Chapter Text
Part 1: it happened so quickly…
BASIL was walking to his friends, SUNNY and MARI'S house. Their other friends, KEL, AUBREY, and HERO were out preparing for the recital that SUNNY and MARI were planning on doing that night. BASIL arrives to their house, and opens the door. He isn't greeted by the sound of piano and violin, instead he's greeted with the sound of his friends running up the stairs. BASIL is confused and hides behind the wall and watches. BASIL hears them yelling, followed by the sound of wood breaking.
"SUNNY..why did you do that!? We all worked so hard for that violin!! How will you play tonight!?" MARI yells at SUNNY, BASIL looks at the broken violin at the bottom of the stairs, in fear. "I never wanted to play this stupid recital! Just leave me alone!" SUNNY yells at MARI in response, and starts trying to go downstairs. MARI blocks SUNNY. "Where do you think you're going? I'm not done talking to you!" "JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!!!" SUNNY screams, followed by MARI screaming in fear, and a loud thud at the bottom of the stairs.
BASIL is horrified, looking at MARI laying on the floor, not getting up. "..MARI?" SUNNY yells from the top of the stairs. BASIL walks out from behind the wall, and looks at SUNNY. "SUNNY…what did you do..?" BASIL says in horror. "I didn't mean it…MARI! Wake up! Please!" SUNNY tries to get MARI to wake up, but she won't. "Maybe she just needs rest…everything will be okay…" BASIL tries to reassure SUNNY, but deep down, he knows MARI is gone.
The boys carried MARI'S lifeless body upstairs, to put her in bed. Surely she just needs rest…right? A few minutes later, reality sets in for SUNNY. He starts panicking and BASIL worries about SUNNY's safety. BASIL looks outside, and sees the tree. He remembers a book he was reading, and he got an idea. "SUNNY..I have an idea, help me carry her outside."
BASIL goes into the closet and grabs the toybox. He takes the broken violin parts and puts them in the toy box to remove the evidence. The boys carry MARI outside, the wind slightly blowing. SUNNY just sits by the tree, zoning out. BASIL gets to work. "Is there a rope anywhere…ah, that jump rope should work" While tying the jump rope into a noose, BASIL starts thinking about everything he's doing. He starts to regret it.
"Wait..there's wood in her hair…that will make it too obvious." BASIL pulls out every last piece of wood in MARI'S hair. MARI'S messy black hair gets tangled in BASIL'S hands, BASIL feels nauseous feeling her hair. He eventually finishes taking out all the wood, put them in the toy box, and he hangs the body. "SUNNY…let's go inside." SUNNY and BASIL start walking towards the door, but then SUNNY turns his head to look, and he stops.
"SUNNY? What's wrong?" BASIL turns around, and he sees something he wish he didn't see. An eye. SUNNY runs inside and to his room, BASIL follows. "Don't worry. Everything is going to be okay…no matter what happens…promise me that we will always be here for eachother?" BASIL tries to comfort SUNNY, and suddenly the front door opens.
"We're baaaaack!!! SUNNY? MARI?" AUBREY yells downstairs. "..don't move..just stay here.." BASIL says, trying to calm SUNNY. They hear the back door open, followed by a scream from AUBREY. "OH MY GOD, MARI!!!!!" BASIL stays upstairs and tries to tune out their friends' screams for terror. SUNNY seems unbothered, still zoned out.
After everyone else left, BASIL leaves SUNNY and walks home. In his room, he starts to realize just how bad this was. He looks up, and sees it. A creature with 3 points and 1 big eye in the center stares back at him. All around him, he sees a shadow creature with one eye in the shape of a puddle surrounds him. BASIL breaks down and realizes he shouldn't have done what he did. MARI is gonna hate him for this.
