Work Text:

Annabeth had a list of her favorite things about Percy.

#1. Everything.

#2. How excited he got over the smallest things, things that she wouldn’t have given a second glance to.

It had become their routine for Percy to call out her name and then point out or do something he thought was cool.

--

“Wise Girl look!” and before she could even register what was happening, her Seaweed Brain was fully upside down in a handstand before collapsing onto his back giggling like a madman. She joined him because why wouldn't she, she loved that boy more than life itself.

He did that a lot, reminding her why she loved living so much.

“You’re a dork, you know that?.” She said extending a hand to help pull him up.

--

“Look at that Annabeth.” He whispered breathlessly at the sight of the sun setting.

They had been walking hand and hand along the beach, to just get out and spend time together, enjoying the sea air and the sound of the waves.

“Wow, that’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in a long time.” She admitted.

When she looked back over to Percy, he had that wide mischievous grin on his face. “You want to know what the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen is?” He asked innocently.

“If you say me, Seaweed Brain-”

“Well, somebody's full of herself, how do you know I wasn’t going to say blue jellybeans?”

“Because I know you, Seaweed Brain.” She smiled fondly at him before he cracked.

“Fine… you're the prettiest thing I've ever seen Annabeth, and I mean everything about you.”

At that, she blushed and pecked his lips, “I love you too, Percy.” She had to stop and take a step back to see that stupid huge smile that crossed his face.

Forget the sunset that smile had been the best thing she had seen in all her life.

--

One day while they were walking around the woods at camp looking for a good capture-the-flag strategy Peary stumbled on a bush with a bunch of blooming flowers.

“Look Wise Girl.” He pointed at the bush before walking in circles around it.

“Perccyy! We have to keep looking for a good place to put the flag!” she told him exasperated and annoyed; she didn’t have time for Percy to get distracted by something he thought was cool and, he knew how seriously she took this game.

“But look how pretty they are! I know you are ready to win this game but as Grover would tell you ‘It’s important to appreciate nature and the beauty of it’… so appreciate these flowers with me please?”

He had asked it like a question but a desperate one like he really wanted her to go look at the dumb flowers. So she caved because she always did.

“Okay I'm looking… what did you want me to appreciate? The color, the shape, the smell?”

“The hiding place!” he said excitedly. “The flowers are the same color as the flag! Nobody would notice and probably run right past it. Plus, we won't get in trouble for hiding the flag entirely like the last time because it’s literally out in the open!”

Annabeth smiled proudly at her boyfriend she had been rubbing off on him that was always a good thing.

“Not bad thinking… Seaweed Brain.” She pushed his forehead away with her finger, but he looked proud of himself anyway.

After years of this, she had been so used to it that on Percy’s twenty-fifth birthday when they were at their favorite restaurant and he softly said “Look Annabeth.” The last thing she had been expecting to see when she turned around was the love of her life down on one knee holding a box opened to her.

She had been so surprised that tears filled her eyes and she could barely hear Percy's speech that he undoubtedly spent weeks worried about getting just right. But that didn’t madder because she was so overcome with happiness, she just tackled him to the ground hugging him so tight and repeating the only word that had popped into her head.

Yes!
