i imagined this fic in 2021 before we knew who's going to space, that's why it doesn't match the original story ending. it doesn't have spoiler... i think, so everything will be ok. i'm not used to write in english so please be gentle with me.. also it's my first time posting here...

Work Text:

It was a fresh summer night, where the Moon shone brightly in whole of her glory, when they finally decided who was going to the space. Under the bonfire and the smell of alcohol, the Kingdom of Science celebrated the finalization of the rocket. Finally, it was finally over... well, almost. It was, after all, a whole life's work. After all the obstacles he went through, Senku is finally going to make his dream come through with Tsukasa and Ryusui. In the beginning, the scientist wasn't in favor of having a party before their departure, but knowing the circumstances, he gave up on his first idea. This event may be the last of our favorite trio, so it was difficult for him to keep refusing for too long anyway. Probably the last time where they could enjoy times with their relatives. Senku already regretted not spending as much time as he could with his father... he couldn't let Ryusui and Tsukasa do the same with their own families. While looking at them, his eyes became softer, and he showed a melancholic smile.

This comfortable mood didn't last long because less than 18 hours before the launch, the following day of the party, everyone was overwhelmed and started panicking for our astronauts. All of this joy and festive atmosphere made them forget about the challenge it was to let go of these three men in this rocket. Even though our scientist was happy to go and put on a facade full of confidence, his fingers were trembling. He couldn't stop stressing out... How not to be ? Even though he was the chief, he's still a human with emotions. His redish regard was shaking visibily, and he looked at every piece of the village.

... ? She's not here ?

Far away from the village, sitting on a cliff, Kohaku was watching the inhabitants panicking from where she was. A slight breeze ran through her hair, which made them move, and her eyes were full of souvenirs. All of these shared memories with the others... their struggles, their joys, their pains. All of these shared memories with him... She held back her tears. These tears she wanted to let go so badly, but she couldn't. She had to stay strong.
Nevertheless, she was scared... She was scared like everyone else. It may be the last time she could see all of them... the last time she could see him. Again, she thought about him. She didn't want to see them before they left, especially him... that's why she refused to go to the ceremony. She preferred to stay where she was. Far away from them and far away from him. Avoiding at all cost this regard that could break her...

Suddenly, she heard footstep behind her. She didn't pay attention enough to notice someone leaving the ceremony, so who could be behind her ? As a reflex, she took her daggers and drew it at the person's neck.

... Senku.

Smirking, he removed her weapons away from his neck to avoid having one's throat cut. She smiled back, feeling her heart tighten. Why was he here ? He was supposed to go. His rubis eyes met hers, and her heart got tighter even more. She wanted to avoid all of this... This regard was full of sadness he couldn't even hide a little bit. Why did he come to see her ?

"- What are you doing here, Senku ? she asked, concerned.
- I returned the question, he smirked again, why are you here ?
- I asked first though, she softly laughed while slightly tilting her head to the side.
- Because you weren't here, Lioness.
- You.... she was about to get angry but she calmed herself down, Do you wanna sit ?"

The blondie invited him to sit and admired the landscape in front of them with her. He sat next to her, looked at her, wanting to know why she decided to not go to the ceremony. He then saw her eyes shone and turned away his from her, looking around instead. He then saw the village not so far from them.

"- Oh... he softly laughed while turning back his eyes on Kohaku's, It's that cliff is it...
- You finally noticed uh... she shared a melancholic smile."

Their hearts started to beat fast again as their regard met again. The slight breeze kept go through their strands and thzir clothes, refreshing a bit the atmosphere. The fighter started again to rememeber their shared moments together. All of these years... All of these shared years. They laughed, they fought, they teased each other. All of this for several minutes. These comfortable feelings... All of these things that made their life better was about to end. Kohaku stopped herself, feeling her heart starting to beat fast again.

Right. It was about to end.

Senku looked at her, wondering if she was okay. Tears camed back into her marine eyes. Like rising waters in her sky blue eyes, the sadness came back. In a shaking voice, she said.

"I wish these moments could last forever..."

Turning back to him, tears in her eyes which disconcerted him. These eyes... His heart was now beating even more harder than before and he felt his own eyes getting wet. He sight. Why did she looked at him with this regard... This regard he was going to miss... He decided to give her a soft smile, a smile that he doesn't show often but with her.

"Yeah... me too..."

They shut up a moment, admiring the village next to eagh other, a slight breeze caressing their skin, a blurry vision with pearls of others silently following down their cheeks and his hand helding hers.
