FSMP God AU

Summary:

What if Epros and Kinaxus had done things a bit differently..?

Notes:

Hi guys! It's been a long time, but I am here with something I've working on for a while- the fabled (pun-intended) god au! I don't feel like I can write a story about this because a lot of it is based on the current arc in the canon of FSMP, which hasn't been concluded yet. However, I can give you all my little brain thoughts. Enjoy!

Chapter 1: Basic Worldbuilding

Chapter Text

- In this AU, the Primordials did not create the major gods; instead, they created the realms and the mortals themselves before eventually deciding to add gods

- Order of Ascension: Will, Arisanna, Momboo, Ocie, Caspian, Ulysses, Aax, Wanda, Terry, Jerry, Chaos, Oscar, Galahad, Ven, Wolf, Addie, Athena, Jamie, Easton, Haley, Rae, Seven, Icarus, Centross

- The major gods of this world are not siblings; Alerion was one of the early Overworlders before dying of old age; Fable, Enderian, and Netherum were the first mortals to create large governments and kingdoms (besides the Telchin, the first and most ancient advanced civilization)

- When the kingdoms first formed, before any of the kids were born, there was war between the Overworld and the End + Nether; it ended in a truce

- The Fable-Enderian-Isla drama ended with Isla leaving Icarus with Fable and taking Rae with her to the End to live with Enderian

- Epros choose to live in the End first, rather than switching from the Aether; Kinaxus still chose the Nether

- The Corruption Arc ™ never happened, but the season 2 and 3 arcs did (I couldn’t figure out how to fit Ominous Bane into this tbh)

- Each of the gods listed here have their own mural except Centross, who, in this AU, ascended too recently to have any kind of worship

Chapter 2: Icarus: Deity of Connection

Chapter Text

- Powers: flight (wings; they had this power before ascension bc elytra, but when they became a god their wings became real), portal creation/control, “The Wack” (if you count this as a power and not a curse) (sometimes they’re the one controlling it, sometimes it’s Quixis, it depends), limited access to the Worldport

- Prayed to: for safety while traveling between realms, including the realm of death; by travelers, traders, diplomats, and mourners

  • People also often pray to the Primordials to undo the “curse” done to the prince, and for the prince’s general health and safety
  • Fable has now mandated that Icarus’ name by included in funeral rites, because they are “the connection between realms, so they will ensure people’s safe passage into the realm of the dead” (when really, that’s Will’s job) (see his chapter)

- Patron of the Gilded Kingdom and Alchemists

- 23rd to ascend, 10th Overworld god

- Died in a ritual performed by Fable in an attempt to harness Quixis’s power (Centross didn’t get there in time); Quixis tried to transform them into a Quixis and bring them into the Worldport, but Fable pulled them back, leaving them a half-deity

- Originally known as the Alchemist Prince, Heir to the Gilded Kingdom, known for their alchemical research and for having a strange curse they call the “Wack”

  • Alchemy shops, potion bottles, etc have a lot of bird imagery associated with them out of respect to the one who brought alchemy into the kingdom (Athena introduced them to the practice of alchemy, but they expanded on it using Overworld ingredients and figured out WHY potions work the way they do, turning it into the FSMP potion system we all know and love :3)

- Icarus is now considered to be the guardian of portals and all other connections between the realms

  • Most of the portals in the Gilded Kingdom have been inscribed with bird imagery now (though they have also been closed due to the war, and only opened when one side or the other gets through and attacks)

- Birds were already a powerful symbol associated with royalty, but now they are also associated with divinity and seen as good or bad omens depending on the context

  • Same goes for alchemy as well; it is now common for alchemists to say a prayer to or for their prince while brewing potions

- The public does not how Icarus actually died, so Fable blamed assassins from the End and declared war once again

- Icarus is not technically a god, but Fable calls them one and has a temple built in their honor

- Fable is still on his “ending death” arc in this AU, and has made a deal with Icarus, promising to return Centross (who still died) to life in exchange for their cooperation

  • In this AU, however, his motive is driven by jealousy of the gods' immortality, while the Primordials allow some to live forever and others to die; this is originally why he started a war against the Nether and End, not bc of Alerion's death (they are not related in this AU, Fable barely knows Alerion), but bc the Nether and End have Primordials in them

- Since their ascension the “Wack” has gotten significantly worse, to the point that Fable has hidden them away in their new temple and prevented everyone but him, Ven, and eventually Ari from seeing them

  • Due to this, Icarus now knows almost nothing about anything going on; They vaguely know of the war, and Fable brings them the offerings people leave at their temple, but that’s about it
  • Fable essentially speaks on their behalf now (not always with their permission…)
  • The only people Icarus ever sees are Fable, Ven, Ari and Easton; Easton sneaks in to see them; at least, they did before Momboo…

- Fable originally built a massive golden temple that was wacked to be quartz with pillars and strange colored lights… it kind of looks like a second Worldport; the front is open concept with an altar for people to leave offerings of gold, potions, potion ingredients, pretty feathers, and flowers (including orchids, but those often do not make it past Fable, who relays the offerings to Icarus); the back is Icarus’s living quarters, complete with an alchemy lab; the back is locked, and only Fable knows the passcode, not even Icarus… except for Easton, who can literally control architecture and sneaks in to keep Icarus company because screw the government

- Many consider Icarus as a mysterious figure protecting the realms from afar; many others consider Icarus to be a poor cursed soul that their father must keep from accidentally harming the kingdom; either way, the people of the Gilded Kingdom miss the lively young prince they all knew and loved

Chapter 3: Venear: Deity of Writing/the Written Word

Chapter Text

- Powers: transmission magic (sending messages), altering what’s already written, divine inspiration (typically only with authors/reporters), enchantment

- Prayed to: for inspiration and success in sharing written works, as well as safety while doing reporter-related work in dangerous situations; by authors, reporters, and anyone whose life is closely tied to writing

- Patron of Authors and Reporters

- 14th to ascend, 6th Overworld god

- Originally Fable’s most loyal/trusted reporter (and spy) in the first war, but they retired when they ascended

- Died being killed while spying on the Nether (which is why they are so willing to help Fable kill Nether gods later, like Aurelius); Fable sent them into into a death trap bc they knew too much, but they ascended instead; hid in a cottage in the woods with Fengari after ascending

- Ven hated people seeking him out for divine inspiration, so they lied and said that tarot cards could be used as a vessel for his power, as well as cornflowers (his lover’s favorite)

  • Cornflowers are now carried by reporters into dangerous situations to give them protection
  • Cornflowers are also often drawn onto the margins of important documents/novels/manuscripts/etc
  • Tarot cards are now used by writers/reporters before doing anything related to their craft
  • Cats in the Overworld are now considered akin to muses (symbolically speaking) because those that visited Ven for help noticed that he owned a cat

- They considered becoming a more public god just to promote Feng, but Feng agreed to keep their relationship (and Ven’s location) a secret so that Ven could be left alone (and kept away from Fable...)

- During their time away from Fable, they met Ocie and, through her, a few others (including Chaos, Centross, Wolf, Rae, etc); Ven and Ocie became particularly close

- When Feng got sick and died, Fable offered to bring him back if Ven returned to his service... Ven agreed

- Before ascending, they are the one who invented the enchanter by figuring out the enchantment language/symbols (which is part of why they were chosen to ascend); now, as a god, they often hear and see the enchantment particles/symbols and hear them speak; this is how they magically send messages; they can also create/give away enchanted items without the need for an enchanter (as most gods can, but they can create their own enchantments to make said items do basically whatever they want, with some limitations)

  • Any ideas for how the different enchantments came about in this world? Bc not all of them came from Ven, as you will see in later chapters ;)

- No official temple since returning to the public eye, but their employees (aka fellow reporters, scribes, and spies) consider themselves as his disciples and practically worship him

  • Cornflowers are often left for him at his office, quarters, etc; Ven has to try very hard not to tell them off or cry at the reminder of his fiance
  • A memorial to Feng (a small one, but still) has now been built both in the kingdom’s cemetery and in the wing of the castle where Ven lives; Feng is now an honored member of society, especially by the writing community
  • Originally, Ven was “worshiped” through individual prayer and using tarot cards, enchanters, and other things to channel Ven’s divine inspiration; after coming back into Fable’s service, he received a small altar within the castle for Ven’s employees; it is a simple stone altar covered with flowers (specifically tulips and cornflowers) with a basin of water for people to wash their face and hands and receive divine inspiration (Ven is very connected to water; the river where they used to live, being friends with the ocean, etc); offerings are left at the base of the altar, typically flowers or small trinkets, like decorated feather pens and the like

- Viewed by the people the way that the muses were viewed by the Greeks

Chapter 4: Momboo/Strawberry: Goddess of the World

Chapter Text

- Powers: chlorokinesis (plant control), botanical communication (talking to plants), atmokinesis (weather control) (including manipulation of most natural disasters), proficiency with animals, earth mimicry (can become one with the world at will)

- Prayed to: for safety from natural disasters, the safety of travelers, good weather, and bountiful harvest; by the people of the Gilded Kingdom, especially farmers, and some villagers outside of the GK who have actually heard of her

- Patron of the Natural World and Lost Travelers

  • Her forest is known as “The Sacred Grove”; she is known as Strawberry by the public and Momboo by her friends and kids

- 3rd to ascend, 1st Overworld god

- Originally an amnesiac found in the woods and taken in by a village; met Caspian the same way as canon

- Died the same as canon except instead of getting reset she ascended

- After being unable to find Caspian, she ran into the woods and stayed there, finding company in the plants and animals, including two gay cows and a strange baby bear

- Eventually found Easton (same as canon) and adopted them; later on, Momboo would kiss the bear and accidentally gave it sentience

- She planted a tree to commemorate the day Jamie became sentient, the day her family became complete; it is now the tallest tree in the world and the center of both her and her forest’s power

- Fable would eventually seek her out as an ally, and Momboo hesitantly agreed

  • Momboo promised to give bountiful harvests and control Jamie’s aggression (more on that in Jamie’s section) in exchange for Fable's protection of nature (less deforestation/city expansion/etc) and of her forest
  • She ended up meeting and dating Icarus for a bit before amicably breaking up and parting ways as friends (tho the last part ended when the second war started...)

- Since allying with Fable she has been recognized as a god by the general public and has therefore received worship

- It is now a common practice for farmers in the Gilded Kingdom to include flower gardens in their farms (especially pink to tulips) as they are said to bring good harvest; this practice has been spreading to other villages as well

- Momboo had never had a temple before getting involved with Fable because very few people knew she was a god; Fable created a temple made of stone and covered in greenery; it has a replica of the Tree ™ and is located at the border between the Gilded Kingdom and the Sacred Grove; the temple is covered in moss, moss carpets, flowers, spore blossoms, vines, etc; glow berries and natural light pouring in from the skylight and the entrance (doesn’t have a door) are the only light sources; it's architectural style is based on Greek temples; offerings normally consist of flowers, food, and drink

- For a long time she was not very well known; people were not even sure she was a goddess; she was more so viewed akin to a benevolent wood nymph who would sometimes help injured or lost travelers (like Haley, for instance); since Fable made her well-known, she is now seen as a Mother Nature-like figure, typically kind and nurturing (tho there are some who fear the amount of power she holds...)

Chapter 5: Jamie: Deity of Nature

Summary:

This one was a bit of a struggle. I couldn't make Jamie "God of the Wild/Wilderness/Creatures" because those titles were taken by Delta and I didn't want any repeats... however, Jamie has always had a connection to nature as a whole, not just animals. The Tree TM was planted in their name, their mom is literally the world, they have an entire flower motif along with Athena, and in canon they can even control plants now. So I decided to take some creative liberties. Hope you guys like what I came up with!

Chapter Text

- Powers: animal communication, proficiency with plants, polymorphing (shape-shifting into different animals)

- Prayed to: for permission to expand human society and take resources from nature, as well as protection for their livestock; by farmers, lumberjacks, and anyone wanting to take territory/resources from nature (ex. construction workers)

- Patron of the Animals and the Forests

- 18th to ascend, 8th Overworld god

- Originally a baby bear belonging to Delta, owner of the Gilded Kingdom's largest and only animal sanctuary

  • Delta tried to stop Fable from killing the last Ender Dragon (which he considered to be a weapon) by warning Enderian of his upcoming attack and was discreetly killed for his treachery
  • Later on, Jamie will find the last dragon egg that Delta managed to save (Eiji)

- Eventually found their way to Momboo, who adopted them along with her other animals

- Jamie became a protector of Momboo’s forest from the humans for several years before the humans managed to kill them

- When they ascended, the Primordials gifted them with sentience, followed by Momboo adopting them as their actual child alongside Easton (who is still mortal at the time)

- Flowers are left at the edge of a natural territory that the humans want; if the flowers are gone the next day, you have permission to build on the land; if the flowers are shredded, you will be attacked if you take that territory; sunflowers and pink tulips typically lead to the most success

- Bears are often carved into barns and fences to protect their livestock; bears are considered a sign of protectiveness, aggression, and nature as whole; bears are considered the "kings of the forests/animals", like how lions are viewed in our world

- Momboo made a deal with Fable to ally herself and her children with him in exchange for his help in preserving nature

- Jamie shares Momboo’s temple, sort of like Demeter and Persephone; that’s why there are so many creatures living in and around the temple, even though Jamie themselves does not live there; a replica of the Tree ™ is in the center and there are two statues on the east and western wall, one for both of them, with small alcoves underneath for offerings to be left

  • Any animal within the temples grounds may not be killed
  • Offerings for Jamie typically consist of flowers, honey-related items, and food; some dumb people tried animal sacrifices at one point... they didn't try that again

- Before Fable, they were seen as a dangerous and territorial god who needed to be placated, kind of like Poseidon; after Fable, Jamie is jointly worshiped with Momboo in a similar way as Demeter and Persephone, as in they shared the temple/offerings/etc and Jamie is more known as Momboo’s kid than anything else; however, they are still a respected and feared god in their own right, but is now less feared and worshiped similarly to how Pan was worshiped by the Greeks

Chapter 6: Easton: Deity of Construction

Chapter Text

- Powers: magical construction (aka creative mode + Hogwarts)

- Prayed to: for success and safety in construction/building and for academic success; by architects, construction workers, students, and teachers

Patron of Scholars and Architects

- 19th to ascend, 9th Overworld god

- Originally an orphan raised by Momboo who moved out and founded the first college to ever exist in any of the realms

- Died by falling off of scaffolding while completing the finishing touches of their University

- They came back and revealed themselves as a god right as Icarus and Fable were opening the University on their behalf

  • That’s how Icarus and Easton became friends
  • Fable had already renamed the place the Fable University, and Easton decided to go with it
  • Fable hired Easton on the spot as a freelance architect

- Rae would eventually end up blinding Easton as the Warden, then giving Easton the “gift of skulk” that they would use as a mobility device

- Their relationship with Fable is a strange one; they are one of his most dependable godly allies, even more so than the rest of their family, and they are a big reason his kingdom is so prosperous and known for its education, architecture, and beauty; however, they also continuously call him out on his bs and refuse to treat him like royalty instead of just another client (they also secretly disobey him by visiting his son when their not supposed to, but Fable doesn’t know that…)

- Easton is associated with a lot of fox imagery (remember how they had a pet fox as a kid in the canon fic, which is the REASON THEY MET MOMBOO?!); also cats, bc they have a lot of them (same as canon); foxes and cats are considered mischievous creatures, but generally good natured/good luck if you earn their favor (especially cats, which are, bc of Ven, considered to be muses that can grant inspiration to writers of all kinds) (most of Easton's students may have cats bc of this)

- The University sort of acts like Hogwarts in that Easton can make the building do whatever they want (moving staircases, customizing rooms, etc)

- The University is their “temple” and tuition payments are their “offerings”

- They are not necessarily worshiped but more so treated like Merlin in Camelot; aka a powerful magician that is unpredictable but generally considered benevolent and worthy of deep respect; they also have a reputation for being mischievous and unpredictable, but not in a bad way, sort of like Hermes

  • Plus, they act WAY too chill for people to worship them without it becoming extremely awkward

Chapter 7: Addie: Deity of Concealment

Summary:

I tried a lot of things before finalizing Addie's role- invisibility, stealth, caves, etc. Eventually I decided on concealment because I felt it was broad enough to cover all of the above. I also was able to give them a pretty significant role in this AU and do a lot of things with them that I think are really cool. Hope you enjoy! Next, we're moving on to ocean gods!

Chapter Text

- Powers: invisibility, climbing walls, creating webs, super leap (can jump up to 70 feet), enhanced motion detection/vision, animal communication and summoning (only with spiders), concealing people/places/things

- Prayed to: for safety in caves, safety from spiders, and success in mining; by miners, runaways, and anyone seeking refuge, especially the Mysons

- Patron of Cave Dwellers, Miners, and Runaways

  • “Cave dwellers” includes the Mysons, who consider Addie as their patron god

- 16th to ascend, 7th Overworld god

- Died in a cave-in underground

- Originally a librarian who noticed that a lot of books and texts were being altered by Fable/Ven/etc and began hiding certain books in an underground library

  • They always allowed spiders to make their home in the library because they were the only one who knew about it and they liked spiders
  • Fable found out and destroyed the library, causing it to cave in and kill Addie, but not before Fable got quite a few spider bites in the process

- After ascending, Addie continued their mission and built a new library at the heart of the cave systems of the Overworld, one that could never be found

- Addie is friends with Aax because they met in the cave systems; they are friends with Haley because the massive library caught her attention; they are friends with Neveah for reasons listed below

- Addie’s godly form is based on the zebra jumping spider because I think (not entirely sure) that this is what cc!Addie based their character off of (according to the cast qna in the discord); a lot of their powers and behaviors come from the zebra spider, which can jump up to 14 times their body length, is the spider species with the best vision, doesn’t live in a web (but can still make one), and lives alone

- Addie often explores the cave systems and observes people, to the point that people have discovered that they are a deity and began worshiping them

  • If miners leave journals/notebooks/novels/etc in the caves, they will have better luck in finding resources (sometimes being led to them by spiders)
  • Spiders are considered good luck by those within their patronage, so killing spiders is a HUGE taboo
  • Addie has been spotted and quietly helped the Mysons so many times that Addie is now the only deity they “worship”
  • In this world, the Mysons are people who wanted to escape government and authority rather than war, and they were founded much, much earlier
  • Naveah was the only one who has actually managed to speak to Addie and get them to tell her their story; ever since then, she has sent Mysons to collect more books for Addie before Fable can get to them

- While miners do leave offerings in the caves, Addie has no official place of worship except for with the Mysons; while the Mysons are typically against godly worship and any other form of authority, they make an exception for Addie and Addie alone; they built small altars at the entrances of their city, simple stone ones decorated with mushrooms, web-like designs, and carvings of spiders; there is always a bookshelf where Mysons can leave the books they find as offerings, as well as letters and prayers; cobwebs appearing around the altars are considered a sign that Addie has visited and/or accepted the offerings

- They are seen as a mysterious, reclusive, and powerful deity, but also very benevolent and typically quite helpful as long as you don’t provoke them; they are also not very well known by those outside of their patronage

Chapter 8: Oceana: Goddess of the Sea

Summary:

Time for ocean gods! I couldn't really think of a backstory or parents for Ocie, because in this AU she starts off as a mortal, so I was kinda vague about it. It's not really important to the story tho, so it's aight :)

Chapter Text

- Powers: water mimicry (turning into water), hydrokinesis (water control), animal communication (sea creatures only), aquatic respiration (breathing underwater), atmokinesis (weather control) (only ocean-related weather [coastal storms, hurricanes, etc])

- Prayed to: for safety from ocean-related natural disasters, safety while sailing, and the general well being of the Telchin society; by coastal-dwelling peoples and the Telchin

- Patron of Sea Life, the Telchin, and (unofficially) Pirates

- 4th to ascend, 2nd Overworld god, 1st ocean god

- Died drowning alongside Shawn

  • She is very bitter towards the Primordials (and the world in general) because she ascended and Shawn didn’t

- Originally swimmer and sailor, orphaned along with her older sister, Momboo

  • Momboo went missing (because she lost her memories) and Ocie went to go look for her, running into Rust, Shawn, and Jerry
  • Shawn and Ocie got separated from Rust and Jerry
  • When Ocie and Shawn got attacked by mobs, Ocie grabbed Shawn and dove into the ocean off of a cliff, hoping they could make it to shore before the waves overtook them… they didn’t

- Typically keeps to herself, though she is particularly fond of a certain mortal couple, a pirate named Casus and a fisherman named Vorago, as they are some of the only non-Telchins that do not view her as dangerous

- When she becomes the ocean, she loses track of time and partially loses consciousness, so it’s hard to get her attention

- Schools of fish are her symbol and omen, and they act on her behalf

- The Ocean Monuments were all built for Ocie instead of Vorago, with a statue of her in the center (like the statues of Vorago and the others in canon); basically, the temples are the same as in canon except they are dedicated to Ocie; the offerings, however, are very different than in canon, usually consisting of food and drink rather than valuables (fish and alcohol are the most favorable offerings, which is part of why brewing alcohol is a large part of Telchin culture and trade)

  • Hearts of the Sea have the same story as in canon except that they are seen as much more sacred than in canon because the Telchin are actually aware of where they come from; all priests and priestesses have one, and lovers give them to each other as a sign of eternal love
  • There is a temple in the capital called “The Heart of the Sea” that is considered the most powerful temple; hearts of the sea and other magical items are used in this temple to create a focal point that makes it easier for Ocie to switch from person to ocean and vice versa
  • Small fish are considered to be her messengers and cohorts, and are therefore sacred; they are carved into almost everything
  • Dolphins are considered an unlucky animal because Ocie said they were annoying; they’re kind of like the foxes of the sea, considered to be wily pranksters who will lead you to treasure if you feed them but are ultimately not to be trusted

- In all of her temples, on land and sea, she is depicted with a trident

- There is at least one temple in every coastal town, typically near the docks; they are also used as safehouses in bad weather (floods, hurricanes, etc); they are made from sandstone (like the desert temples, but on the coast); they are much smaller than the Telchin temples, consisting of an singular statue surrounded by water, as well as an alcove for offerings; offerings are also much more varied because the land-dwellers are less familiar with her and do not know her preferences

  • None of the coastal people have actually seen Ocie, so she is typically represented as a shark or a lady with a shark-themed cloak
  • Known to somewhat support pirates (because Casus… and because it’s funny)

- Telchins view Oceana as “The Ocean Mother”, an all-encompassing Mother Nature-like being; she is their home, their shelter and protection, the source of everything they have; she is seen as benevolent and nurturing, yet brutal if crossed; she is also seen as somewhat inattentive because it is known to be difficult to get her attention or have your prayers answered

- The mortals of the coast view Ocie similarly to how the Greeks viewed Poseidon: a dangerous and temperamental god that must be placated

Chapter 9: Aax: Deity of Combat

Summary:

I'm back! It's been a crazy week, but I'm here with the olm lad! Enjoy, cause I had fun with this one (3

Chapter Text

- Powers: water breathing, sensing movement through electromagnetic signals, enhanced strength/speed/hearing, regeneration, communication with cave echoes (chat), suction (can force their prey towards them in the water) (it’s something axolotls can do)

- Prayed to: for success in battle/fishing by the land-dwellers and for forgiveness/protection from the drowned by the Telchin

- Patron of Axolotls/Olms, Warriors, and Fishermen

  • Also known as "Bane to the Undead"

- 7th to ascend, 4th Overworld god, 3rd ocean god

- Died escaping the Telchin experiment facility

- Originally had the same backstory as in canon, except they died fighting the Telchin to let the other experiments escape, after Ulysses ran to distract the guards

- Considered to be an ocean god and a land god, but not considered loyal to either; will turn the tide in battle for whatever side they deem worthy/most just

- The Telchin labs were created to help with the drowned, but the drowned were a natural occurrence from the start instead of being caused by Len in the war; they therefore had more time and built their own underground facilities instead of using the temples; most of the Telchin society was actually underground in underwater caves for a long time

- After ascension, Aax hid in the caves along the coast for many fours…

- Eventually they ran into Ocie and told her their story; Ocie then shut down all experimental facilities, with Aax destroying any who resisted; the two became best friends

- They know their name was Proteus, a more “godly” name, but they chose the name Aax to regain their personhood and independence

- Ocie convinced them to leave their cave a bit more, which caused them to intervene in battles, become more known as a god, and therefore have more worship

- Aax proceeded to slaughter most of the drowned; that, combined with Ulysses medical talents, has resulted in the drowned being significantly less of a problem and Telchin society has since then moved from the caves back to the ocean floor

- Ocie commanded that her temples on both land and sea build statues for and jointly worship Aax, sort of like how, in canon, the Ocean Monuments were built for Casus, Vorago, and Len

  • Undead sacrifices, especially their flesh, are typically the most successful
  • Any major Telchin medical facility has a small altar, typically in the form of an axolotl tank, to appease Aax; otherwise, it will likely be destroyed
  • Axolotls are considered sacred and a good omen; killing axolotls is considered VERY taboo, especially for the Telchin
  • The command to alter the temples was the first time the people of the coast had ever actually seen Ocie, so it was considered a huge deal; dozens of new temples were built for both Ocie and Aax, to the point where it would, years later, catch Fable’s attention, causing him to build a massive temple for Aax specifically in the Gilded Kingdom (after all, who wouldn’t want the god of combat’s favor…)
  • Any temple made specifically for Aax will often be underground, especially in lush caves, because people noticed that offerings were more likely to be accepted
  •  Lush caves in general, temple or not, are considered places of power and sometimes used as training grounds for the army

- Axolotls are carved onto navy ships, fishing rods, and sometimes axes

- Light sensitivity and the urges (killing the undead) unfortunately carried over when they ascended

- In Telchin temples, Aax is depicted holding an axe because a lot of emphasis is placed on their role as a warrior; in land temples, they are portrayed with a fishing rod because, while they are still known as the deity of combat, their role as patron of fishermen is more applicable in day-to-day life for the land-dwellers; sometimes they have both, duel wielding or one strapped to their back or side

- If you catch an axolotl while fishing and then release it, you are said to have good fortune while fishing and in general

- Aax created the enchantments of lure and luck of the sea by blessing certain fishing rods and giving them to mortals, who found a way to reverse engineer the enchantments; this is why they are considered a patron of fishermen

  • There is debate among fishermen about using rods vs nets; some argue that nets are more efficient, others claim that the traditional use of fishing rods is more likely to bring success because it is preferred by the gods

- Aax stays hidden in the coastal caves but can be called upon for aid in battle if you can find them

- They can hear “cave echoes”, strange spirits that gather information and speak to them in the caves

- They were the only person to be able to find Addie because of both their godhood and their connection to caves; they became friends and Addie actually helped conceal Aax’s cave so people would stop bothering them as much

- The Telchin see Aax as a vengeful reminder of past mistakes, an angry god to be placated for the sake of their people, but a potential aid if you can prove yourself worthy; they are a bit of a bogeyman, a deity they fear and try to keep at bay; inversely, they are somewhat of a protector because they are constantly killing the drowned

- The land-dwellers see Aax similarly to how the Greeks viewed Nike; if you can win their favor, you will have victory in battle; if not, your defeat is inevitable (which is why Fable tries increasingly hard to win their favor…);

  • Note that Aax does not have any sway over victory or luck, it's just a misconception from mortals because whatever side they support typically wins

Chapter 10: Ulysses: God of Medicine

Summary:

Fish man times >:)

Chapter Text

- Powers: magical healing (only goes so far though), aquatic respiration (breathing underwater) (not really a power for a Telchin but still), controlling/summoning guardians, minor chlorokinesis (specifically ocean plants, especially kelp)

- Prayed to: for good health, bountiful harvest, and to be successful in performing medical treatment; by doctors, patients, and kelp farmers

- Patron of Doctors, the Sick, and the Telchin

- 6th to ascend, 3rd Overworld god, 2nd ocean god

- Died after distracting the guards to let Aax escape; was immediately killed, instead of tortured and left to die

- Originally a kelp farmer whose fiance died to the drowned; he then joined the Telchin labs and helped with all the same experiments as canon minus Vorago until creating/meeting Aax

- After he was killed and ascended, he was immediately captured and basically took Vorago's place, being experimented on to the point of being somewhat unrecognizable and losing at least some memories in the process; this is why Aax and Ulysses do not recognize each other

- Once Ocie and Aax take down all of the facilities, they find Ulysses and free him, and he becomes the god/leader of the Telchin after recovering; he vaguely remembers his time as a Telchin scientist, and Aax and Ocie distrust him for it, but they are at a truce currently (he also negotiated a truce on behalf of the Telchin, which is how he become... not their governmental leader, but their godly leader; he had no interest in being a part of a governmental body)

- As a god, he can now prevent infection from the drowned, but cannot cure them; Ocie and Aax have forbidden him from experimentation to find a cure, which he accepted (slightly reluctantly) as part of the truce

- Ulysses typically stays with the Telchin unless specifically called upon by land-dwellers for help

- Kelp is considered sacred, like how many plants are considered sacred and tied to specific gods in Hinduism; Kelp-farming is considered a highly honored career along distillers (making alcohol), doctors, and

- Alcoholic beverages are considered to be sacred and a way to promote good health because Ulysses is partially known for his brewing skills; this combined with Ocie's known love of alcohol makes brewing/wine-making/etc essentially THE most important and sacred part of the Telchin's culture and economy; Telchin alcohol is highly sought after by land-dwellers due to both its unique taste (not a lot of wheat is used so its a bit different land alcohol) and the belief that it's good for your health

  • This is actually a misconception that Ulysses consistently tries to correct; while alcohol itself has medicinal uses, alcoholic drinks only promotes your health if Ulysses himself blesses it

- He has very few actual temples because he tends to be very humble and dismissive of his own godhood

  • His only real temple is a hospital where the most serious cases are sent; he spends most of his time here working directly with mortal doctors who others view as his “disciples”; the disciples themselves often forget that he is a god
  • There is, however, an altar to him in almost every medical facility, both on land and in the ocean
  • In this ocean his temple/altars are made of prismarine and stone; on land its stone, sandstone, and copper
  • The land-dwellers are actually the ones that worship and build temples for him because it is harder for them to get his attention; offerings of alcohol and kelp-related foods are known to be the most likely to be accepted
  • The coast typically has the best medical facilities because of his influence; it is unclear whether or not the coastal facilities are the best because of Ulysses or because the land-dwellers build their best hospitals on the coast to try and gain his favor

- Ulysses is actually one of the most beloved gods by the Telchin because for a long time he was one of the only gods to spend much time among mortals and directly help them

- Those on land see him as a mysterious and distant yet benevolent god; the only thing they really know about him is his healing powers

  • Fable actually has his eye on him and wants him as an ally but doesn’t quite know how to balance having both Aax and Ulysses as allies without starting a fight

Chapter 11: Jericho: God of Sailing

Summary:

Our fav NPC gets to be a god! Which is funny considering he hates gods... but then again so does everyone else tbh

Also, sorry this took so long. College is wild :(

Enjoy!

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

- Powers: magic ship (indestructible, can change size/shape/model, auto-pilot), can generate and fire cannon balls by himself

- Prayed to: for safety while sailing, protection from pirates, the safe return of their loved ones at sea, to pacify Ocie; by sailors and their loved ones

- Patron of Sailors, Those Lost at Sea, and Creepers

- 10th to ascend, 5th Overworld god, 4th ocean god

- Died in a shipwreck

- Originally a guard who quit after meeting Ocie/Rust/Shawn; he and Rust got separated from Ocie and Shawn; then he got separated Rust; he sailed for years to try and find any of them (especially Ocie) and eventually got shipwrecked, died, and ascended

- Creeper heads are carved into ships cargo boxes, depicted on sails, etc

- Killing a creeper if you’re a sailor is a REALLY bad idea

- Creepers/creeper hybrids are considered to be good sailors

- Hired by Fable as commander of the navy in the first war before quitting after Wolf died (Fable’s only successful attempt to gain favor with an ocean god thus far, even if it wasn’t successful for long)

- He is almost always on his ship and rarely ever comes on land, especially once he found Ocie; he spends most of his time either with Ocie, relaxing on his ship, searching for people lost at sea, or keeping an eye on other ships and ensuring their safety

- Jerry loves cats and often has one or two on his boat; cats are considered good luck on ships because of this

- Typically, small altars/temples are built at docks and ports for sailors to pray before leaving and their loved ones to pray for them until they returned; it’s considered bad luck if no one prays for you

  • On bigger ships, there are often small altars on the ship itself, typically in the captain’s quarters
  • Simple wooden altars are built on ships, engraved with creeper heads and included with a small alcove for offerings to be left, typically a portion of whatever cargo the ship is carrying
  • Small wooden cabins at the docks are his temples, typically simply decorated and including an altar for people to pray and give offerings
  • Loved ones of sailors sometimes leave offerings of sentimental objects related to the sailor they are praying for (jewelry they own, their favorite food, etc); other times they would leave jewelry or other objects with creeper heads engraved onto them
  • The sailors themselves sometimes leave things at the altar, then pray to Jerry that they may return to retrieve the object later
  • These temples also include missing posters for those lost at sea, so that Jerry will know who to look for

- Almost entirely unknown by the Telchin because he cannot go underwater

- Seen by the land-dwellers as a friendly, kind, and generous god; as long as you got his attention (and didn’t kill any creepers) he will probably help you; some of them were thrilled that Fable hired him to be a protector of the kingdom; others did not like that the peaceful god would now be working in the army (not that they would dare say that outloud…); they also had mixed feelings on Jerry leaving Fable’s service

Notes:

We are finally done with the Overworld gods :)
Next are the Nether Gods >:3 Tehe

Chapter 12: Athena: Deity of Warmth

Summary:

Time for Nether Gods! This is gonna be fun (3

Chapter Text

- Powers: pyrokinesis (fire control), Blessing of Warmth (allows Nether creatures to enter other dimensions without dying from the cold), cat army (you’ll see :3 )

- Prayed to: for protection and aide, the Blessing of Warmth, and to give thanks; by all the peoples of the Nether, including immigrants

- Patron of the Nether and Engineers

- 17th to ascend, 5th Nether god

- Died in a snowstorm

  • Got lost in the Overworld while on a diplomacy mission during winter; when the snowstorm started, Athena found shelter in a cave alongside a colony of cats; started a fire to keep them all warm but it wasn’t enough and Athena died
  • The cats ascended with them and now Athena has a magical cat army that they can communicate with, use to send messages, and even use in battle (includes Cheshire, Not Rae, etc) (basically all the cats they've ever had in canon)

- Originally the prince of the Nether; became king after parents went missing; the first member of a royal family to become a god, which caused some controversy among the mortals

- Has been friends with both Rae and Icarus separately for many years due to diplomacy meetings, even though the brothers resent each other; the three of them have almost never been in the same room (until later on at least)

  • Rae taught them redstone, and they taught Icarus alchemy; Athena brought engineering into the Nether, and Icarus brought alchemy into the Overworld
  • Athena discovered how to use quartz in observers/comparators/etc (anything using quartz), drastically increasing the effectiveness of redstone machines; they then told Rae and Icarus, who shared this info with their respective realms
  • Athena died and ascended when Icarus and Rae were very young; that’s why Athena is younger than them mentally (being about 17 when they died) but is actually older

- Soul died due to a Wither poison given to both her and Athena (no one knows who did it); Athena survived because they were already a god at this point but Soul did not; weeks later, Netherum went missing and Athena took the throne

- Athena can give the Blessing of Warmth, meaning that they can give Netherians the ability to cross into other dimensions without dying from the cold

  • This has caused a significant increase in immigration and trade; Overworld resources such as flowers, tools, and food are much more common in the Nether than in canon

- Some Netherians complain that piglins are favorited… they may have a point; both Athena and Netherum are part piglin in this AU

- Cats are a sacred animal, as well as a highly coveted pet

- There are many temples throughout the Nether, the oldest of which being built by their parents

  • Athena’s temples are widely varied among the different cultures and architectural styles within the Nether
  • The older ones, built at their parents’ request when they first ascended, take quite a bit of inspiration from the Overworld, more specifically the Gilded Kingdom; as that is where they ascended; they are basically gardens filled to the brim with Overworld and Nether plants, and have a greek architectural style, which I have decided is the style of the architecture in the Gilded Kingdom in this AU
  • Newer temples, built by the Netherian peoples, tend to be more varied and lean into each society’s culture and architecture
  • Offerings typically consist of gold, flowers, and food; merchants and nobles often include offerings of redstone and other engineering materials from the Overworld
  • Alliums are known to be Athena’s favorite; they are not considered sacred but they are a popular offering
  • Athena feels weird being worshiped but recognizes the importance of respecting tradition and being able to answer prayers

- They were the first god to be royalty in the Nether, so it took a bit for people to WARM up to them (pun intended); however, once the Netherians got used to them, they are seen as a benevolent and friendly god, prince, and now king

  • They are not seen as equal to mortals per say, but Netherians do not typically idolize their gods as much as the other realms do, seeing them as more powerful authority figures rather than divine beings; offerings are more so a sign of respect and a thank you for the work they do rather than traditional “worship”

Chapter 13: Galahad: God of Knighthood

Summary:

Blaze boy go brrrr :)

Chapter Text

- Powers: fireball projection (like a normal blaze but significantly more powerful), blaze rod shield, magic (aka OP) armor and sword, granting strength/resistance/etc to others

-Prayed to: by all Netherians for protection, by all knights for success in battle, and by all potential knight candidates for the chance to become a knight

- Patron of Knights, Warriors/Protectors, and the Netherian Armies

- 13th to ascend, 4th Nether god

- Died in battle avenging Nexus

- Originally a Nexai knight, but Nexus was killed in the war and Galahad proceeded to win the battle to avenge her, finally passing out and dying from his injuries after what was left of the enemy had fled

- Netherum and Soul decided to place Galahad in charge of the Netherian armies, not only because of their new status as a god, but also for their bravery, courage, and sacrifice; what remained of the Nexai Knights became Galahad's top generals

- In this AU, the Nether fortresses were built by the Overworlders, but taken over by the Nether when the war ended as the Nether was not as bad off by the end as it is in canon; Galahad runs all the Nether fortresses with his position as leader of the Nether armies (bc blazes spawn in Nether fortresses in Minecraft, so it makes sense)

- In this AU, blazes were the ancient inventors of alchemy in the Nether as the powder from their rods is the base of all potions/brewing stands; alchemy is a stable of blaze culture and therefore VERY prevalent in the Nether armies

  • Athena has brought Icarus' research to Galahad for further exploration of alchemy's potential; an entire section of the army is dedicated to potions, and there is a specific position in the army called the "potion bearer" or just "bearer", who uses distributes and uses potions as weapons
  • Potions are commonly used outside of the army or doctors; the town doctor is typically also the town alchemist
  • Ghasts do not have as much access to potions (aka healthcare) as piglins, who live in villages with doctors, and blazes, who have connections to the army, so they often sell ghast tears in exchange for potions from other species; ghasts who grow tired of a nomadic life typically join the army rather than piglin villages, as their explosive powers are quite useful in battle and nether fortresses are much more accommodating to their size

- Galahad has only one temple near the castle where the knights train and knight candidates are initiated by their god

  • Galahad is known to despise both worship and offerings, so there are not any other temples; there are, however, altars set up all over the Nether, especially in organized communities, so that people can pray for protection and/or aid in battle should they need it
  • The castle temple is a combination of an Arabic Mosque and an Indian Hindu temple because (according to cc!Athena), blaze culture is based of those of Arabia and India, generally speaking; cc!Galahad never confirmed this, but I am going to take Athena's word on this as they are still a cast member; hopefully cc!Galahad won't mind
  • The castle temple is mainly made up of a courtyard, like in Arabic Mosques, where the knights train, and the layered, triangular domed roof of an Indian Hindu temple (called a shikhara); the inside is an empty hallway with a small altar (called "The Altar of Knighthood) for Galahad to hold knighting ceremonies; the next several floors are armories and potion labs, and in the basement is a safehouse with supplies in case of emergencies; it is mostly most of various nether bricks, as are the altars that are
  • The temple has a mural of Galahad above the Altar of Knighthood and a grave/mural/statue (I haven't decided which, probably all three) for Nexus in the courtyard
  • Galahad's mural depicts him with the three fireballs of blazes with triangles in their centers (bc blazes always shoot three fireballs apparently)

- Galahad is treated a bit less like a god and a bit more like a really powerful general and hero that can be reliably called upon for aid

  • Nether gods interact very frequently with mortals, second only to Aether gods

Chapter 14: Wanda: Goddess of Community

Summary:

Our favorite piglin Mom has arrived!

Chapter Text

- Powers: chlorokinesis (plant control), improving health and immunity (not full healing though), calming presence, bringing love to the forefront of the mind

- Prayed to: for bountiful harvest, protection/recovery from illness, help with disagreements between neighbors and loved ones, and for a strong and close community; by piglin villages and sometimes bastions

- Patron of Communities, Love, and Piglins/Piglin Villages

- 8th to ascend, 1st Nether god

- Died from an illness that struck her village

  • A piglin-specific plague struck her village; the Tuskly family was one of the few to not get sick and proceeded to take care of the whole village and rally others to do so as well; this included doing things like farming and cooking; her village had the most survivors out of all the piglin villages, but because Wanda had exposed herself while taking care of the sick, she herself did not survive

- Originally a normal piglin living with her family, like in canon except way earlier

- After ascension, she lived with her husband Wilkins in her original village; after Wilkins died of old age, she moved to the castle with the other gods because her kids were already grown

- Her descendants are often considered the de facto leaders of piglin communities (which causes some controversy; Wanda herself does not personally endorse this); some descendants become the village doctors instead due to Wanda's connection to healing

- Wanda is the de facto diplomat due to her calming powers, and travels both throughout the Nether and to the other realms quite a bit; Wilkins used to join her, which is how they both met Ulysses and became friends; Wanda and Ulysses are still close, especially because they are both healers

  • Their friendship with Ulysses allowed them to discover alcohol; they brought it into the Nether and also created a new recipe made from native Nether ingredients
  • Wanda often goes around the Nether preparing food, which is how she uses her healing magic, and teaching others to prepare this food; food and drink are often used for healing more than potions within piglin communities

- Piglins are typically the only Netherian people to congregate in villages, so piglins are usually the only ones to worship her

  • Bastion piglins also worship her (less so, but still) because a bastion is also a community
  • Blazes in Nether fortresses also worship her to a minor degree, burning food in her honor (as explained below)

- Hospitality is considered to be very important to piglins, as well as contributing to the community; if either of these social rules are violated, it is said that your likelihood of sickness greatly increases by Wanda’s Will

- Altars/shrines in the home (or in a central part of the bastion) are used in place of temples; they are almost always in the kitchen and very similar to censers (incense holders) because you burn food in fire to create a homey smell; sometimes you say prayers when you burn things, sometimes you just use it for the smell; it's sort of like Percy Jackson, where they burn food to honor the gods and send prayers

- Wanda is viewed the way Hestia is viewed by the Greeks: a household goddess who is kind and benevolent but sometimes overlooked (especially by non-piglins) due to her lack of flashiness; she is also the most ancient Nether god, with the most applications in daily life due to her role in agriculture, community, and medicine, so she is ultimately the most well-respected despite not being very famous

  • There were actually some that, when Netherum rose to the throne, argued that Wanda should be leader since she was the first Netherian god; she refused the position and quieted the protests; Netherum offered her a position in their counsel and, since Wilkins was already dead by this point, she agreed, helping to raise Athena and eventually became part of Athena's counsel

Chapter 15: Oscar: God of Thieves

Summary:

Here comes the boy!!! (... to rob your house :3)

Chapter Text

- Powers: camouflage, magic (aka OP) crossbow, super speed/agility, age deceleration (he cannot grant immortality, but he can slow the aging process for his followers) (this only works on kids though), super bite (can kill people) (Oscar bites people, I had to lol)

- Prayed to: for success in raids and robberies, protection from thieves, and shelter for orphans; by thieves, bastion-dwellers, and orphans

- Patron of Thieves, Orphans, and Children

  • Nicknamed the Bane of Bastions and the Orphan Thief

- 12th to ascend, 3rd Nether god

- Died in the canon heist with Ollie and Ophelia (I hope I’m getting their names right); stalled for time while Ollie and Ophelia got away; youngest thieves to ever successfully rob a bastion; killed by a crossbow shot

- Originally an orphan found by Ollie and Ophelia; he planned a robbery to get them out of poverty

- Ollie and Ophelia are his consorts and most devoted followers, even though they grow up and he doesn’t (their aging slows while around him though)

  • Oscar's age deceleration powers is known as the Orphans Blessing
  • Ollie and Ophelia are not technically gods, but they are not quite mortal either; they have decelerated aging and enhanced speed/agility/endurance

- Oscar collects other orphans and offers them a place to go; they are not required to become thieves but many of them do

  • All of these orphans are from bastions, as piglin villages are much too community driven to abandon kids, while bastion culture is more based on strength and natural selection
  • The group is known as the Thieves Guild

- Bastions leave out gold as offerings to keep Oscar & co away; leaving out toys and food along with the gold might even get you protection from other thieves

  • No actual temples or even official alters or shrines, just small alcoves where offerings are left
  • The secret clearing, called the Orphans' Den, where Oscar lives with his “followers” is the closest thing Oscar has to a temple

- Athena & co tried to negotiate with no luck, even with Wanda; Oscar was becoming such a menace that something HAD to be done, but they didn't want to kill or imprison a child

  • Oscar, Ollie, and Ophelia are banished to the Overworld and adopted by Ocie, but Ollie and Ophelia are eventually allowed back into the Nether and are taken in by Wanda while Oscar stays with Ocie

- Seen as a trickster god like Loki or Hermes, meaning he can be mischievous or benevolent on a whim; also seen as a Robin Hood type figure, especially to his own followers; not worshipped in the Overworld, basically retires and becomes a normal kid with immortality and powers

Chapter 16: Terry: God of Explosions

Summary:

... the Nether needed more gods, and I thought it would be funny given how he died :)

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

- Powers: explosion inducement, explosive ball projection, alcohol generation

- Prayed to: for protection from thieves and overall support/blessings; by bastion-dwellers and ghasts

- Patron of Bastions, Creepers, Tavern-Keepers, and Ghasts

- 9th to ascend, 2nd Nether god

- Died same as canon but MUCH earlier

- Originally just some guy who ran away from his parents alongside Jerry and wanted to explore the Nether for fun, dragging Jerry along with him; eventually, Jerry would leave and then come back to convince Terry to come meet his girlfriend... he died before he could get there

- When he ascended and revealed himself the bastion piglins were terrified that this god would be angry about being killed by one of their traps, but he was honestly really chill about it, laughing at their fear and basically making fun of them and their traps

  • The piglins were so insistent about making it up to him that he stuck around and kinda accidentally became their patron; he also demanded that they include bars/taverns in the bastions to "liven up the mood a little"; he actually runs/lives in one these bars (in the bastion where he died funnily enough)
  • As time goes on, Terry realizes how often Overworlders, Endermen, and even other Netherians raid and steal from the bastions, feels bad, and starts actually helping them with their booby traps/protecting the bastions; this is when he truly becomes their patron

- Wanda and Wilkins were the ones to first bring alcohol to the Nether, but Terry was the one to bring the concept of bars and taverns to the Nether; beforehand it was mostly just homemade alcohol made and consumed by piglins in their houses, and even then it was typically just the piglin villages as bastion piglins were not particularly food/drink/agriculture based

- Terry is also friends with Wanda because of their shared love of alcohol, brewing, and community; Wanda was drawn to Terry because of how he was improving the community and camaraderie within the bastions, since her focus had always been the piglin villages

- Terry definitely misses his brother, but doesn't know he's a god, so he assumed Jerry died of old age a long time ago (and Jerry thinks he died all those years ago in the explosion, and he still carries that guilt...)

- Mortal enemies with Oscar, who kept stealing from the bastions he protects; he was very pleased when Oscar was sent away to live with a mysterious Overworld goddess known as Ocie...

  • Do y'all think Oscar may have mentioned to Ocie (and therefore Jerry) about a "stupid party-pooper god" named Terry? Who knows? >:3

- Terry felt that ghasts were kindred spirits to him because explosions (and being labeled as dangerous because of them); he deemed himself their patron just because; the ghasts were not about to complain about finally getting some godly representation

  • All jokes aside, the few times Terry gets involved with the Nether court, he does advocate for ghast accessibility and fights the stereotype of them being dangerous just because of their explosions (“The blaze can do the same thing, they're just smaller!!”)

- Like in the Overworld, creeper heads are carved in places that hold precious cargo, like in bastions and even in dens, as a symbol of protection

- Funnily enough, most of his worship has nothing to do with explosions lol, except for helping bastions with their traps

- The bastion piglins have no official temples for Terry, but the bars that are mandated to be in every bastion are his places of “worship”; their architectural style is based on Kenyan temples, as that is what the piglin culture is based off of (according to cc!Athena)

  • They are small, rounded rooms with a dome-shaped roof made from whatever materials are available
  • Offerings, placed at a small altar on the side wall, typically consist of a portion of the gold that Terry helps them protect
  • Besides all this, they're just regular taverns; except, that is, the one where Terry himself runs and resides in, which is a bit more extravagant and includes a bedroom/living quarters in the back; What do y'all think Terry's bedroom looks like?

- Temples made by the ghasts have elements of temples from Thailand, Malaysia, and China, as those are the cultures the ghasts are based off of (according to cc!Athena)

  • The larger ones are basically ghast villages with their own living spaces and classrooms (Thailand), and typically include statues of creepers on their “roofs”, or just the higher parts of the structures (China and Malaysia)
  • Like all ghast architecture, they are built on floating islands because ghasts can fly, very open concept because ghasts are huge (very few ceilings/roofed buildings), and integrate the natural lava waterfalls because ghasts are fire proof
  • All these temples have an empty fountain as its centerpiece (more on that later)
  • These temples are the closest thing ghasts have to an organized society as in my AU they are usually nomadic hunter-gatherers because, while ghast clothing/architecture/etc is based on the cultures mentioned above, they are not as advanced as those cultures because their tentacles/lack of hands and large size make it difficult to progress as a society
  • Also in my AU, ghasts do not need to eat or drink, so they have no idea how to make alcohol for a bar or for offerings; instead, they use their tentacles to collect anything they deem valuable for the offerings, and when they place them at the fountain in the center of every temple, mead pours from it, provided by Terry

- Terry’s worship is mostly exclusive to bastions-dwellers and ghasts; he is sort of like this AU’s Aurelius and worshiped similarly, except his schtick is protecting wealth instead of generating it; both he and canon Aurelius are known for being very confident, carefree, and fun-loving, but also powerful and therefore somewhat feared; Terry's a LOT more easy-going and less egotistical than Aurelius, so he's a lot less of a threat lol; people are still scared of him though (especially because he's a creeper, a species not native to the Nether with a fearsome, explosive reputation), except for the ghasts, who absolutely idolize him for being the only god to pay them any mind (this lack of fear, plus the fact that people fear the ghasts for the same reasons they fear him, might be part of the reason he cares for them so much)

Notes:

I've kind of noticed that doing the characters with limited screen time is, like, SO much fun because I have SO much room to work with... you'd think it be harder due to the limited material, but the more prominent characters are actually harder because you have to fit so much in while also altering it to match the AU lol

Anyways, time for the Aether Gods >;)

Chapter 17: Will: God of Travelers

Summary:

AETHER GODS!!!! :)

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

- Powers: teleportation, flight (all Aether gods have wings), clairvoyance (locating places/people/things using a 6th sense)

- Prayed to: for safe passage into the Aether and safety while traveling; by mourners, people on their deathbed, the recently deceased, travelers and their loved ones, and anyone risking their life

- Patron of the Aether, Travelers, and the Dead

  • Often nicknamed "The Angel", the "God of the Present", and/or the "Falconer of Souls" (a falconer is someone who tames/cares for/leads wild birds) (he has feathered angel wings, so I feel like it fits)

- 1st to ascend, 1st Aether god

- Died in the Aether, asking the Primordials to be allowed to take care of Aether because he fell in love with the place so much

- Originally an adventurer that was determined to be the first to find the Aether; he eventually succeeded but he spent too long exploring within the Aether and his body gave out before he could leave; the Primordials heard his dying prayer and determined that he would be the major god/caretaker of the Aether and the very first god to ascend

- Will gained his signature mask and wings after ascending; I think his mask would be an owl, a falcon, or a polar bear rather than the cat mask he has in canon... what do y'all think?

  • Whatever the shape of his mask is, this mask, his wings, and even his gloves change colors and/or glow depending on his mood or if he is using his powers; this is in reference to how his mask/gloves changed in canon; the mask also tends to protect him from the powers of other gods (also referencing canon)

- He left his polar bear companion, Wilton, outside the portal to wait for his return; when Will ascended, he panicked bc he didn't wanna leave Wilton but he also didn't wanna have to kill Wilton so that he could join him in the Aether; Will ended up nervously ranting about this conundrum in front of Wilton, who proceeded to waltz into the Aether himself and laid down to wait for his death so that he could join his master; he wouldn't budge when Will tried to reason with him so he just laid with Wilton until he passed

  • Part of the reason the Aether is so cold is that A) the souls can't feel temperature and B) Will wanted to make it more comfortable for Wilton
  • The Primordials decided to be nice, so when Wilton passed, they made the bear super cool looking and god-like and stuff lol (like, he's just a bear, but he looks cooler and is slightly better physically) (Any ideas for how the Primordials upgraded Wilton? Leave 'em in the comments, I wanna see :3)

- His parents, Alerion and Vivienne, would eventually join him in death and aid him in caring for the Aether, not as gods but as caretakers

  • Vivienne is often responsible for comforting souls and, before Arisanna/Soraza, taking care of the library/allays; Alerion is usually responsible for creating the architecture, homes for the souls to reside in that at least somewhat resemble the one in which they lived before (bc he's the god of space and created all the realms in canon, so architecture is the next best thing, right?)
  • I'm gonna go ahead and say that Alerion and Vivienne were librarians and leaders of a local community in the Overworld while they were alive; note here: as I said in chapter one, the canon major gods are not siblings in this AU
  • Unlike in canon, Vivienne is much more social and well-known than Alerion due to her direct contact with the souls she comforts; Alerion is known to be friendly and kind, but also shy and nearly always silent except with friends and family; mans sticks to his work, building a multitude of homes and communities, comforting those he can with gifts rather than words (like in canon); Rae, as well as a couple of others, have managed to catch him during diplomacy meetings and become friends

- He brought the first Overworld plant into the Aether: the cornflower; it is now the most common flower in the Aether

- There is a book in the Aetherian library titled "Luxra Vocel", a book containing all the souls from the very beginning of the world, so ancient that they faded away into mere words on a page; Will found this book and felt bad for the souls, so he keeps it with him at all times and consults them on everything

- Candles and angel wings are considered to be his symbols and are used in funeral rites

  • Wings are carved into graves
  • Keeping the candles at the grave lit for a week after a person dies so that Will can find the soul and guide them to the Aether is considered the responsibility of the next of kin
  • Cornflowers, to a lesser degree, are also considered sacred because they are Will’s favorite; they are typically used in funeral bouquets
  • Wings are also embroidered into the log books/journals of adventurers and traveling merchants; the families of travelers often light candles while their loved ones are traveling so that "The Angel will bring them home"; people in times of crisis will often light candles in their homes to pray for either safety in life or safe passage into the afterlife

- When Will comes to guide souls to the Aether, some are not ready to leave, so he leaves a map at the grave for the spirit to follow to get to the Aether when they are ready; people noticed this and it is now tradition to leave an empty map at the grave for Will to use

- Mans has definitely met Galahad through, like, diplomacy meetings or whatever... and also Seven, but we'll get to him later; there is no interdimensional QPR gayness happening here, nope not at all ;)

  • Such meetings/visits are also how he met everyone else, like Jamie, Caspian, Rae, etc; he has a particular dislike of Icarus due to the war and their loyalty to Fable and all that; he is particularly close with Rae and Caspian due to their shared love of discovery/adventure; any time he sees Jamie, he tends to take them under their wing (pun intended) due to their shared social awkwardness

- Will does not have any temples and is more so worshipped in the home, in funerals, and/or in other more domestic ways

- Will is viewed as a less-scary Grim Reaper, more so like a Valkyrie, a benevolent angel who guides people to the afterlife; he is not worshiped by the Aetherians so much as respected as a leader; he is worshiped by the living from all the other realms

  • There have been very few times that Will has had to be intimidating, but every now and then something will happen where he has to remind people that he survived alone facing mobs for years as an adventurer, and that he is certainly no less capable as a god; the few people that manage to witness these events make sure to spread word of Will's might, but not in a way that would make people afraid of him, as his people respect him too much to spread those kinds of rumors
  • Will is known to represent the present, while Haley represents the future and Arisanna represents the past (we'll get to that soon ;3)

Notes:

This one was harder than I thought it would be lol
In any case, I'm really looking forward to this section as my brain absolutely went HARD on these next few chapters (3

Chapter 18: Seven: God of Servitude

Summary:

Missing Seven hours :(

Chapter Text

- Powers: laser canon, strength/endurance/information storage/etc (typical robot abilities), creating robots/clones, flight (again, all Aether gods have wings)

- Prayed to: not prayed to or worshiped

- Patron of Servants, Friendships, and Free Will

- 22nd to ascend, 5th Aether god

- Died while gathering materials, getting stuck, rusting, and shutting down

- Originally Fable’s servant, given as a gift to Icarus, who proceeded to teach him free will

  • Icarus was teaching Seven how to be a person, which Fable didn't entirely like bc a) Seven wasn't built to be a person, and b) Seven was doing the same thing back to Icarus, telling them that they should also be independent and make their own choices
  • Icarus got sick one day, so Fable gave Seven an impossible task: to find lilies of the valley that aren't poisonous, so that they could be used as medicine for Icarus; Seven went out and found plenty of lilies, but none that were safe to ingest; he eventually ran out of power, rusted, and died in a field of lilies, similar to canon; Fable told Icarus that Seven fell off a cliff while gathering supplies
  • Btw, I'm not entirely sure who built Seven in this AU, especially since we're not 100% sure who built him in canon... what do you guys think?

- Seven ascended and befriended Will fairly quickly; he doesn’t quite get along with the others as well due to lack of social skills; however, he does work somewhat closely with Arisanna and they respect each other, even if they are not close personally

  • There is absolutely no QPR shenanigans happening with Secret Duo, nope, not even a little ;)
  • Instead of the canon situation, where Will got Seven away from Sherb, Will instead comforts Seven about Fable and the way he treated him, while also reassuring him that Icarus will be fine without him (despite the fact that Will doesn't like them personally); Icarus taught Seven to even consider being a person, while Will helped undo Fable's conditioning (it's a bit Pearl from Steven Universe coded lol)

- Seven brought lilies of the valley into the Aether, especially because they grow off of his body in his god form because he died in a field of them; they have become very common within the Aether, especially with Will’s help; they can even use them in food because souls and gods can't be poisoned (even Seven doesn't miss the irony in this lol) (he did sort of succeed in his task after all)

- Seven got wings after ascending; they look sort of like canon Easton's wings except grey-blue and covered in vines; he doesn't use them very much

- His laser canon can now eliminate souls and gods; he hasn't used it since his ascension, so he doesn't know that yet

- He can generate robots/clones (they are non-sentient and less powerful) to help maintain the Aether; they can be anything from construction workers to assistant bookkeepers to guards; Arisanna and Chaos were threatened at first, thinking that their jobs would be stolen, but they soon found the robots to be rather useful (it certainly took some pressure off of Ari’s shoulders…)

- His duties mainly consist of being Will's advisor, helping Alerion with construction, and creating and sending his robots to do tasks as needed

  • When he has "free time" (he is VERY unfamiliar with this concept, but Will insists that he takes breaks), he typically goes to the library to organize books; there he meets Arisanna, who convinces him to try reading the books for fun; he eventually agrees, and the two bond a bit over being reclusive workaholics who like reading
  • He has noticed Will's fondness for Galahad and has started helping Galahad and Will sneak to and from their respective realms to spend time together; Seven has actually been invited on several of these dates, which is how QPR Temperature Trio formed :)

- Seven has no temples and is not worshipped in any capacity, more so being an important member of Will's court, like a right hand man

- Seven is seen both as a powerful god with an army of robots at his disposal, but also as Will's servant who, in a manner of speaking, is below other gods (and, to some, even mortals); this is especially true because he is one of the most recent gods to ascend

  • Will hates this, but Seven doesn’t particularly care unless people are rude about it to him directly
  • Many people are kind of rude about it and try to treat Seven himself as a servant; he remains calm, but it still isn’t pleasant, especially since he worked so hard with Icarus to become as sentient as he is
  • Even though he isn’t super close with the other gods besides Will, when Seven is insulted, you’ll typically have Will, Ari, and Chaos on your case about it… which is never something you want
  • People have learned to not be rude to Seven… at least in public

Chapter 19: Quick Update

Chapter Text

With recent lore changing the game quite a lot (as I figured it would), I wanted to clarify some stuff.

Sometime soon, probably after the finale, I will be posting a chapter letting y'all know that I have updated all the other chapters to be more lore-accurate! There is quite a bit of stuff I wanna change, like Jamie's chapter, and the ghast culture lore in my AU with the recent Nether revelations. I also wanna go into more detail about, like, plot stuff for this AU once lore is over. I imagine as more and more things are revealed in lore, I will have more things to update.

In summary, I will be changing some things about this AU as the lore goes on, but I will be waiting until after the finale. So, yeah, I'll post a chapter letting y'all know when I've finished all the updates. For now, I'll continue posting chapters as normal. See ya then!

PS: Do y'all have any suggestions about what Arisanna's powers should be? I've been trying for months and I am STRUGGLING :,)

Chapter 20: Update Part 2

Chapter Text

Sorry I've been gone for so long you guys! I had to move back home from college, and my chronic pain has been giving me hell the past couple of weeks.

I am writing this update to announce that I am going to have to rewrite some things before I can proceed with future chapters.

Now that most of the characters are gods in canon, that may change some things in this AU, especially with Caspian being an Aether god in canon and an End god in this AU. Icarus's chapter needs a LOT of rewriting with all the new Quixis lore, Aax and Ulysses's entire dynamic needs changing, Jamie's chapter needs some alterations with the reveal of Bruin, and the Nether cultures of my AU (specifically the ghast sections) need a couple of tweaks.

I also have actual plot ideas now that the finale is over that I may expand upon.

All in all, it may be a while before I am actually able to post another chapter. However, I will be updating all the previous chapters, so keep an eye out for that! I will post Update Part 3 to let y'all know when all the edits are done and when I will be posting a new chapter.

Thank you all for your patience and support. Thanks to you guys, this fic now has the most the most hits out of any of my fics, and we're close to breaking my kudos record of 83! This fandom has been incredible to be a part of, and I am so thankful that I've been able to contribute to it. And an extra special thank you to my biggest fan and commenter for this fic, SoopisnotSoup. You have been half the reason I've had the motivation to turn this silly little passion project into something special, as well as all those who have commented on and read my previous fics.

Thank you guys. Hopefully, I will have new content for you all shortly. For now, let us bask in the glory of a Minecraft roleplay server with an genuinely satisfying finale, a wonderful cast, and a ridiculously supportive fandom. See ya soon!

Chapter 21: I'M BACK BABY!!!!

Summary:

This is slightly venty tbh, but TLDR: Summer was rough, but I'm back and I'll be updating somewhat consistently again.

Chapter Text

I'm finally back!

It's been a while, and I feel like a should apologize for that. However, I know that this is my story and my life, and I'm allowed to do what I want with both. And I know you guys would agree with me and tell me that I don't need to apologize, so I just won't :) . Thank you for y'all's support and patience.

Summer has been a lot. I got a summer job at a daycare, which was an... interesting experience. My chronic pain has been terrible and honestly been getting worse with no solution in sight. It's been difficult to get out of bed for anything except for work. On top of that, my anxiety, specifically my anxiety about writing, has been preventing me from even touching this for ages. However, I am now in college, which for some reason makes me feel better emotionally, and I am ready to get back into this. I am definitely the type to leave projects unfinished, but I am determined to leave a finished project for this fandom to enjoy. This is the first fandom I ever actively participated in, and the first (and sadly only) one to make me feel completely safe and supported. I know I don't owe anyone anything, but I want to pay that kindness back, as well as give myself the chance to finish something I genuinely enjoy making, even if my brain and body are kicking my ass about it. I'll do it for you guys, and for me.

Then, there's Soup, my biggest supporter throughout this fic. They have commented on nearly every chapter, and have become half the reason I have poured so much effort into what was originally a casual writing project. I haven't seen them much recently, since I haven't been particularly active on the discord or Ao3. I don't know if they're still here, or if they'll see this. However, if they do... thank you, Soup. Thank you for being someone to write for, to look forward to seeing, to bring joy to. It has been so rewarding seeing your excitement at every chapter, and having discussions with you about the little AU I have created. Even if you don't see this, I'll keep writing for you too. Thank you.

On a less sappy note, the next chapter should be about Haley, my kooky little Aether goddess that I particularly enjoy. I should be uploading this sometime tomorrow, or at least within the week. I also revised some previous chapters, but most of the changes to my original plan are going to be shown in the plot summary at the end. Ulysses's chapter/story got a massive overhaul and is essentially entirely different, so I would suggest looking at that one in particular. We are half-way through the Aether, then the End, then the plot summary, and finally some extra worldbuilding details. Most of these things are already written, but need editing. We're close.

Let's finish this story together, just as we did with the finale. Shall we? ;)

Chapter 22: Haley: Goddess of Knowledge

Summary:

It's our girl! Our spooky little lad!

Chapter Text

- Powers: clairvoyance (seeing the future), partial/selective omnipotence, teleportation abilities, invisibility

  • She has all knowledge, but it's all scrambled in her brain, so even though she knows everything, sometimes she remembers/says things wrong
  • She can teleport herself throughout the realms, as well as objects (like books, or even libraries…)
  • She has the same wings as canon, but rarely uses them

- Prayed to: for knowledge of the future, past, and present

- Patron of Oracles

  • Also called the Oracle/Prophet, the Inevitable Goddess, Lady Inevitable, The Time-Keeper, or just The Keeper
  • Some Aetherians even call her the Patron of the Living, as she is the souls connection to their living loved ones
  • Finally, she is also called the "Goddess of the Future", as Will is called the "God of the Present"

- 19th to ascend, 4th Aether god

- Died to an arrow in the back from Icarus

- Originally a farmer that made friends with Momboo (who saved her life in the forest), Rae (she went to the End to find more plants to cultivate), and Icarus (sold them potion ingredients); she and Icarus got into a huge argument about Icarus’ resentment towards Rae, they got paranoid that she was a traitor to the Overworld/kingdom (definitely not something that Fable suggested due to her being friends with the End prince) and shot her in the back; it’s been their biggest regret ever since

- Instead of it being a hallucination like in canon, Haley actually does appear in front of Icarus; she is a bit petty, but she also wants to help (but can’t interfere too much directly)

- She is responsible for looking after the book of the present

  • Souls of the Aether go to her to learn the fate of the living that they left behind; she is willing to share the present, but not typically the future

- Miniature libraries appear all across the realms with books from the Aether; the mortals attribute this to Haley as she has been spotted within them multiple times (which is how people found out about her to begin with); she firmly denies this to Will and the other Aether gods, who are trying to figure out how to stop the libraries from appearing

  • Some have set up temples in these libraries and claimed to be Haley’s “disciples”, oracles who are blessed by their goddess to tell the future; they’re all liars, but Haley has not done much to intervene
  • Daisies cover the edges of the libraries, and they are considered a symbol of mystery (not too much though, because she hasn’t been a goddess for very long, so very little symbolism has been established)

- She brought daisies into the Aether, but they are typically only found near the library where she lives

  • Icarus also made daisies the main flower to use for graves in the Gilded Kingdom to honor her memory

- She is a crazy cat lady; she collects a large number of cats, and seeing one of them roaming around is considered a good or bad omen by the Aetherians depending on the context

- She is seen by the Overworlders as a mysterious and powerful oracle, a bit more of an idol than a person in all honesty; many people don't even believe she exists; she is not known well in the End or Nether

- The Aetherians know her as basically Madame Razz from She-Ra: crazy, cryptic, and hard to understand, but helpful if you can figure out what she’s saying

Chapter 23: Chaos: Deity of Home

Summary:

I am SO excited for this one ;3

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

- Powers: flight (wings) (there is a bit of a wing-related theme in the Aether in case you haven’t noticed), pyrokinesis (the fire they generate is blue to fit the Aether’s theme), teleportation

- Prayed to: for strength in battle, aid in protecting their home, and safety in the afterlife; by warriors, guardians, and the souls of the Aether

- Patron of the Home and Guardians (guards, village chieves and/or elders, even masters of the household; anyone protecting their home is under their patronage)

  • Also known as the Patron of Seaside, The Grand Bard, and The Ocean's King

- 11th to ascend, 3rd Aether god

- Died in their home village in a massive fire

- Originally an assassin/freelancer for hire with Lolla and Marik; everything happened the same as canon up until Marik’s betrayal; Chaos actually survived and sabotaged Marik from getting the object he wanted; in revenge, Marik burned down their village; Chaos died from saving several people from the fire

  • Before their death, they were one of Ocie’s favored mortals along with Vorago and Casus; Chaos lived in a coastal village and stumbled across her one day and said “you’re my friend now :)”; they built a bar together called the Green Dragon (though Chaos was the only known owner; Ocie wanted to keep her involvement with Chaos a secret); they even got platonically engaged and Chaos often joked about being the king of the town (because it was on the coast, Ocie was the and Chaos was engaged to them)

- After ascension, Chaos was assigned by Will to “keep the peace” within the Aether; there are, of course, people who die/go to the Aether who were bad and would continue to hurt others in death; it is Chaos’s job to intervene and, if necessary, isolate the worst ones in a particular part of the Aether known as “The Prison Grounds”;

  • Certain capable souls are assigned to work on rehabilitating these souls (Lolla is one of them… partially as an excuse to work with Chaos again); Chaos’s role is to keep them there and keep them from hurting others
  • Will has to keep Chaos on a tight leash to keep them from being unnecessarily violent… especially when Marik died and went to the Aether
  • Even though it’s not their job, they also help with building homes and shelters for the souls

- Blue fire, or “soul fire”, is seen as a staple of the Aether as well as the Nether due to Chaos’s powers; they are actually the one that brought fire into the Aether, which greatly helped with lighting and warmth; fires could not be started beforehand due to the ethereal and cold nature of the Aether

- Marigolds are now EVERYWHERE in the Aether and one of the most common flowers besides cornflowers; also one of the only not blue/white plants

- Chaos somehow managed to sneak dragonflies into the Aether (no one knows how, and yet no one is surprised); they don't have lot of symbolism but they are considered to be good omens; some have nicknamed them "little protectors"

- Chaos’ family (especially their father) get very special treatment from Chaos; Chaos basically rebuilt their hometown in the Aether and invited everyone in their family/town to live there when they died; this section of the Aether is known as “Seaside”, after the nickname that Ocie and Chaos gave the town; Chaos became Seaside’s patron god

  • They built this town on the shores of the Telchins home under the Aether’s “oceans”; The Telchin souls found out about Chaos’ connection to Ocie and began worshiping her as their patron god as well; Chaos is only ocean-related god in the Aether, which helps them feel a bit more connected to their former home

- Chaos does not tend to get along with most of the Aether gods due to their chaotic, unpredictable nature; however, they do get along with Haley (crazy people gotta stick together, right?)

- Chaos is one of the only gods in the Aether that experiences traditional worship; they built themselves a temple where Aetherians can leave anything (literally anything) as an offering

  • This is partially because Chaos was a for-hire freelancer in life; they consider the offerings to be “payment” for their services as a god
  • Seaside also has a temple built by the inhabitants; the people of Seaside consider Chaos to be their main god, more so than even Will; none of the other gods really mind this, but the other Aetherians tend to think of them as strange and tend to avoid interacting with them
  • Both temples, and the whole of Seaside itself, are considered sanctuaries for people to call upon Chaos if another soul is being violent or dangerous
  • The Telchin also added a statue of her to their own temples in the afterlife
  • You can also “hire” Chaos using offerings at these temples to take revenge on people who wronged you, whether they are alive or dead; interfering with the living is considered “illegal” in the Aether, but Chaos will do it for the right price; Will and the other gods don’t know about this except Haley
  • In their murals/statues/etc, in Seaside, they are portrayed holding fire; the Telchin Aetherians typically portray them with small knife instead

- The living do not worship Chaos in any official capacity, but she is considered to be like the Valkyries in Valhalla, welcoming worthy warriors i n the afterlife; mortal warriors pray to them and even sometimes have altars in the barracks or on the training grounds; they are not particularly aware that the Aetherians pay her to kill them sometimes :)

- Chaos is seen as a necessary and important god by the Aetherians, but also a dangerous and mischievous one; they are VERY aware of the fact that Will is the one keeping them under control; Chaos is somewhat feared by most of the Aether except for in Seaside, where they are viewed as a mighty warrior god and generous patron

Notes:

One more to go for the Aether, and then it's on to the End! (3

Chapter 24: Arisanna: Goddess of Preservation

Summary:

Sad allay times, but not that sad (yet ;3)

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

- Powers: flight (wings), summoning (books, items, music etc) (has to be something that already exists), communicating with allays, giving objects (and sometimes people/creatures) a small layer of protection

- Prayed to by no one; is not worshiped or prayed to in any capacity

- Patron of the Library and the Allays

  • Also called the Librarian, Keeper of Allays, or Lady of Music
  • Also also called the "Goddess of the Past", like how Will is called the "God of the Present"

- 2nd to ascend, 2nd Aether god

- Died defending allays from pillagers

- Originally assistant librarian and the daughter of a librarian named Soraza

  • Allays escaped from the Aether and got lost; Soraza found some and took them in
  • Ari grew up alongside allays and they formed both a method of communication and a very close bond, almost like siblings…
  • Eventually she stumbled upon allays in cages at a pillager outpost and died freeing them

- Before she ascended, not even Will could figure out how to talk to the allays, the only native-born species in the Aether, and had quite a difficult time managing them and figuring out what to do with them; once Ari came and told him that the allays has acted as assistants for Soraza, he had the idea to use them as bookkeepers and put her in charge of them (and eventually the entire library)

  • Don’t worry, once Will found out the allays had escaped into the Overworld, he was able to bring them all back without too much of an issue, even the ones captured by pillagers
  • Will was also VERY happy to finally have some help running the Aether
  • Also also, Ari proceeded to BUILD THE ENTIRE LIBRARY (just like her mom in canon <3)- or, at least, the library we know today; it was kind of there, but a bit more... abstract

- Soraza would eventually die and join her daughter, even becoming her assistant (the allays were very happy to see her again)

  • Soraza and Vivienne became very close; Alerion as well, but not as much

- Ari brought alliums into the Aether, but they are mainly found near/within the library

- Ari is known as the "Lady of Music" bc the allays love performing for the souls, so to make her siblings happy, Ari starting learning/organizing choreography for the allays and putting on shows for the souls; it's one of the only times Ari is seen outside the library, so it's a big event, and over the centuries the allays have gotten so good at it that there's no soul worth their salt who would miss a performance

  • Ari definitely doesn't have stage fright/anxiety about any of this, nope, not at all (the allays have to beg her to do it every time)

- In the first war, Soraza "mysteriously disappeared" while defending the allays, many of which went missing; Ari left afterwards to find them, which is how she met the other gods like Fenris, Rae, etc

  • Haley would eventually take over the library until Ari's return; before Haley ascended, however, Alerion and Vivienne split up the work between themselves

- Ari is not worshipped, seen more as a caretaker/guardian than a goddess, so she has no temples; she does eventually get a mural in the library tho, maintained mainly by the allays themselves

- She is not known by anyone outside of the Aether; even the Aetherians don’t know much about her unless they frequent the library

- She is seen as wise, nurturing, and benevolent… and a bit of an anxious mess by those who have been around her more often

Notes:

Onto the End!!! (3

Chapter 25: Rae: God of Discovery

Chapter Text

- Powers: polymorph (into Warden), sonic blast (even when human), skulk control/sensing/etc, mind reading, is magically able to know which books contain which information and summon said book to him (couldn’t think of a name for this lol)

- Prayed to: for success in research/scouting/etc and for aid in general; by scientist/historians/etc, Endermen scouts, and the general population of the End

- Patron of the End, Research, and Scientists/Historians/Linguists/etc

  • Typically only referred to via royal titles, such as “End Prince”, “Your Highness”, etc

- 20th to ascend, 3rd End god

- Died by Centross’s blade

  • Perix staged a coup and infected the End with skulk, causing many people to fall ill
  • Caspian got captured by Perix; Rae led a rescue party and finally succeeded; Perix managed to infect Rae with a special skulk formula before she was killed, turning him into a were-Warden
  • Rae spent months trying to find a cure (basically the season 2 arc but with a different setting); he found a cure for other people’s lung issues and physical injuries regarding skulk, but not his own Warden transformation
  • Centross ended up accidentally killing him while trying to keep him from hurting others

- Originally the crown prince of the End, a Speaker, and Head of Research; still is, but now he’s also a god

- Good relationship with Isla, strained one with Enderian because of her view regarding the “expendability” of her subjects; they make it work for Isla’s sake

- Before dying, Rae had already made massive headway in documenting the history, languages, and cultures of all the realms; he had also invented the customizable elytra

- Visits the other realms quite frequently (and often without people knowing) to gather research; this is how he met Jamie, Ocie, Easton, Aax, etc

- Icarus always resented Rae bc of Isla’s decision to leave them behind, but then Fable asked Rae to help with Icarus’s wack curse; the two became moderately close until Icarus became a god, at which point Ic was cut off from everyone and Fable declared war

- Orchids were already a symbol of royalty; now they are also a symbol of divinity

- The phrase “By Rae’s Will” is used in many research books/documents/etc

- Enderian and Rae begin to grow closer while preparing for the war with Fable

- Enderian immediately had a temple built for her son, wanting to capitalize on her heir being a god (another strain in their relationship)

  • No specific type of offerings from the general public, just anything valuable
  • Scouts typically give a portion of whatever they discover on their travels as an offering, including animals (aka all the pets he has had in canon, except for De Foxi; De Foxi was a gift from Aax but met the same fate as in canon)
  • Rae's temple is similar but smaller and less grand than Epros' temple; the End does not have a build style/culture that particularly correlates with a real-world culture like the Nether or Overworld peoples do, at least in my AU, so just look at Epros' canon temple and you'll see what I mean lol

- The people of the End are not used to treating him like a god, typically treating him like royalty instead

- Rae is seen as stressed, solemn, reserved, and eager to please by his people, who consistently go to him with their problems

  • Not much has changed about the people’s view since he became a god except that some mildly fear his power; the End has very few gods up until recently and they are not used to it

- The people of the Overworld mildly fear him due to anti-End propaganda

- The people of the Aether barely know him unless they knew him before they died

- The people of the Nether are used to his frequent visits, both as a prince and then a god, and welcome him enthusiastically

  • Some of the Netherians want to build him a temple because of how frequently he visits and how often he helps; Athena refused on Rae’s behalf (which Rae very much appreciated)

Chapter 26: Caspian: God of Adventure

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

- Powers: aerokinesis (controlling wind), communication with wind (he had this power before he ascended)

- Prayed to: by Endermen scouts for success

- Patron of Wanderers/Adventures and Scouts

  • Also known as the God of Wind/Flight; formerly known as "The Lost One" or "The Lost Ghost", which became shortened to Ghosty

- 5th to ascend, 1st End god

- Died when he first came to the End, was killed instead of being brought to Enderian because Enderian wasn’t alive yet

- Originally a Myson who traveled out to find supplies, got attacked by mobs, hit his head, got amnesia, almost died, saved by Momboo, she died in a raid, Caspian traveled for years to find her, got to the End and was killed

- After ascending, he wandered the realms for many many years, looking for Momboo, until after the first war

- After hiding out during said war, he went to Enderian and asked for help; she didn’t know who Momboo was, but she would help him if he worked for her

- Caspian became Head of Scouts/Ambassador and revealed himself as a god to the public

  • Scouts were taught to use sunflowers as a navigation tool

- Before he died, Momboo as a goddess sent the wind to look after him, even if she didn’t know where he was, and gave him the ability to communicate with it

  • When he ascended, he brought wind into the End, which helps the people fly with their elytra
  • He also gained the ability to control the wind, not just communicate with it; he can do so in the End and Overworld, but less so in the other realms

- Caspian, due to his position and responsibilities, kept his distance from the royal family, including Rae as a child, until Rae became an adult and started to work with him due to his position as Head of Scouts

- Perix staged a coup a couple of years before Fable declared his second war

  • Perix managed to capture Caspian (despite him being a god) and held him captive for several months as a test subject; she wanted to see if she could control the gods and turn him into a weapon using skulk; she almost succeeded, creating the formula to turn him into a Warden
  • Rae and several others managed to rescue him and kill Perix, but not before she used her new formula on Rae instead

- He was the End’s diplomat for the Overworld before Rae (and still partially is), which is how he meets Aax, Ocie, Jamie, Will, Athena, etc

  • This is also how he eventually finds Momboo and the two finally reunite
  • This is also how he found Atlas, who followed him around SO much that dogs/wolves started to become a symbol of adventure/exploration (which would become interesting when a certain wolf god shows up later...)

- He has been writing books in his spare time for a while; he published the his Adventure Guide to give to the scouts; he finally published Lady of the World after he reunited with Momboo

- Enderian made it so that Caspian was officially worshiped, with a temple and everything; however, he is mostly just worshiped by the scouts, who use portions of what they collect as offerings

  • There is only one temple, a small one on a floating island near the portal
  • It is more based on Greek/European architecture as that is the Overworld’s main build styles; greenery is incorporated, and sunflower imagery is everywhere
  • It has an office where he works/writes in the back; he greets the scouts/gets reports/gives orders at the front

- Caspian is seen by most as a fairly minor/obscure/reclusive god, but not a threat... people don't really know what to think of him tbh

  • People from the Overworld and Nether are used to seeing him; he was actually a bit of a cryptid legend throughout the realms, a lost soul wandering around without direction, barely interacting with anyone in his quest for... something; this is how he got the nickname "Ghosty" and "The Lost One"
  • After being revealed as a god and becoming a diplomat, people are now more familiar and friendly with him, but they are still wary of him, mostly in the Overworld due to his association with the End (and his remaining cryptid reputation)
  • In the End, people were reluctant to accept him, as he was the first god to appear other than Epros, ESPECIALLY bc he's an Overworlder; however, he is fairly unobtrusive in the people's daily lives, so they mostly ignore him and treat him as a royal official; still, is not very well-liked besides the scouts he leads, who typically come to respect him quite a bit

Notes:

Next come the gods that I actually haven't written yet... I didn't feel like I had enough info about the two of them when I started this fic to write them as gods, so now I have to figure that out >:(
These two chapter might take longer, but I'll get at least one of them out by mid-October at the latest

Chapter 27: Fenris: God of Protection

Summary:

Sorry this took so long guys! My computer restarted and deleted some of my progress :(
Centross will be the last god, then some final lore/worldbuilding details, and we'll officially be done! See you soon (hopefully)!

Chapter Text

- Powers: polymorph (into a normal wolf, a wolf made of stars, and a werewolf-like creature [this is the one that goes feral and kills Martin])

- Prayed to: for success in battle and protection; by warriors of the End, any Enderman fighting to protect their loved ones, and the general population of the End

- Patron of Soldiers and Protectors

- 15th to ascend, 2nd End god

- Died trying to protect and then avenge their lover, Vikesh

- Originally known as “The Wolf”, a soldier for Fable’s army in the first war; already disillusioned with Fable’s tactics when they met Vikesh, one of Enderian’s top advisors/Speakers and the Royal Astronomer (a very important job in the End); fell in love and switched sides

  • Jerry actually switched sides along side him, living with his canonical Endermen sisters for a while in order to hide (he and Ocie were very sad to be apart, but it wasn't forever)
  • The Overworld armies made it to the castle and killed Vikesh; Wolf managed to drive back and kill the opposing side, eventually resulting in the truce, but Fable killed him before he could see the truce happen

- Jerry found him after ascending, but due to high emotions, Fenris transformed and hurt Jerry; Fenris ran away back to the Overworld to his family, but Fable burned down their kingdom/killed his family in revenge for his betrayal; Fenris then went into exile, staying as a wolf for so long that he forgot he was ever anything else

- While wandering as a wolf, he happened upon Momboo and Jamie and helped Jamie protect he forest, which is how the good/bad omen thing happened, and how Momboo named him Wolf; the villagers eventually chased him away

- Rae found him while on his own self-exile during the Warden arc; helped Rae be able to return home along with Centross

- Fenris still has the memory arc and the problems controlling his urges; Delta isn't really involved bc I couldn't think of a lore reason that would work, since they're mortal and dead lol

- Enderian was both grateful to have Rae returned to him and happy to have another god on her side; she built a temple for him, but Wolf insisted on being included in designing it

  • He ended up going overboard and built several businesses surrounding the temple; the temple was not a place of war, but a place of peace and, more importantly, protection; it is known as simply the Grove
  • This is often where the canon crew (Nature Fam, Banner Fam, etc) spend time together; Fenris and Rae came up with a name for their little group: the Lodestar Pantheon, based on the Lodestones they all use to find each other easily; eventually, the change The Grove into Lodestar Grove
  • Offerings of baked goods are the most common; fine weapons and armor are sometimes offered by soldiers and blacksmiths
  • Dogs and wolves start getting drawn from the Overworld to the Grove; they became a symbol for the army

- Wolf is viewed by the End the way Mars was viewed by the Romans: powerful, solemn, dangerous when provoked; however, the ever growing business district made up of, for example, a dog-themed cafe with silly drink names, somewhat tamper this image, so people don’t always know what to think of him; he is a new god after all- or rather, a newly discovered one

Chapter 28: Centross: God of Family

Summary:

Of course I would end this with my favorite character ;)

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

- Powers: partial necromancy (commune with the dead, make them visible/more tangible, can’t fully bring them back), seeing the bonds between people (c!Centross was actually able to see soul bonds in canon for a bit before he ascended)

- Prayed to: too recently ascended to have prayers, other than his friends and technically the souls

- Patron of Families and Emotional Bonds

  • Formerly known as the Reaper or the Violet Reaper; now known as The Shepard of Souls, just The Shepard, or simply Violet

- 24th (and last) to ascend, 4th (and last) End god

- Died attempting (and unfortunately failing) to protect Ic from Fable

- Originally part of a cult of Overworlders that follow Enderian instead of Epros

  • Enderian doesn’t approve but uses their loyalty to her advantage; Seven is sent by Fable to destroy the cult, leaving only Centross
  • Centross tried to blow up Momboo’s tree during Haley’s funeral by disguising himself and getting close with Icarus and Easton (the only Ominous Bane inclusion I could do lol), but Rae stopped him, captured him, and took him to the End; Fable proceeds to use this betrayal to further Ic’s hatred towards the End
  • Centross is in the cell for a while, being interrogated (and partially cared for) mostly by Rae, but also plenty of others (such as Alerion, who insisted on coming over to give him a dog, sensing his pain… Centross named her Hope); this is how he meets most of Lodestar Grove
  • When Rae goes into his exile/Warden arc, Caspian breaks Centross out of prison to go help Rae (he couldn’t go due to his injuries); this is where he meets Wolf; after this Enderian gives him a pardon in gratitude
  • Ic finds out about this and kidnaps Centross; Fable helps Ic keep him in the Gilded Kingdom’s dungeons; the arc basically plays out the same as canon

- Centross started killing people a lot earlier than in canon due to Seven killing his family a lot later on in the timeline; Centross swore revenge against the entire Gilded Kingdom due to Seven’s actions; he has a lot more souls…

- After his redemption arc, he creates Solstice as a resting place for the souls

- Eventually became friends with Ic (without Fable’s knowledge), which led to him dying to protect them

- Still ends up dating Ocie and Wolf

- Little to no effect on culture bc he’s so recent; later on though, I like to think he works to give respects to all those who died in the war and helping families move on from their loved ones; he becomes known by the Endermen as an honorary death/Aether god for the End

- No temples, but eventually gets one in Solstice

- As a human he was known as the Reaper, a violent and aggressive threat to all the realms, then as Rae’s advisor and Wolf’s lover; now, as a god, it is a common misconception to view him as a death god, but he is seen as a benevolent shepherd to both the souls of the dead and the families they left behind

Notes:

Guys Im emotional... this is the last god!
I have some more worldbuilding/plot stuff for the last few chapters, but we're basically done!
Thank you guys so much for following along for almost a year at this point. This will officially be my longest finished project.
Hopefully I should have some other stuff soon! I'm gonna be posting a Slay the Princess AU that I'm really proud of.
I'm not really sure fanfiction is for me, truly, but this has been so fun to experiment with and give you guys some lovely brainrot in the process lol
Seriously, thank you. This fandom taught me to create while ironically hating the god of creation (3
Just... thanks. For everything.
