Chapter 1: An Angel's Fall

Chapter Text

People often wish for immortality, seeing it as the ultimate form of omnipotence. They see it as a way to be able to do everything they want to do in their lifetime; as a blessing. Hell, even the angels in heaven, whom this power is granted to, see it that way. They see it as a way to live their blissful lives forever, to never have their lives ended. While this may be true for those who have good lives, this is not true for those who don't. Namely, The Fallen Angel, Lucifer Morningstar.

To the almighty King of Hell, immortality is a curse. He'd enjoyed it during his time in heaven. He didn't age, he was able to do the things he loved forever, and he could watch the happy souls on earth until the end of time. But now that he was in Hell, he loathed his immortality. Rather than bringing everlasting happiness, it brought him everlasting torment. He could never escape his trauma of being cursed by his loved ones and painfully cast out of his home. He had to live with it until the end of time. Even then, he wasn't sure it would end. For 10,000 years, he'd lived on. He'd had to live through his initial trauma from heaven, and then, he'd had to go through the pain of his wife abandoning him. The one he'd gone through all that suffering for had just left him in the blink of an eye, taking their beloved daughter with her and leaving him all alone.

Things had started to get better recently, what with him reuniting with Charlie and moving into the hotel. He had people who were there for him. But unfortunately, that wasn't an instant cure for 10 millenias worth of trauma. Which is what brought him to where he was now.

Lucifer had decided to hit the hay a few hours ago. He hadn't had to use his power of creation as much as he had in the past few days in a long time, so needless to say, he was exhausted. The King had barely had the time to snap his fingers to make some pajamas appear on his body before he flopped on his bed and promptly fell asleep, his wings wrapped around himself like a faux blanket. For the first little while, he slept soundly, not a peep coming from inside the feather burrito of his wings. But eventually, all good things must come to an end.

Suddenly, he was in the heavenly court room. He was clothed in his angelic robes with a halo atop his head. Glancing next to him, he saw Lilith, dressed in a simple cloth dress and looking absolutely furious. He looked up at the court, Sera practically glowing with divinity from where he could see her box. He remembered this day well. It was the day he'd fallen down to this firey pit. The day where everything went wrong.

"This court refuses your motion of free will and finds that Lucifer Morningstar and Lilith are guilty of treason. For this crime, you both shall be banished to the evil pit which you have created, never to see Heaven's gates or the light of day again. May you spend the rest of your eternal lives rotting in the firey pits of Hell."

Sera's verdict cut through the tension filled room like a knife, a fearful gasp forcing its way out of Lucifer's lungs. "No wait- You cant-!" But it was too late. The floor fell out from beneath the pair, sending both of them plummeting. Lucifer stretched out a hand as he fell, trying to grasp onto heaven, but failing. The wind violently whipped at the pair, causing their decent to speed up. Unfortunately for Lucifer, heaven had decided to curse him with one final parting gift. He yelped as he felt his wings catch ablaze, his eyes widening as he saw the orange-yellow flames creeping up the feathery appendages. For an angel who'd never felt pain before in his life, it was absolute agony. Flames burned his feathers and licked at the skin underneath, burning him harshly. He screamed as white hot pain engulfed his entire back, feathers flying away in the wind like Icarus. Though, he supposed that was fitting. He really had flown too close to the sun with this idea. The skin on his back felt like it was melting off! He tried to bat at the fire on his wings, but in doing so, caught his arms on fire as well. Another scream was caught in his throat, his arms and hands turning a disturbing shade of black. Eventually, the fire was put out. Whether it was due to the wind or heaven taking mercy on him, he didn't know.

The poor angel could barely even comprehend the pain he was in, but the ground of Hell was incoming and he would be damned if he let Lilith get hurt even more because of him. So despite his pain, he threw himself at his love, holding her close to his chest. He tried to flap his mangled wings to break their fall, but it was of no use. As they hit the ground, Lucifer woke up.

The fallen angel jolted awake, tears rolling down his cheeks and sobs wracking his small frame. God, everything hurt! His heart raced as he felt the burning in his wings, thinking they were still on fire. He'd dropped into headspace by the time he'd woken up, his brain not able to comprehend seeing what he'd experienced again. He sobbed loudly, crying out. "D-ada! Dada!"

Barely a few seconds later, Alastor burst into the room. He spotted his baby crying on the bed and his heart broke. He made his way over, sitting on the bed and pulling Lucifer into his arms. "Oh honey....It's alright. It's alright, I promise." He tried reassuring, hoping it would calm the angel down, but to no avail. "Hu'ts dada!! Wi'gs hu't!! Bu'nin'!" He cried, barely able to string together a coherent sentence. But Alastor caught the gist of it. "It's alright duckie. Your wings are perfectly fine." He cooed, grabbing the boy's stuffed apple and his paci. He slipped the paci in Lucifer's mouth, the little still crying but starting to suckle on it to self soothe. He'd had to help Lucifer deal with this phantom pain before, and the only thing that really worked was to give him a stimulus on the area that didn't hurt. So gently, he ran his fingers through Lucifer's feathers, starting to preen them. A few loose ones fell to the floor as they were disturbed. Once those were out, he gently straightened out any that had unzipped barbs, soothing the crying little in his lap.

All the while, he made shushing sounds and whispered sweet nothings to his baby, soothing him until his sobs subsided. Lucifer whimpered, hugging Alastor and nestling himself close to the radio demon's chest. "Dada s'eep wif me?" He asked around his paci, not wanting to sleep alone after the emotional meltdown he'd had. His wings no longer hurt and now he was just exhausted. Alastor kissed Lucifer's head, "Of course, lovely." He laid down with Lucifer, holding him close and rubbing comforting circles on his back. "Sleep my love. I won't let another soul hurt you ever again."
