Dante was always at least a little excited whenever the time for Walpurgis Night came around. It was interesting looking into what happened in the past, and getting their Sinners some powerful gear and maybe some new announcers was a welcome bonus. It fueled some odd sense of collecting, wanting to get each identity, each ego, each announcer, anything to complete their collection. They had all the Sephirah now, and now they had even gotten to pull for the manager of the old corporation! It was exciting, maybe the old manager would have some sort of advice to help them through this new job of theirs.
But no.
We just can’t have nice things, can we?
When they tried to equip just the former manager, Hokma also automatically became selected. No matter what they did, they couldn’t just have it be one without the other. Sigh . Ok. Maybe it’ll be fine, maybe the tablet is just experiencing some issues, they’ll ask Faust about it later. They’re already prepared to head into the Mirror Dungeon, so it’d be stupid to back out now over such a minor issue.
But now, Dante really wishes they had backed out and gotten it fixed.
“Are you seeing this, Hokma? I could out-manage this guy in my sleep!”
“Indeed, Sir Ayin.”
Their hands tightened around their tablet. It had been like this for the entire dungeon. And the tablet hadn’t even let them switch announcers, is this what hell feels like? At least the announcers never show up, but… They looked to the space behind them. There the two of them were, sitting in beach chairs dressed like they just got back from some tropical vacation, floral button-ups and all.
“Eyes to yourself, manager! Don’t look at me like that!”
Dante turned their head away. Was the former Lobotomy Corporation manager really this… Obnoxious? Based on the preview voice lines, they had expected someone more… Mature. Composed. Put-together. A man of few words. But this? Dante almost feels scammed, and they're really starting to want their spent Lunacy back.
“If I was the one managing, this fight would be over already! Hey, Hokma, remember that time when we had to suppress you? You know what happened? Nooooobody died! ”
"Indeed. It was quite impressive, Sir Ayin, when I came to my senses I expected there to be a lot more bloodshed. You were quite the pause-happy manager, but you were able to hold yourself back.”
“I know! But look, look, that pony-tail having one is all staggered! That wouldn’t have happened if I was managing! You know, I managed the suppression of White Night and Apocalypse Bird all on my own! This is like, what, WAW tier or something? It's so easy, I could do it with my hands behind my back and while not even looking!”
< IF YOU’RE SO GOOD AT MANAGING, THEN DO IT YOURSELF! > Dante ticked angrily, they wanted to turn around and throw the tablet at the former manager, maybe hit him in the head with it and knock some sense into him.
…
Is this how Vergilius feels when he has to deal with everyone on the bus? Dante is really, really starting to understand the guide now. At least the fight was almost over and they’d be through with the dungeon, they tried to tune out the heckling as much as they could and just focus on getting it done. Why, why did they decide to do a hard run?
Man. They should’ve just gone and done some thread luxcavation or something instead… Yeesh.
