Work Text:
It was evening at Talon HQ in Venice. A ram-like feminine demon slept on a futon not-so-generously provided to her by a certain shadowy individual.
“Get up.” A man, hooded in pitch-black with a terrifying skull for a head, dropped a blade on the body of the demon.
She snorted, opened her eyes slightly, then closed them once again. She groaned and said, “Five more minutes…”
“No time.” The man opened a window to reveal a good look at Venice. In the distance, there was a shuttle making its way to a drop point. The shuttle had an Overwatch logo on it. “They’re here.”
The demon sat up from the futon and yawned, wiping her eyes. “You could have at least given me a warning,” she groaned while grabbing her blade, “I’m not at my best without my beauty sleep, Reaper.”
“Shut it,” Reaper shot back, “Just get out there and take out the enemy, Zex.”
The demon named Zex looked out the window next to Reaper and noticed the group running off the shuttle. There was the gorilla named Winston, the hamster in a giant mech ball named Hammond, the queen of Junkertown aptly named Junker Queen, the musical legend named Lucio, the scientist of the arctic named Mei, and finally Tracer, the cadet of Overwatch who could act as the mascot of Overwatch as a whole. Then, after the Overwatch heroes made their entrance, her eyes widened at the sight of a familiar shiny Zorua with reading glasses and a Silverwing Quill in his paws. Then, a Zoroark with a bright blue mane and a dark blue scarf waving in the wind and a fluffy dinosaur-like tail ran out of the shuttle. An alien creature that had tentacles for legs, hat and clothes like a jester, and the face of a baby with white eyes and baby-like teeth slithered out of the shuttle with a blaster in hand. After that, a girl with long peachy pink hair and a dart gun in her hand ran out of the shuttle, nervous as could be. Finally, a man wearing an red Amazonian battle skirt with a blonde beard and a brown backpack charged into battle with a shining silver sword and shield.
Zex and Reaper both stepped out of the building and onto the smooth concrete of Venice. Once they pointed their weapons, more teammates came from behind to help them out: Genji of the former Shimada Clan, Moira the Minister of Genetics, and Doomfist the Mercenary who speaks softly and carries a big fist.
The first contact was Moira versus Winston. Moira used her Fade ability to turn herself ethereal for a split second and flash forward and up into the air at an increased height. Winston couldn’t get a good hit on her with his Tesla Cannon. Then, Chris, the shiny Zorua riding atop Winston, jumped off of him and pulled out his Silverwing Quill. “Winston! To me!”
Winston fired off his cannon towards Chris, and Chris deflected the bolt of lightning with his quill. The bolt went spiraling towards Moira, shocking her. Through the voltage spreading throughout her body, Moira fought through and shot out a Negative Biotic Orb. This sucked the life out of those who were within its range.
Chris and Winston both struggled to hold their own against the geneticist, but then a rallying cry from a few meters away courtesy of Junker Queen gave them enough energy to make a quick escape. Moira gasped and attempted to use Biotic Grasp on Junker Queen, but out of nowhere, Chrissy, the Zoroark from earlier, leapt into action. She swung her claws at Moira, dealing a hefty amount of damage to the geneticist’s chest.
Junker Queen held her own against Doomfist, firing off shrapnel rounds at him with her makeshift pump shotgun. Doomfist wasn’t having it. He jumped into the air and then slammed the ground with his fist, sending Junker Queen into the air. He lined up his stance, and then slammed his fist against Junker Queen’s stomach.
In another part of the city, Mei looked at the girl with the dart gun. “Aimi,” Mei called out to her, “Watch out!”
Aimi turned around quickly and had her dart gun pointed at Genji. She pleaded, “Please take it easy on me! I didn’t want to get involved in this!”
“Anata wa koko ni irubekide wa arimasen.” Genji responded, preparing three shurikens. He threw them at Aimi, but they were quickly blocked by an ice wall. Genji faced Mei and charged at her with a swift swing of his blade.
Mei trapped herself in a block of ice, nullifying the damage of the blade. Genji cursed to himself as Aimi fired off her dart gun, hitting the cyborg ninja in the buttocks. He quickly fell asleep on the ground. Mei broke out of her ice block and used her Endothermic Blaster to freeze Genji as he slept. “Nice work,” Mei said to Aimi.
“Heh, thank you,” Aimi replied, “Let’s keep going.”
Meanwhile, Zex and Reaper were holding their own against multiple members of Overwatch. Zex fired off swift bursts of Hellfire towards Hammond and his mech. The hamster couldn’t hold out much longer. Soon, everyone came to Hammond’s defense, surrounding the Leader of Hell and the Deadliest Being on Earth, Reaper.
Moira used her Fade ability to leap into the air and fire off a Positive Biotic Orb, healing Zex and Reaper of any damage sustained. “Now, Reaper!” The geneticist landed on the ground and took cover behind one of the buildings in Venice.
Reaper threw down his shotguns and Zex thrust her sword into the ground. With a spiraling Hellfire vortex of flames spinning around him, Reaper pulled out his Hellfire Shotguns and fired them off at a breakneck pace. The spinning vortex sent Winston and Chris flying back. Junker Queen threw her knife, Gracie, towards Zex, but the flames melted it. “Gracie, no!” Junker Queen screamed as both her and Chrissy flew back from the bullets flying their way.
Mei put up an ice wall to protect herself and Aimi, but some of the bullets were managing to protrude through the wall.
When the bullets stopped flying, Reaper threw down his empty shotguns and pulled out two more. Zex pulled her sword out from the ground and charged towards Chris the Zorua with intent to kill. Chris readied himself for the clash, but he struggled to get on all-fours. He braced himself for a swift death.
Then, a blast of water blinded Zex’s vision. She backed off of Chris and turned around, wondering where the water came from. Her pupils could have the symbols of flames at the sight of who she saw.
Glodis the Globarbian, the alien creature with tentacles for legs, a red and black shirt, and a jester’s hat with bells. Their blaster dripped with excess water as they let out a devilish grin with their sharpened teeth. Zex fired off a pulse of Hellfire at the Globarbian, sending them against the building wall.
Glodis hit the ground, but tried getting up, clutching their arm in pain. Then, the sound of catchy rhythmic techno music made their tentacles that served as ears wiggle with delight. Their arm suddenly felt like nothing had happened to damage it.
It was all thanks to Lucio, blasting a nice melody to heal them up. Then, the music changed. The beats became quicker, and Glodis could feel their body rushing to keep up with it. They dashed up to Zex and whipped her face with their blaster at a faster pace than ever before.
Tracer blinked in alongside Apothos. They nodded to each other. Apothos spun around with his sword as quickly as he could, creating a tornado of light that encased both Zex and Reaper.
Tracer pulled out a small bomb from behind her back and stuck it to the back of Reaper. She used her Recall ability to send herself back a few seconds before she went into the tornado of light.
With Zex and Reaper out of options and blinded by the light emitted from the twister, the bomb exploded and caused the swirling vortex of luminescence to blind everyone in the area temporarily.
The dust cleared. Zex and Reaper were both laid out on the ground. Moira was about to make a move to get everyone out of the area, but a dart gun pointed at the back of her head courtesy of Aimi made her reconsider. She put her hands up.
Doomfist and a frozen Genji were being taken into custody by Winston and Junker Queen. “You were awesome out there,” Winston commented to the Junker Queen, “Have you ever considered joining Overwatch?”
“Joining? Ha! I’d rather lead!” Junker Queen and Winston both shared a laugh, and even though she was serious, Winston figured it was a joke.
Hammond chirped at Glodis, but the mech translated for him. “The hamster says that you did well, Glodis of Globarb.”
Glodis smiled. “Thank you, Earthling Hammond! You were amazing as well!”
Chris checked on Chrissy. “Are you okay, sis?”
Chrissy nodded and said, “Yeah, I’m good. You too?”
“Yeah.” Chris jumped into Chrissy’s arms for a hug. “Love you, sis.”
Chrissy accepted the hug. “Love you too, bro.”
Tracer walked up to both Chris and Chrissy and cleared her throat, getting their attention. “You two did wonders out there! Is this ‘Zex’ gonna be a problem for ya once you get back home?”
“Oh yeah,” Chris answered, “All the time. But, for now, we should be safe so long as she doesn’t get back up.”
Aimi was next to Mei, letting out a hefty sigh. “That was too close…”
Apothos heartily chuckled and startled Aimi with a pat on the back. “It was a glorious battle! You held your own out there!”
“Thanks, but I didn’t really do anything,” Aimi said, “Aside from putting Genji to sleep, I guess.”
“That made all the difference,” Mei exclaimed, “You timed it just right!”
Hearing these compliments made Aimi smile softly.
Suddenly, Zex opened her eyes. She slowly got to her feet. Nobody around her noticed this at first, so she had to act fast. She targeted Tracer and made a swing at her with her Hellfire Blade.
In a split second, Chris clashed with his Silverwing Quill against Zex’s Hellfire Blade. Tracer jumped out of the way. “Stay down, Zex,” Chris yelled, “It’s over!”
“Oh, you really think so?” Zex pushed her blade against Chris’ hard enough to send him barreling into Chrissy. “On the contrary, fur ball, it’s just begun.” She summoned a rift of Hellfire, calling upon multiple demons and imps from Hell to rain down vengeance upon the group. She knelt down and helped Reaper to his feet. “Get up.”
“Thanks,” he said, “To the ship! Now!”
Reaper threw down a smoke grenade, encasing the group with smoke. Moira, Doomfist, and Genji who broke out of his icy prison, both escaped the clutches of the Overwatch crew and Chris’ friends. Zex and her team made it back to the ship with Reaper behind the wheel. As the ship took off into the air, Chris and company watched in defeat as Zex, Reaper, and everyone else had gotten away.
“Damn,” Tracer said, “Guess we’ll need another plan, eh?”
Glodis nodded. “We should follow the ship!”
“That’s going to take a while,” Winston added, “And they have a head-start on us. For now, we should head back to base. I’ll let Soldier 76 know that we’re on our way and we can come up with another plan from there.”
Chrissy growled. “The chase against Zex isn’t gonna stop, is it?”
“Don’t sweat it,” Lucio said to Chrissy, “With us together as a team, nothing can stop us!”
“Yeah,” Chris continued, “And when we make it back to base and are all ready again, we’ll find Zex, and we’ll stop her and her group once and for all.”
The team looked up into the night sky for a minute or two before heading back to the shuttle, readying their resolve and preparing for the next encounter.
