For Mayday's sake!

“And so, without too much ado, I would like to raise my glass to one of the finest regs I have ever met…” There was a small smirk aimed at Echo just then by the sniper.

“Echo does not count.” Wrecker chimed in, meaning despite having come to an understanding of there being no more division between how the clones saw each other, this remained as an inside joke for the Bad Batch.

Echo only let out a hefty chuckle. “Well, guess I can live with that.”

“To Mayday!”

They all raised their glasses to commemorate Mayday. All of them having heard the tale of the brave Commander from Crosshair. Those having known the trooper in the war, none in disagreement of the praise the sniper had given to Mayday. A surprise for some, but not for Crosshair’s closest family. Others even adding their own spin to the tall tales of the one they called, Mayday, gone but certainly never forgotten!

“To Mayday!” They let out three loud cheers as they toasted the Commander.

There was a lone tear falling from the sniper’s eye, quickly being wiped away before anyone else noticed. After all, Crosshair still had a reputation to maintain, that of the aloof sniper he was supposed to be. Only his family knew him better, Hunter and Echo having witnessed the watery eyes of Crosshair’s during his reminiscence of Mayday before the toast.

The team chatted for a moment about Mayday after the toasting was done. The Commander feeling like an old friend even if the rest of the Batchers having never had the pleasure of meeting him. Still with the stories Crosshair had told them, despite the sniper’s all too brief interactions with Mayday, they all felt like Mayday was a friend and an honorary member of the Bad Batch.

“So, we only have a few days before we leave…” The discussion soon shifted to their plans of their future, their journey to their new home. The team chatting away while enjoying the nice brew they were drinking.

Just then, there was a know at the door and Emerie Karr entering the room where the ceremony was held at. The Batchers quarters.

“Emerie. Please, join us!” Hunter offered the doctor.

Emerie glanced around the table, the familiar faces each urging her to sit and have a drink.

“Um, thanks.” She was still standing there unmoving. Her demeanour a tad off. Somewhat fidgety, nervous perhaps. “You might want to hold on the toasting for now. Or at least, the eulogy.”

“Oh? Why is that?” Tech was the first to ask.

“Well, as you know, we have only managed to sort through a fraction of the pods recovered of the test… um… clone troopers having been held in suspended animation back on Mount Tantiss.” Emerie looked up after having quickly checked her datapad. Not that she needed to as she already knew why she was there.

“And?” Crosshair and Hunter asked in unison, wanting to know what this was all about, both of them staring to get nervous too.

“Well… there is a chance, that one of them, is Commander Mayday.”

They all stared at her, mouth agape and totally surprised. Most of all though, Crosshair.
