Chapter Text
Chuuya’s breath came out in a cold flurry as he sat outside his home, the smoke from the cigarette blending into the cloud of air. His body felt heavy as he considered the thoughts running through his head, how he couldn’t stop the dreadful feeling of imposter syndrome creeping up his spine. How dare he allow himself to trick those around him? A monster like himself, one that’s even incapable of minute things such as dreaming, could never be considered a human. Why-
As he took another drag from the cigarette his thoughts were interrupted by Ranpo’s annoyed voice as his head peeked out from the window, “Hey! It’s cold out, why’re you out here moping!” He had his classic pout on his face as he looked down at Chuuya, waiting for him to come inside.
“I’ll come back inside in a moment, just let me finish this.” Chuuya replied with a tired voice, he knew trying to hide this from the detective would be a worthless effort by this point. Ranpo wasn’t having any of it as he whined at him to come inside where it was warm, purposely annoying him until Chuuya sighed and put out the cigarette before walking into the building. Ranpo instantly ambushed him with a hug, clinging to him with a smile.
Dazai, their other partner, was lazily sprawled out on the couch as he spoke with a playful grin, obviously trying to get under the redhead’s skin, “Heyy Chuuyaaaa, you were gone for soo long. What were you thinking about?”
There was a short pause as Chuuya’s expression grew serious and Ranpo noticed, instantly understanding what was going through his lover’s mind. “The answer is yes.”
“What?”
“The answer is yes, you are human. My ultra deduction is never wrong” Ranpo concluded as he opened his eyes to look at Chuuya seriously. His sparkling green eyes met Chuuya’s heterochromatic ones as he hugged him, a look of surprise and almost relief resounded in Chuuya’s expression as he heard this and the air felt both lighter and heavier at the same time for him. He struggled to accept that fact as he could feel tears welling up in his eyes as Ranpo hugged him tighter, as though he were a teddy bear.
Dazai stood up and joined the two in the hug, a playful smirk on his face as he decided to break the serious tension, “Yeah! How could anyone be so annoying and not be human?”
This resulted in Chuuya yelling at him and punching him in the shoulder, though it certainly brought down the tense atmosphere as Dazai laughed and continued to tease him, forcing the thoughts of doubt into the back of Chuuya’s mind.
By this point he was shoved into a hug between his two boyfriends and they were doing everything they could to prevent him from regressing back into his doubtful mindset. Dazai was making gentle jokes as Ranpo was stating things about Chuuya as if it were fact. "You two are damn idiots, you know that..” Chuuya stated quietly with a slight laugh, he sniffled and wiped the tears away, trying not to appear so vulnerable.
“Yup! But we’re your idiots, you’re stuck with us till death do us part!” Dazai quipped back as he still held a goofy smile on his face. Chuuya quietly groaned at this as Ranpo held back a muffled giggle.
“We aren’t even married…damn mackerel.”
Dazai just smirked as he grabbed Chuuya and playfully dipped him down, Ranpo had a cheeky smile on his face as he quickly ran off to his candy stash and started digging through it for something specific, eventually pulling out a ring pop and running back over. He unraveled the candy ring from its wrapper and placed it on Chuuya’s left ring finger. “Consider this a temporary ring while we find an actual one”
“Ahh, soo cute~ Maybe we should get you a wedding dress too Chuuyaaa”
Chuuya shoved Dazai’s gigging face away as he properly stood up and stared at the two of them with a bewildered expression filled with surprise and shock before quietly asking if they were serious over such a thing such as marriage. Dazai’s facial expression faded into a happy smile as he gently held Chuuya in his arms, his brown eyes shining brightly, “If I choose to marry anybody it would be you two. Can I count on a yes for our little candy ring proposal?”
Truthfully Chuuya hated showing vulnerability, he never cried around these two, if anything he always acted tough because letting your guard down is something that the Port Mafia can’t allow...but in this moment all he could do was stand there as tears flowed from eyes, too happy to process it as he stared at the silly and oversized candy on his finger. "I’d say it’s a yes,” Ranpo whispered quietly before placing gentle kisses on both Dazai and Chuuya’s cheeks.
How on Earth this went from one of Chuuya’s worst days to the best is beyond him, just this morning he woke up with the sinking feeling of dread, that imposter syndrome that always took hold of him..but now he was being embraced by two people that truly care for him, who love him despite his appeared failings. No longer was the doubt that clouded his mind present, he was able to think clearly and even happily about his situation. He smiled as he hugged the two of them tightly, whispering a response, “of course it’s a yes. Now let’s go find ourselves some rings”
