Work Text:

He couldn't feel anything but pain, his arm and upper back having gone numb ages ago, when? He doesn't have a clue, much too focused on his plan and Kaito.

He watched the metal inch closer to his face, a million thoughts going through his head. Even with all of the thoughts and worries clouding his mind, he was mainly worried about Kaito and if the plan would work.

The metal of the press touched his skin after what felt like a decade. It was cold, immediately replaced with excruciating pain. Time felt like it was frozen for the liar, he couldn't feel anything but his bones being crushed. He couldn't smell anything except for the horrid smell of blood before it completely crushed him, everything going black.

Until he opened his eyes to see himself still in the hangar. Why? He stood in front of the hydraulic press, everything looked the same before he went under besides Kaito not anywhere to be seen. He turned around, seeing —what he assumed to be— his blood splattered on the floor in front and on the hydraulic press, the sleeve of Kaito’s jacket sticking out just how he had left it before he had gone under the press.

Was he a ghost now? He quickly tested out by putting his hand against the hydraulic press, which went right through it. Huh, so he was a ghost now, interesting.

Looking around the hangar again, he could see the exisal he told Kaito to use still there, so he guessed it was safe to assume that the class trial or investigation hadn't started yet, hopefully.

After a moment of getting used to moving around as a ghost, he figured that he could float around as well, which felt really.. weird to do. Once he eventually got somewhat used to being able to fly—float?— he went over behind the exisal, peeking into the cockpit from the back, where he found Kaito looking at the controls. There wasn't much space in the exial, but it didn't really surprise him.

“I expected you to be dead.” He said quietly to himself, mostly jokingly, he didn't expect Kaito to hear him so he was caught off guard when Kaito let out a high pitch scream, followed by a coughing fit. “Oh shit, you can hear me?” The liar peeked over Kaito’s head, looking down at the astronaut.

“Wh-” The astronaut jumped, looking up once he somewhat calmed down. “W-What the fuck?!” He screamed, his face paler than a sheet of paper. “Aren't.. A-Aren't you-” He was quickly cut off by another coughing fit, blood splattering onto the control panel in front of the astronaut.

The liar went in front of Kaito, looking at the buttons on the control panel. “Y’know, I thought that too, nee-heehee!” He giggled, turning around to face Kaito. “But hey, you have someone to keep you company now!” The liar laughed, getting close to the —totally not scared— astronaut’s face.

The latter opened his mouth to speak, unfortunately interrupted for the millionth time by the body discovery announcement. They both looked out of the window of the exisal, seeing what remained of the group in front of the hydraulic press. “She doesn't look happy.” The liar said, pointing down to where the assassin stood in front of the hydraulic press, a displeased and upset expression on the brunette's face.

“Y-Yeah…” The astronaut replied after a moment, still a bit shaken up by the person he had just murdered not too long ago now in the form of a ghost in front of him, a ton of questions going through his mind at once, the fact that he could even see a ghost worried him but also made him quite fascinated as well. “Um..” He coughed into his elbow, confusion written on his face as he watched the group start investigating the scene. “How… are you..?” He looked back to the liar, who was watching a certain detective searching around the hydraulic press.

“How am I…??” He repeated, his head tilted as he looked back at Kaito. His back faced the astronaut, the arrow wounds on his back and arm clear to see. “Maybe I'm not even here and you've already gone insane!” He chuckled, poking Kaito’s cheek. To both of their surprise, his finger never went through his cheek.

The feeling of Kokichi's finger touching his face felt weird and cold, like a piece of ice was just put against his face, sending shivers down his spine. “Dude, y-you’re fucking fr-freezing!” He yelped, moving his head back, away from Kokichi.

To absolutely no one's surprise, the little prick —Kokichi— repeatedly poked Kaito for a good moment, in which the latter responded with annoyed grumbling, attempting to shove the liars hands away.

After a totally long time—definitely not 5 minutes— Kokichi sighed loudly. “This is borrrinnggg!!” He whined, crossing his arms as he leaned against the control panel. He let out a yelp as he fell through, scowling at the control panel as if it was the panel's fault for him falling through. “Waahh! Can you believe this? The machine is bullying me!!” He whined again, throwing his hand against his forehead for a more dramatic reaction, crocodile tears coming from his eyes.

“I.. How the fuck are you so- so calm about this?!!” The astronaut croaked out, staring at the supreme leader in bewilderment. “Y-You're… you're dead... and acting like it's.. like it's normal??!” He complained, trying to stay calm. “Just…” He paused, looking for the right words. “..How?? This-.. This shouldn't be possible? Ghosts aren't… Ghosts aren't real.” He said before chucking nervously.

The liar pouted, getting close to the astronaut's face. “Well, by the looks of it, they do exist, spaceman.” He leaned back before rolling his eyes. “And how the fuck am I supposed to know??”

“I don’t know!! Y-You're the ghost, not me?!”

“I haven't been a ghost before??”

“W-Well-!”

“You're dumb.”

“Am not!!”

“Are too!!”

They went back and forth with ‘am not’s and ‘are too’s for the next couple of minutes till the announcement for the class trial started. “Oh.” They both said in unison, in which Kokichi responded with a giggle, ‘sitting’ in Kaito's lap. “Wh- What are you doing-?!” The latter yelped in surprise, looking down at the ghost.

“Better not fuck this up spacemaannn!!!” He stuck his tongue out, blowing a raspberry up at Kaito's face.

“Dude, how the fuck are you so calm about this??!!” He groaned, eventually giving up after going back and forth with the leader for a while and headed to the class trial.
