Memories 🌕

Summary:

Just Anna and the old marsh house

Notes:

Just a short story I came up with when I couldn't get to sleep one night.

Work Text:

Anna was running again, from what, she knew not. She let's out a grunt of determination as she jumps over a particularly large inlet to the marsh island to the other side. Hands reaching blindly out as she scrambles up another marsh hill. There, in the dimming evening light, she spies the old marsh house, beginning to turn on it's antique lanterns and lights. It had always amazed Anna, for she knew no one lived there anymore, yet here she was, standing in the cool evening breeze that had picked up with the setting sun, feet firmly planted on the marsh bank, witnessing this unexplainable, strange, dreamlike view. She stands there, just like that, until when, she's not sure. All she knows is that now the crickets and night animals have begun to waken to life to reclaim what, in the harsh bright light of the sun, they were unable to partake in. The tide, a tempestuous mistress, was out tonight, so Anna sat on the grassy bank. No worries of being trapped by the marsh on her mind. Casting out her eyes yet again to the house, the old marsh house is just that again, old and empty. A lone tear slides down her weary face, why, she knows not, but feels that long, long ago, there must have been a reason.
