Work Text:

Her husband, Manny, and her had been together for three years, and married for one before now. Everything had been more than what she was prepared for. Seeing her parents argue, hit each other, and throw things almost on the daily growing up, Camila had been prepared for the worst.

Manny had done above and beyond to prove, he wasn't like her father, and she wasn't like her mother. Bringing home flowers randomly to show how much he loved her, taking her out to countless dinner, and curling up to watch a movie in Spanish, despite him not knowing a lick of it. And, Camila, slowly warmed up to him until she approached the topic, something that lay heavy on her mind.

Many of her classmates had settled down and were starting to have children.

Seeing the countless announcements and bump updates almost on the daily, she began to want her own. A tiny little Many running around and yelling, "Mami" and "Papi."

It had been approaching their second anniversary of their marriage when she prepared. Taking the two days before the day, and the day after, she spent time making a lavish meal, getting her hair done, and cleaning the house from top to bottom. By Manny arrived home from work, the lights had been turned off and candles lit. She sat at the table nervous and apprehensive.

Manny hadn't spoken of wanting children. But, he was amazing with them. Every time he saw his niece and little brother, he lit up, as if a child on Christmas morning after seeing what Santa had brought them.

Taking just long enough to change into something nicer and put his work clothes away, her husband soon joined her at the table. Quietly, they talked about his day, of the upcoming movie they were planning to see, and how ravish the dinner was.

It was all going well as Camila said, "Manny..I want to talk about having kids."

"Do you want to have kids?" Manny had blinked at first before responding, voice soft and warm. "I truthfully never had that cross my mind. With how busy we have been, I never thought of us having children of our own one day."

"I.." Camila sighed, placing her fork down. "It's been on my mind for the last few weeks," she confessed. "Seeing my classmates announce their own and showing updates, it got me realizing I want to have a baby with you."

"You're good with kids," offered her husband, reaching out to grasp her hand. "I see how you are with your Sunday school children. You would be a good mother, Camila."

"As you a good father," added the woman.

"That is two of three parts of this discussion," chuckled Manny. "First the discussion, consent, and the fun part.."

Blushing, Camila nodded. Before, they truly hadn't gone beyond brief touches, both too tired at the end of the day.

"Let's go," she said, almost beaming. "It's our anniversary after all."

Manny stood up, tugging his wife with him. "You are such a dork," he scoffed.

"But I'm your dork." Camila chided back.

"I know you are." Manny started to lead her towards their bedroom in the back. "And hopefully we'll have our own mini dork soon."

It was three months later, after countless lost meals, exhausting days, and raging headaches, that Camila found courage to drive to the nearest pharmacy, gripping the desired object before returning home. Manny had been pulling long hours since their anniversary and wouldn't expected to be home until around seven or eight.

Taking to the bathroom and waiting the impatiently fifteen minutes, Camila quickly received the answer that she was hoping for.  Nearly squealing with glee and calling up Manny, she calmed herself down enough to make a better plan.

She had saw someone on Youtube make a baby themed dinner to tell their girlfriend of their IVF being successful. As them, Camila set to making a wonderful meal. Making a quick run to the next town over, where they had a bigger store, she bought home, baby corn, baby carrots, made baby meatloaf's, and attempted to make a desert that resembled the saying, "bun in the oven".

Just finishing as Manny pulled into the driveway, Camila began to set the table, trying to keep herself busy. She didn't want to give away what the announcement just yet. Manny was bright and perceptive, picking up small things that many didn't notice.

"Cam-" Manny sat his boots and coat beside the door, out of the way. Exhaustion weighed him down, but he perked up at the smell of the evening's meal. "I'm home. What's for dinner."

"It's a surprise-" Camila gestured to the seat. "Please sit, Manny. I have something for you."

Raising an eyebrow at how bubbling his wife was, he took his seat, scanning over the entire spread. Seeing the connecting themes, Manny glanced up, seeing his wife approached with a small box.

"Open it," pleaded the woman, nearly caving in to announce it. "I think you'll like it."

Taking the box and carefully prying the lid off, he was met with a small pair of light yellow baby socks, and a small card that red, "Congrats, you're going to be a Daddy."

"You're pregnant!" Manny sat the things to the side and leaped up, spinning his wife around. "This is amazing, Cam

"Easy," giggled Camila, almost glowing. "You're going to give your baby a concussion or something."

"I'll love them either way," promised the man, bringing his wife closer. "No matter what happens, I will always love and take care of them."
