Work Text:
Ororo feels the arms around her waist and she closes her eyes, leaning against the body that comes offering comfort, a kiss on her shoulder from those lips that are so familiar. This tenderness would be different in any other moment, just a casual display of affection, now is the only way the other finds to keep her grounded on the present.
“We have work to do, darling” Emma whispers, always the pragmatic even when Ororo can feel she is fighting with everything she has to not let her voice break.
“It’s okay to cry Emma, you don’t have to be unbreakable with me” she caress her arms, moving her head to press it against hers.
“I know…but I would rather not do it, I don’t…” she can’t even find the words to finish her phrase.
They are both hurt, tired and very angry. They worked so hard to build that island, they promised all those souls safety and the humans took it away once more.
“We have work to do, then” Ororo sighs and turns around, taking Emma’s face in her hands, looking into her eyes before sharing a soft kiss.
“Yes…you and me” Emma holds her hands and press them hard, kissing both of them, letting her know she’s there and she always will be.
They are still alive, they are still together, Krakoa is gone but it’s going to be alright somehow.
The world around feels like it’s falling apart, there’s so much that needs to be done, they have people to protect and must be strong for them but at the very least they can be vulnerable with each other.
Peace in an ocean of chaos.
