwork to sign. Have my fat-ass sister bring you to the DEO tomorrow morning and I’ll get you the number for a contractor. Just please don’t start selling plaster casts of Supergirl’s ass” Alex says with finality, ending the call before the pair on the other end say or do anything else ridiculous

Back at the penthouse, Kara’s managed to climb back up on the couch, wheezing and holding her stomach. Lena seems completely unaffected aside from a wide smile.

“Feel better now, darling?”

“Other than my stomach hurting from the laughter, yeah. Thanks, Lena” Kara grins back

“Thank you, Kara. For allowing that to happen, and for trusting me with your identity” Lena smiles back. “Movie?”

“Yeah! Can we order food?”

“Potstickers?”

“Of course! You’re my favourite, you know that?”

“You’re my favourite, too”
