Because my ideas have changed for the beginning, I am rewriting this book. I have better ideas. I do hope people will like the new version.
-------- Ice Changes the Story --------
“Shit. Shit. Fuck!” Toshiro coughed up a worrying amount of blood. He sits up, his entire body aching. His stomach was pouring out blood as there was a wooden spike into his wound. He leaned against the rubble which was a wall. His dull turquoise eyes took in the destruction of the Seireitei.
The air crackled with residual reiryoku (1) , heavy with the scent of copper and smoke. The once proud building of the Gotei 13 lays in ruins, their elegant structures reduced to crumbling facades amidst a sea of ashes and rubble.
Columns of smoke rose into the sky, casting dark shadows over the once bright and pale streets of the Seireitei. The sounds of crackling flames, haunting reminders of the fierce conflict that raged through the heart of Soul Society.
Everywhere he looked, there were signs of chaos and destruction. The towering spires of the Seireitei had been reduced to the twisted wreckage, their once gleaming surface now blackened and scorched by the fires of war. The streets were littered with fallen bodies, both ally and foe, their still forms serving as silent witnesses to the carnage that had unfolded.
Toshiro felt a surge of anger, hatred and regret welling within him. This was his home, his responsibility, and it was destroyed. Everyone around him was killed off. Every Shinigami and Soul was killed. Killed by a traitor, a traitor that was sealed away in Muken.
Sosuke Aizen had returned and attacked when no one was prepared, no survivors, only Toshiro had survived. Toshiro gets up, stumbling around. His breathing, heavy and rough.
His pure white hair, usually clean styled, now hung limp and matted against his forehead, darkened by sweat and the grime of battle, stained with crimson. Bruises marred the smooth surface of his skin, their angry hues contracting starkly against the pallor of his complexion.
Toshiro’s breathing was shallow and ragged, each inhalation a struggle against the weight of his injuries. Despite his efforts to remain stoic, occasional grimaces of pain betrayed the intensity of his suffering, his hands clenched tightly at his sides.
He stumbled through the wreckage of the Seireitei, each step felt like an arduous journey through a nightmare. His usually composed demeanour was shattered, replaced by a dishevelled figure whose every moment was plagued by the searing pain of his injuries. Blood not only seeped from his stomach wound, but from multiple injuries, it was a miracle that he is still breathing, especially moving. Blood seeped from numerous wounds, staining his once pristine captain’s uniform. Parts of his body frozen and some parts going blue.
Due to low reiryoku, his body was suffering from hyperthermia. His body went numb with every step but Toshiro was determined to find someone alive.
Around him, the once proud structures of the Seireitei lay in ruins, their shattered remains a stark testament to the ferocity of the battle that had raged through the Soul Society. The air was thick with the unpleasant stench of smoke and the sickening scent of death, a grim reminder of the devastation that had befallen his home.
With each stumbling step, Toshiro’s strength decreased further, his body protesting against the strain of his injuries. He stumbled over fallen rubble, his movement unsteady and erratic as he fought to keep himself upright. Each breath was a struggle, the weight of his solitude bearing down upon him like a crushing burden.
As he wandered through the desolation, Toshiro's mind was consumed by a sense of overwhelming despair. Where once there had been bustling streets filled with the laughter of his comrades, there was now only silence and emptiness. He was alone, the sole survivor amidst the ruins of his once proud home.
Memories flashed through his mind, fleeting glimpses of faces long gone, voices silenced by the merciless tide of war. His heart ached with grief for the fallen, for the friends and comrades who fought alongside him and now lay cold and lifeless in the rubble.
Toshiro collapsed against the once powerful building of the 1st Division. The Soutaichou (2) , Shunsui Kyoraku, and Co-Fukutaichous (3) , Nanao Ise and Genshiro Okikiba, lay a few feet away from Toshiro, completely slaughtered without a second thought.
Tears fell down the once proud genius, which froze over when they hit the ground. Toshiro was all alone. No one was around.
As Toshiro sat against the wreckage of the 1st Division, the world around him began to tremble as if the fabric of existence itself was unravelling. The ground beneath him shook violently, sending showers of the rubble to fall around him like rain.
In the distance, he could see the skies darkening, clouds swirling ominously as the boundaries between the three worlds began to blur and distort. The once stable equilibrium that had held the World of the Living, the Soul Society, and Hueco Mundo in balance was crumbling, torn apart by the chaos and destruction wrought by the battles.
Toshiro’s heart dropped with dread as he watched the world he had sworn to protect unravel before his eyes. He knew that if the balance was not restored, the consequences would be catastrophic, spelling doom not only for Soul Society but for all existence.
Amidst the chaos, a rift tore open in the sky, like a garganta but not a garganta, a gaping maw of darkness that seemed to swallow the very essence of reality itself. From within its depths emerged a figure shrouded in darkness, a being of unimaginable power whose very presence sent shivers down Toshiro’s spine.
As the figure drew closer, Toshiro’s breath caught his throat. This was no ordinary person, this was the Soul King, the God that held the worlds together. But now, in the aftermath of destruction, even the mighty ruler of the Soul Society seemed powerless to stop the cataclysm that threatened to consume everything in its path.
As the Soul King walked out of the rift, their appearance was shown. Toshiro found himself struck by not only the immense power radiating from the being but also by its striking appearance. The Soul King was a vision of ethereal beauty and power, his features sculpted with an otherworldly elegance that seemed to defy mortal comprehension.
His regal countenance was framed by flowing locks of celestial silverish blonde, cascading around him like a shimmering cloak. Eyes as deep and unfathomable as the night sky regarded Toshiro with a mixture of wisdom and sorrow, their gaze piercing the chaos with an otherworldly intensity.
Every movement of the Soul King seemed to carry with it an aura of majesty and grace, as if it were a being not bound by the laws of mortal existence but rather a force of nature unto themself. Their presence commanded respect and reverence, inspiring awe in all who beheld him.
Though their form was cloaked in robes of the purest white, they seem to shift and shimmer like the surface of a distant galaxy, hinting at the boundless power that lay dormant within them. It was as if they were a living embodiment of the cosmos itself, a being of infinite potential and unfathomable depths.
Yet, despite their awe-inspiring appearance, there was a profound sadness that seemed to linger around the Soul King, a weight of responsibility that no mortal could ever hope to comprehend. For he was not merely a ruler or a deity but rather the linchpin that held the very fabric of reality together, burdened with the weight of the countless worlds and the lives that inhabited them.
The Soul King walked over to Toshiro, stepping over the bodies of the fallen warriors who sacrificed themselves in order to protect the Soul Society. The golden eyes of the King stared deeply into his turquoise eyes.
“ Hitsugaya-Taichou (4).” The Soul King spoke, their voice heavenly with a mixture of both male and female. The Soul King was a being where gender was not known as a male or female can take the role of the Soul King.
“Y-Your Majesty.” Toshiro spoke in surprise as he went to move to bow but the hands of the Soul King stopped him. “ Do not move Hitsugaya-Taichou, you have sustained multiple heavy injuries to be moving recklessly .”
Toshiro swallowed the sickening mixture of saliva and blood in his throat. “I apologise for failing to protect the Soul Society.” The Soul King sighs softly as they glance around the area, the crumbling world of the Soul Society, knowing that the World of the Living, Hueco Mundo, Hell and the Soul King Realm are doing the exact same thing as the Soul Society is doing.
“ Do not blame yourself, Hitsugaya-Taichou. No one saw this coming. The one to blame is Sosuke Aizen .” The Soul King took a deep breath. “ But we don’t have time to waste about the situation. The worlds are collapsing, including the Soul King Realm .” Their voice serious.
“ The threads of fate have been fried, and the very fabric of reality is in jeopardy. ” Toshiro closed his eyes in anguish and sadness. “Is there anything we can do, your majesty?”
“ There is one thing .” The Soul King spoke, healing Toshiro’s wounds. “ There is a power that every Soul King before me has kept sealed away in the Soul King Realm .” Toshiro blinked in surprise, his jaw dropping slightly.
“Such power exists?” The Soul King nodded, helping Toshiro up onto his feet.
“ A power that goes beyond my power as the Soul King, every Soul King has put a tiny amount of power into the seal .” They said, holding Toshiro’s freshly healed shoulder and teleported the both of them to the Soul King Realm.
The realm itself, where time itself seemed to stand still and the very essence of existence hung in delicate balance, the signs of decay were unmistakable. What was once a place of serene tranquillity and boundless potential now on the brink of collapsing, its once pristine halls now echoing with the ominous rumble of impending doom.
The Soul King guided Toshiro to a secure location, hidden in the clouds. In front of them is a mysterious door.
The door loomed tall and imposing, its surface weathered by the passage of countless ages yet still radiating an aura of undeniable power. Runes danced across its surface like flickering flames, their luminescent glow casting eerie shadows that seemed to writhe and twist with a life of their own.
“ This, Hitsugaya-taichou, is the last solution to saving our worlds .” The Soul King said, putting their hand on the door which the runes glowed upon impact. Toshiro took one look at the door, instantly feeling the tremendous power radiating from the door. “W-What is it?” Toshiro asked, feeling intimidated.
“ This is the last resolve, the back up plan that every Soul King has powered since the beginning of time .” The Soul King commented, their golden eyes glancing at the door before returning to the child-turned-adult. “ A forbidden power only to be used in times such as these. ”
The Soul King smirked slightly as their golden eyes glowed, showing the power that still remains. “ Toshiro Hitsugaya, not only as the Soul King but as someone who was a normal soul such as yourself, I would like for you to come with me. ”
“Go with you, to where?!” Toshiro asked, not understanding what the Soul King was asking of him. “ To the past. ” The Soul King commented.
Toshiro’s world froze as his jaw dropped. “T-To the p-past? What do you mean?!”
“ This door, Hitsugaya-taichou, is a portal to travel through time. It was invented by the first Soul King million of years ago. It is an absolute emergency solution, one that can never be reversed. ” The Soul King explained the seriousness of the plan. “ I can’t exactly be in the Soul Society in the past but I can have someone like you sent there. But there will be risks- ”
“I don’t care about the risks! The worlds are collapsing, if we waste anymore time, we are doomed! If there is anything I can do, your Majesty, I will do it in a heartbeat!” Toshiro interrupted the Soul King, very serious and confident of his decision.
The Soul King closed their eyes for a moment before nodding. “
Once you go to the past, there is no return to the present.
” The Soul King gave one more warning which Toshiro nodded in an understanding.
The Soul King nodded before turning to the door and opening it before walking through the door with Toshiro following. Once the two walked in, the doors slammed shut before shattering into many pieces.
As Toshiro walked through the darkness, he felt power merging with him, tremendous power. He almost collapsed from the heaviness if it weren’t for the Soul King grabbing him in time.
“ Be careful, Hitsugaya-Taichou. If you fall, you’ll forever be lost. ” The Soul King warned the prodigy. “R-Right.” Toshiro gasped out. The Soul King sighed and decided to explain further.
“ What you are feeling is the power of every Soul King in existence. Half of the power that has ever been transferred to the door is now being merged into your body. ” The Soul King started to explain more. “ Do not worry, Hitsugaya-taichou. Your body won’t rip apart. Unlike it would have if you used your adult form before you were meant to. ”
Toshiro followed, unaware that his adult form is reverting back to his child form. “It won’t?” “ No, it won’t. I will be in the Soul King Realm, monitoring you and the balance. Although…. When you get to the past, I will have to order Squad Zero to not kill you and to take care of hollows. ” They sighed. “ Your powers will be held back to prevent more damage to your child body .”
Toshiro glanced down to see that his form is now a child. He sighed and nodded. “Understandable.”
“ Just know, Hitsugaya-taichou, your body will have the power of your previous self and what you do with your new self, the Soul King’s power you have in your body prevents your body from ripping apart, that’s the only reason why the power will stay in your body. ” The Soul King warned him. “ And another thing you should know… ”
Toshiro looked at them, in anticipation as to what the Soul King would say. “ Your body in this new timeline will be destroyed by your presence .” Toshiro blinked in surprise before nodding. “That makes sense.”
----------------
Toshiro walked out of the glowing portal and saw that he was in a familiar, but unfamiliar, forest. He instantly knew he was in the past. He glanced down and saw that he was in a greenish-blue kimono with no shoes on.
“I’m in the Rukongai, district 1, Junrinan. I’m home.” Toshiro spoke to himself, smiling softly.

Chapter two people!!!
-------- Ice Changes the Story --------
In the depths of the Rukongai, where those who are not Shinigami or a part of the Noble families live, a palpable tension hung in the air. Since Toshiro’s arrival, the Seireitei has been on high alert for days, if not weeks, their senses attuned to any anomaly in the spiritual realm. One night, the Thirteen Division had been set to patrol an area in District 2 in the West Rukongai, Dragon.
Dragon is a District where the people within believe in the legends of the Heavenly Guardian and how Hyorinmaru was his partner. The district was named in the honour of the Heavenly Guardian, it was one of the very few districts that did not hate on Shinigami.
Further away from his squad members, Jushiro Ukitake was patrolling alone a little further away from the district, in between District 2 and 3. His frail form moved through the dark grass, guided by the bright moonlight. Each footstep crunched against the grass, occasion twig, and mud. But as he continued, his illness had other plans.
A sudden wave of dizziness washed over him as he started coughing up blood, his vision blurring at the edges. Jushiro stumbled, his hand instinctively reached out to steady himself against the rough and lumpy textures of a nearby tree. His breath came in ragged gasps, the weight of his sickness bearing down upon, his lungs tightening from the lack of oxygen from coughing so much.
As soon as he landed on the grass, unconscious, a pair of feet came up to Jushiro.
-------------------
As consciousness slowly returned to him, Jushiro found himself enveloped in a warmth that seemed to seep into his aching bones. Blinking groggily, he attempted to focus himself, his senses gradually coming back into focus. The soft crackle of a nearby fire danced in the air, casting a flickering glow across the small, intimate space that surrounded him.
His eyes drifted across the room, taking in the humble surroundings of the makeshift hut. It was a place where boundaries blurred effortlessly; the boundaries between a bedroom, seating area, and kitchen melded seamlessly into one another. Yet, despite its simplicity, there was an undeniable charm to the space, a homely ambiance that whispered of comfort and solace.
Lying on a soft futon, Jushiro shifted slightly, feeling the cool touch of a small bag of ice resting gently against his burning forehead. He noted the careful arrangement of his surroundings-the crackling fire casting a warm glow, the cosy proximity of his resting place to the hearth, a silent guardian against the chill of the night.
“Where… Am I?” Jushiro croaked out, confused about where he was. He thought he was hallucinating as he couldn’t sense anyone.
Suddenly a voice spoke up, cold and young. “You shouldn’t move, you’ll only make yourself feel even more shit than you do right now.”
Jushiro’s turquoise eyes shot straight to where the voice is. He blinked in surprise when he noticed someone at the kitchen, cutting up some fresh herbs at the kitchen counter.
The person was a child. From Jushiro’s view from the back, the child has the purest white hair, more white than his own, spiky and messy yet it looked so soft, like a fluffy pile of snow. The view of the skin was sun-kissed, like the child has been outside in the sun for too long. Hanging on his slim and small body was a dull purple kimono, the fabric thin and loose, the sleeves were long gone. As the child turned his head to the side to look back at Jushiro, Jushiro felt a cold pierce through his soul. The eyes of the child were the same colour, turquoise, but the emotions of the eyes were different. Cold, very cold like ice, Jushiro could tell by gazing into the child’s eyes that the child has been through a lot, but there was something about the child that made Jushiro’s hairs stand on his arms and the back of his neck.
He couldn’t tell what it was but his instincts told him that the child was not who he seems to portray himself as. However, Jushiro being the soft-hearted man he is to children, he put on a soft smile and sat up slightly, removing the small bag of ice off his forehead.
“Hello there.” Jushiro said, politely. The child nodded. “You shouldn’t move much, otherwise you’ll collapse again from your fever.”
“Do you live alone, little one?” Jushiro asked, noticing that there were belongings that belonged to the child. “Yeah.” The child simply said, looking back at the herbs before he scooped them up with the knife and his hand to put in the pot of stew he had set on a smaller fire he had created in the kitchen.
“I found you unconscious close to my hut. I dragged you here so no monsters can harm you.” The child spoke up. Jushiro blinked in surprise. “You dragged me here? But you seem so-” “Weak and tiny?” The child finished. “They do say looks can be deceiving.”
“I could have left you out there if you’re that ungrateful, Shinigami.” The child stubbornly said. “None of your subordinates were close by, so your illness would’ve gotten a lot worse.”
Jushiro just sighed, the soft smile still remained. “Thank you then, little one.” The child poured the soup into a small bowel. “My name isn’t ”‘little one” , it’s Toshiro Hitsugaya.”
Jushiro’s eyes lit up. “Our names are quite similar, Hitsugaya-kun.” His smile grew. “My name is Jushiro Ukitake. It’s nice to meet you, Hitsugaya-kun.”
Toshiro smiled slightly, his memories of the Ukitake from his timeline before Ukitake died ran through his head. “He’s still the same man he was before he died. That’s a relief.” Toshiro thought before his smile dropped. He picked the bowel up and a cup of herbal tea. He walked over to Jushiro and placed the bowel and cup onto the coffee table next to the futon. “It’s nice to meet you too, Ukitake-san.”
Jushiro watched Toshiro, concentrating on the child’s reiryoku. Within an instant, Jushiro could feel his inner world freezing over but in reality, it wasn’t. Toshiro’s reiryoku was so cold, so icy, and powerful, a seated officer's level of power. Jushiro couldn’t believe it.
The power within Toshiro’s body was a power that should not be left unsupervised. However, Jushiro could sense that the reiryoku wasn’t uncontrolled like every soul with the same power as Toshiro has.
Jushiro’s eyes widened before narrowing. “His reiryoku is so icy and powerful. It should be impossible for a normal soul like him to have this power and not destroy the environment around him. It’s similar to a seated officer but I can sense that the reiryoku he has on show is not his full power. He’s more powerful than he lets on. A truly dangerous individual, even as a child, he is more powerful than most Shinigami who have trained their entire life. The main question is… How hasn’t anyone pin-pointed his reiryoku before this moment?” Jushiro was in deep thought as he drank the soup Toshiro made for him.
Toshiro noticed the thoughtful expression on the Thirteenth Division Captain’s face and frowned before he smirked in a hidden way. “He’s figuring out my reiryoku. Not surprised considering who he is. I’ve missed this, missed speaking to Ukitake-Taichou. It’s been far too long since I last had a chat with him… before the war with Yhwach.” He thought before he sat on a cushion.
Toshiro glanced at Jushiro. “How are you feeling, Ukitake-san?” Toshiro asked, snapping Jushiro out of his thoughts. Jushiro blinked for a few seconds before smiling warmly. “Much better. I apologise for taking up your time and space. Although… I am surprised none of my subordinates came to find me.”
Toshiro hummed and rested his elbows on his knees to support his head. “That would be because of the barrier I have set up.” Toshiro commented, surprising Jushiro. “Barrier?” Jushiro repeated. Toshiro nodded. “When I arrived at the Soul Society and began to travel here to Dragon, I saw a handwritten Kido Barrier book on the floor and decided to read and practice.” Toshiro shrugged, scratching the back of his head. He was hiding the truth behind a harmless lie.
“A handwritten Kido Barrier book?” Jushiro repeated as he looked down at the soup. “Do you still have the book?”
“Nope. It got caught in a fire when I accidentally burnt down my previous home.” Toshiro backed his lie up.
Jushiro’s eyes travelled to Toshiro’s eyes to see if he was telling the truth. However, Toshiro's cold, emotionless mask has made it impossible for Jushiro to read Toshiro’s emotions. Jushiro didn’t like that he couldn’t read the child’s emotions, it made a chill run down his spine. He couldn’t blame his illness for this, there was something about Toshiro that made Jushiro believe that Toshiro is far different than any soul is, Shinigami or not.
The two Shiros stared at each other for a couple of moments before Jushiro sighed and looked down at his lap in thought. “He is far too dangerous to be left alone. His power is raw but very controlling. Has he been training but how long has he been here? Too many questions about this child but it won’t get answered, the look in his eyes tells me he won’t give me an honest answer. Hitsugaya… He is not normal, his eyes show horror far beyond his physical age. Then again, physical age proves nothing. Shunsui and I are roughly a thousand years old, even Unohana-Taichou is much older than she looks…. Could it be the same for Hitsugaya? It must be.” Jushiro closed his eyes.
“His control, the Kido I can now sense around the small hut, the Reiryoku I can barely sense inside him, the iciness around his body, and the intelligence I can see in his eyes. I can’t believe that a simple patrol like this, would have become a meeting of a being that comes every century.” Jushiro thought before looking back at Toshiro.
“Hitsugaya-kun, have you ever thought about becoming a Shinigami?” Jushiro asked. Toshiro hummed, nonchalantly. “Would they accept me? I’m a child.” Jushiro smiled slightly at Toshiro’s down-to-earth question.
“You do have a point but we have special cases for people like you.” Jushiro said, making Toshiro huff in amusement, the words brought back a few memories of when Rangiku tried getting him to go to the Shineoreijutsuin. “Alright then, I accept.” Toshiro grinned, making Jushiro slightly confused.
“You agreed, just like that?” Jushiro asked. Toshiro shrugged and stood up. “I wanted to head to the Shineoreijutsuin someday. So this makes it easier.”
“I see…”
-------------------
Toshiro had sat at his desk, staring outside the window. “This feels so familiar…” Toshiro muttered to himself, remembering his academy days with Kusaka. It has been a few months since Toshiro entered the Shineoreijutsuin and he is now in his final year. He joined the academy half-way through the year but has already made a record in history of being the fastest to graduate. “Just like before.” Toshiro thought, as he could hear his new classmates talk about him behind his back.
“Oi! Oi! Quit ya yabbering!” A loud, energetic voice broke through Toshiro’s thoughts. Toshiro blink in surprise, looking over to see a person he never heard of.
The person was at least 6 feet, probably taller. He was a dark-skinned, muscular individual. White spiky hair, just like Toshiro’s but a shade darker than Toshiro’s, which goes down to the individual’s shoulder and a plait was covering his right ear. Strikingly familiar golden eyes, a lot like Yoruichi Shihouin’s eye colour. The guy was wearing the boy’s academy uniform; the uniform is similar to the standard Shinigami Shihakusho uniform, but with a different colour scheme. He was wearing a blue shitagi, a white kosode with blue stripes, blue hakama, white socks and black sandals, on the kosode is a black circular symbol on both pectorals. Dangling down his ears are two golden rectangular shaped earrings.
“Shihouin-sama!” The class members exclaimed in shock, standing up straight. The guy grinned and glanced over at Toshiro. “Looks like we have a new member!” He cheerfully stated. “Yusuke, give the guy a break.” Another voice from behind the golden-eyed guy, now named Yusuke.
Yusuke glanced behind him and smirked. “Sojun, I wasn’t aware you were coming in today, I thought the Kuchikis had a ceremony or something.” The voice, Sojun, shrugged. “I am still a student, it wouldn’t look good on the Kuchiki name if I ditched my responsibilities as a future Shinigami.”
Sojun was a 5 '9 1⁄2, 177cm, guy. He was a light-skinned, thin individual. Black shoulder length hair, which was neatly combed and his bangs pushed from his face, clipped around his fringe on the left side of his head is a single Kenseikan. His eyes reminded Toshiro of Rukia’s eye colour, bluish purple eyes. Sojun was wearing the same outfit as Yusuke is.
Next thing Toshiro knew, Yusuke was right in front of Toshiro’s desk, his hand grabbing Toshiro’s chin. Toshiro’s eyes widened for a split second before narrowing. Golden stared into turquoise for a good moment. Sojun watched from the side, face-palming as he sighed. Yusuke then grinned and patted Toshiro’s head.
“Wow, you must be the famous Toshiro Hitsugaya everyone has been talking about. You’re the talk of not only the Shineoreijutsuin but the Gotei 13, the taichous are talking non-stop about you.” Yusuke grinned. “Huh?” Was all that Toshiro said, which annoyed Yusuke. “Don’t say ‘huh’! You should be at least complimented! What you have achieved in three months is nothing that anyone has ever seen!” Yusuke said, messing Toshiro’s hair, digging his knuckles playfully into Toshiro’s skull.
“Fuck off!” Toshiro scowled, slapping Yusuke’s hand away and pulling his chin away from Yusuke’s grip. Instead of being insulted, Yusuke grinned amused. “I like ya spirit, Toshiro. You’re definitely nothing like anyone from the Rukongai.”
Yusuke then pointed at himself with a grin. “My name is Yusuke Shihouin, the heir of the Shihouin Clan, it’s nice to meet you!” “Um… It’s a pleasure to meet you, Shihouin-san.” Toshiro said, unsure as to what to say.
Yusuke was quiet for a moment before a tic mark appeared on his face. “The hell did you call me?” Sojun sighed and whacked Yusuke around the head. “Leave the new guy alone, Yusuke, you’re scaring him.” Sojun sighed before looking at Toshiro with a soft smile.
“Sorry about him, Hitsugaya-san. It’s in his family’s nature to drop formalities and be casual to anyone.” Sojun said, knocking Yusuke down to the ground. “Oi, Sojun!” Yusuke cried out before falling down the stairs. Sojun chuckled softly and held his hand out to Toshiro.
“My name is Sojun Kuchiki, heir of the Kuchiki Clan, it’s a pleasure to meet you, Hitsugaya-san.” Sojun politely smiled. Toshiro hummed and nodded, taking Sojun’s hand to shake. “It’s a pleasure, Kuchiki-san.”

Chapter Text
Toshiro stood in the middle of the training field in the academy. This training field was for Zanjutsu classes only. Toshiro was leaning against the wall of the school building as he had a break. He could see everyone in his class relaxing or goofing around. He looked to his side and saw Sojun next to him.
“Kuchiki-sama.” Toshiro greeted the older student. Sojun smiled at Toshiro. “Good morning, Hitsugaya-san. How are you?” Toshiro blinked in slight surprise.
As he was familiar with the Kuchiki family from the future, he knew how cold the noble members are towards anyone outside of their family. He knew from experience how cold Byakuya used to be before Ichigo had beaten the crap out of him after saving Rukia from execution. So to see a Kuchiki member, especially the heir, being so kind and polite, really throws Toshiro off.
“I… uh… I’m fine.” Toshiro said, looking away. Sojun smiled softly. “You’re really amazing, Hitsugaya-san.” He said. Toshiro glanced at Sojun, curious to know why. “What do you mean?”
“You’ve only been in the academy for three months now and you’re progressing faster than anyone ever has. Your Zanjutsu skills are more advanced than even the teachers. Your kidou is more powerful than even the top students. Your hoho and Shunpo are amazingly fast, and not to mention your Reiatsu control is even more amazing. You have perfect control over your large amounts of Reiatsu, it’s amazing the hold you have. The only thing you are struggling with is Hakuda.” Sojun said, complimenting him.
Toshiro rubbed the back of his neck. “Hand-to-hand combat is something I’ve never gotten the grasp on.”
“I could help you.” Another voice butted in the conversation making the other two look. Yusuke had walked over to the two. “Yusuke.” Sojun nodded. Toshiro frowned upon seeing the Shihouin heir. “What do you want?” He rudely asked, which made the dark-skinned student laugh.
“I want to offer my help to you, Toshiro.” Yusuke grinned. “The Shihouin family excels in Hakuda, we lead the Onmitsukido and the 2nd Division, so I am more than skilled to help guide you!”
Toshiro huffed and crossed his arms. “And why would I accept help from an extremely energetic guy like you?” He asked. Sojun chuckled awkwardly. “Hitsugaya-san, he’s not that bad when you get to know him.” Toshiro frowned even more.
“Even if I did accept, what do you want in return?” Toshiro asked. Yusuke frowned before chuckling. “I want to be your friend, Toshiro.” Toshiro’s eyes widened in surprise at his words. “Friend? You want me to be your friend? Why? I am not a noble, nor do I come from any of the middle class families in the Soul Society, I’m a commoner.”
Yusuke smiled. “The Shihouin family don’t care. We’re a family who values friendship and bonds. Without them, we don’t have any will to protect or fight. The more friends I have, the more I can train to fight and protect.”
Toshiro was stunned by this and looked down. It did make sense, Yoruichi had left the Seireitei when Kisuke was exiled and even helped save Rukia when she broke into the Soul Society to help and train Ichigo. “Nobles are so weird.” Toshiro thought.
“ Master, just accept the Shihouin heir’s proposal. It will do you good to be an expert in Hakuda, especially if something happens like you losing me like you did in the Quincy Invasion .” Toshiro heard Hyorinmaru speak in his voice. He sighed heavily. He didn’t want to lose Hyorinmaru like he had done during the invasion. Sure, he went back to the basics but in the end, he lost and got turned into a Zombie which then prompted Mayuri into experimenting on him to return him back into a Shinigami.
“Fine, I accept.” Toshiro sighed, accepting Yusuke’s offer. Yusuke grinned widely. “Great! We can start after school!” He said excitedly. Sojun sighed and shook his head. “You can’t do that, Yusuke.” Yusuke then looked confused. “Why not?” “Because there’s a Shihouin and Kuchiki meeting this evening and we both have to be there.” Sojun reminded Yusuke, which made Yusuke’s mood do a 180. Toshiro rolled his eyes and shook his head. “Seems like this is a common trait in the Shihouin Family.” He thought.
Outside the Shihouin manor, Toshiro and Yusuke were sparring in one of the training fields. Yusuke has been training Toshiro for the entire day. It had been a few days since Yusuke offered Toshiro to help with his Hakuda training, Toshiro was winded by the end of the session. He had never had the need to train in Hakuda, he was always so great at Zanjutsu that he had no desire to learn Hakuda but he now can see how Hakuda can come in handy, especially if Toshiro loses his Zanpakuto.
Looking back on his fighting style, he realised how messed up his style was. He spammed Bankai every chance he could to get an advantage over the battlefield. It was so pathetic for a captain to spam Bankai in every battle when things got hard.
Now, he’s gone back in time, he can finally change his fighting ways. This time he won’t be weak. This time he’ll be stronger. This time he won’t make a fool of himself. He is no longer the weak little captain, he is now the guardian of the future as a time traveller. He is-
“You good, Toshiro?” Yusuke’s voice snapped Toshiro out of his thoughts and made him look up from his seated position. “Y-Yeah, I just got lost in thought for a moment.” He said, blushing slightly in embarrassment. Yusuke saw the blush and grinned. “Well, it’s time for dinner. How about you join me and my family before you head back to the Shineoreijutsuin?” He offered, not mentioning the embarrassment, although he is known for teasing his friends.
“Are you sure I won’t intrude?” Toshiro asked. Yusuke just smiled widely. “Nah, plus my parents want to meet my new friend!” Toshiro just sighed before getting dragged into the Shihouin manor by his new friend.
“He reminds me so much of Yoruichi-san, I wonder...”
After eating dinner with the Shihouins, Toshiro was back in his dorm at the Shineoreijutsuin.
The room was spacious. If he had started at the beginning of the year, Toshiro would have a roommate but he doesn’t due to joining so late and speeding through the academic years in a few months. The walls were a cream colour and the floor was a dark wood.
There was a bunk bed with wooden frames, and there were two white mattresses. The bottom bunk was empty, no pillows or covers, the top bunk, however, had pillows and a blanket. Toshiro preferred to sleep on the top bunk. The bunk bed was on the far right of the room. Across the room were two wooden desks with two cushions. One desk was empty while the other was cluttered. The desk Toshiro used was the desk that was cluttered, obviously. Across the desk were lesson books, calligraphy pens and a few open study books. In front of the two desks were seating cushions. Beside both desks were small bookshelves for each desk. The bookshelf next to the empty desk had a few books on it that were placed there before Toshiro had arrived, they were books given to each room for a starter. Toshiro’s bookshelf was filled with many different books: history books, Shinigami duties books, Hakuda books, Kidou books, Zanjutsu books, Hoho books, many language books, division information books, Zanpakuto books, and guide books, and there were a few calligraphy scrolls.
There were also two doors, beside the door to leave. One door led to a bathroom, the other door led to a walk-in wardrobe. The only things that were in the wardrobe are Toshiro’s academy uniform and a few night robes. On the wall on each side of the door that goes into the hallway, were two sword racks. On the right side was where Hyorinmaru rested, on the left side was empty.
Toshiro was currently laying on his bed, on the top bunk. He was staring at the white ceiling, the light was off as the moonlight beamed into the dark room. Toshiro was quietly thinking of earlier events that happened an hour ago.
“ What is troubling your mind, hatchling ?” Hyorinmaru asked from within Toshiro’s mindscape. Toshiro sighed and closed his eyes.
“The conversation earlier is still troubling me.” He said.
--------
{Flashback}
Toshiro went into his inner world to speak with Hyorinmaru, to distract himself from his nauseous feeling.
“ Master ?” Hyorinmaru spoke, hovering down to Toshiro and laid around him as Toshiro sat down. “ What is troubling your mind, little one ?”
“I feel so weird and so sick.” Toshiro said, sighing. Hyorinmaru hummed, his crimson eyes looked over at the crimson frozen space of Toshiro’s inner world in the distance. “ I see ”
“I’m not sure. I’ve never had an issue with eating before going into the past but now I feel sick whenever I eat a meal.” Toshiro said, looking down at his hand.
“ That would be because of me. ” A new voice spoke. It was so emotionless and dull. Looking up, Toshiro saw himself, his Zombified self.
“It’s you.” Toshiro said. His Zombie self nodded, crimson eyes looked into turquoise eyes. “ With my presence inside you and you’re now back in time, the effects of being zombified are now taking action. ”
Toshiro’s eyes widened. “What do you mean?!” He demanded.
“ Master .” Hyorinmaru softly spoke. “ Your body has been altered now because of the past Zombification .” “But why? It’s never been like this. Even after the war with the Quincies, I have never felt like this. So why-?”
“ Because Mayuri Kurotsuchi was the reason why you never dealt with the side effects. His injections every year that you went through in the past are no longer working. We are now in a time where Mayuri isn’t here. A time where Research and Development is not a thing. The effects of me being inside you is now taking an effect on your body. ” The zombie explained calmly.
Toshiro’s mind swirled, confusion and uneasiness was the only thing he felt. “In what way has the effects of being zombified affecting me now?” He was hesitant to ask.
“ Master, your organs are no longer stable .” Hyorinmaru said softly, knowing how traumatising this information is. Toshiro’s eyes widened in shock and horror. “What-?!”
“ Your stomach, liver and heart are messed up. It’s why you have been struggling to eat anything lately. ” The zombie shrugged. “My heart is also affected?” Toshiro struggled to say. The zombie nodded. “ Your heart beats during the day but at night, when you’re asleep, it stops. You are alive, but you’re also dead. Your body is slowly dying but you are not dying yourself. ”
“I’m dying but I’m not dying? That makes NO sense!” Toshiro stated. “ Master, in other words, you ARE a zombie, just not the type in stories or the type Giselle made, you’re a corpse with no pulse and looks like a normal human being .” Hyorinmaru explained. Toshiro went pale, looking at his zombie counterpart.
“So, I’m now like you?” Toshiro asked. “ Technically speaking, yes, but you aren’t. It’s hard to explain but this is the you now. I would recommend you eat from time to time so no one gets suspicious but be prepared for a lot of throwing up. Since your stomach is completely fucked, your body will reject the food. ” The zombie said.
{End of Flashback}
-----------
“ Yes, I can see how it is bothering you, Master. But you have to understand there is nothing we can do but accept it. You’re a soul within a corpse. You just have to accept it. ” Hyorinmaru said, his deep voice echoing in Toshiro’s head.
“I know. I think I’m going to just sleep and let my mind process what I’ve learnt.” Toshiro sighed as he rolled onto his side, bringing the blanket over him as he closed his eyes.

-Ice Changes the Story-
Toshiro was staring at the piece of paper in his hand. He had just graduated from the Shineoreijutsuin and is now a full-fledged Shinigami. Looking at the paper in his hand, he was now reading what division he will be going to.
Sixth Division
“Sixth Division? Who was the captain before Byakuya?” Toshiro thought, trying to remember. He didn’t think for too long as a hand went onto his shoulder, snapping him out of his thoughts. He looked up and saw Sojun. “Kuchiki-sama?” Toshiro said. Sojun huffed in amusement. “You can just call me ‘Kuchiki-san’, Hitsugaya-kun, you don’t need to add the ‘sama’.” Sojun chuckled slightly. Toshiro smiled slightly, not that it was noticeable. “Anyway Hitsugaya-kun, what division did you get into?” Sojun asked.
Toshiro looked down at the piece of paper again. “I’ve been sent to the Sixth Division.” Sojun’s eye brows rose in surprise as he smiled. “Looks like we’ll be in the same division. I’ve been selected into the sixth division as well.”
Toshiro nodded. “I see.” He said, a little nervous. Sojun picked up on Toshiro’s nervousness. “You don’t have to be nervous, Hitsugaya-kun. Kuchiki-taichou isn’t that bad, he’s just a little strict.” He smiled softly.
Toshiro perked up at the ‘Kuchiki-taichou’. “Kuchiki-taichou?” He repeated. Sojun nodded and took Toshiro’s shoulder, guiding him away to the Seireitei. “Yes. The Captain of the Sixth Division is called Ginrei Kuchiki. He’s the 27th Head of the Kuchiki Family. He’ll appear as strict but he’s not that bad. On the bright side, you should feel honoured, Kuchiki-taichou hand picks his subordinates.”
Toshiro was surprised and looked down in thought. “So this Ginrei guy is the 27th Head of the Kuchiki Family? I think he’s supposed to be Byakuya’s grandfather, if I remember clearly when Byakuya and I talked after recovering from facing Gerald in the Quincy War.” He thought.
“I hope everything will go smoothly.” Toshiro thought as he followed Sojun to the sixth division.
Toshiro was kneeling down in front of Ginrei Kuchiki within the sixth division as Ginrei observed him. Toshiro was gripping his Hakama pants as he stared on the floor.
“You are Toshiro Hitsugaya, the one they call the child genius, correct?” Ginrei stated, not asking but stating the obvious fact. Toshiro swallowed nervously and bowed his head. “Yes sir.”
Ginrei narrowed his eyes upon Toshiro’s form. “You are the youngest and fastest soul to ever graduate from the Shineoreijutsuin, and the youngest to get his Zanpakuto.” He said, mainly talking to himself.
Toshiro felt more nervous than before. During the original timeline, Gin had been the first child prodigy to ever graduate from the Shineoreijutsuin as a child, but now, it’s Toshiro. He was beyond nervous because he has no clue on what to expect, especially from a strict captain such as Ginrei Kuchiki.
“You’ll be starting as the seventh seat.” Ginrei spoke up. Toshiro looked up in shock, surprised that he’ll be given a high seat from a strict captain. Sure he was the third seat in the tenth division in the past, but Isshin was a goofy captain and was only serious when times were needed. “Y-Yes sir, thank you sir.” Toshiro said. “Do not disappoint me, Hitsugaya. I have high expectations from a prodigy such as yourself.” Ginrei said, turning around to his desk. “You’re dismissed.”
Toshiro bowed and got up. “Yes sir.” He said, leaving the office.
Sojun was waiting outside for Toshiro with a soft smile. “How did it go, Hitsugaya-kun?” Toshiro let out a huge breath that he didn’t realise he was holding in. “I’ve been given the seventh seat.” He said, making Sojun smile. “Really? That’s great!” He said, putting his hand on Toshiro’s shoulder. “You do deserve to have such a high position considering you graduated from the academy in less than a year, that’s near impossible after all.”
Toshiro nodded before looking up at Sojun. “What seat did you get, Kuchiki-san?” Toshiro asked. Sojun chuckled slightly. “I have yet to be given a seat. Kuchiki-taichou will be observing the new recruits training tomorrow and decide from then.” Toshiro nodded. “Makes sense.” He said.
Later that week Toshiro was dragged to the Shihouin compound once again by Yusuke.
“You really don’t know when to stop, don’t you?” Toshiro stared unimpressed at Yusuke. Yusuke laughed. “Oh come on, Toshiro, there’s nothing wrong with us three still hanging out.” He grinned. “Plus we still have training together.”
Toshiro sighed. “Fine. Are we still doing Hakuda?” “Duh, you’re a genius at everything except for Hakuda.” Yusuke grinned. Toshiro rolled his eyes at that response. “Whatever, let's just get to it.” He said, making Yusuke laugh.
Around 20 years later, third seat Toshiro Hitsugaya was knelt down in front of two captains, Ginrei Kuchiki of the sixth division and Yusuke Shihouin of the second division. Around 3 years ago, Yusuke’s father had died on a mission and was shot by a bunch of Quincies, Yusuke had taken his father’s role as the 21st Head of the Shihouin family and captain of the second division.
Yusuke’s attire had completely changed from a simple Shihakusho to a new outfit. He was wearing a short-sleeved black Kosode with a white sleeveless Shitagi, white obi and black Hakama pants. It was the basic attire, just altered. His socks are black and his sandals are dark orange. On his left hand was an orange glove that covered his knuckles and his thumb, leaving his fingers uncovered.
“He’s all yours, Shihouin-taichou.” Ginrei said before leaving. Yusuke huffed in amusement. “That man never changes. Then again, the Kuchiki family is more strict than the Shihouin family.” He grinned, looking down at Toshiro before throwing a lieutenant badge at Toshiro, which Toshiro caught with ease.
“Well welcome to the second division, Hitsugaya-fukutaichou.” Yusuke grinned. Toshiro smirked lightly. “Thank you, Shihouin-taichou.”
After the whole serious situation ended, Yusuke put Toshiro into a headlock. “Damn Toshiro! You lucky brat!” He laughed. “Already the youngest lieutenant in history! I’m so proud!” Yusuke laughed. Toshiro scowled and tried to get out of Yusuke’s hold. “Yeah. Yeah! Let go of me already!”
Yusuke laughed and let go of Toshiro with a soft grin. “But seriously Toshiro, with the way you’re progressing, it wouldn’t surprise me that you would make captain in no time.” He said softly as he headed in the direction of the second division. Toshiro frowned slightly and put his lieutenant badge on, which hung on his arm. He then followed Yusuke. “What do you mean by that?” He asked.
“Sojun and I technically got our positions because of our status. It’s a tradition that the Shihouin family head becomes the captain of the second division. Sojun is technically next in line to be captain of the sixth division because he’s the heir of the Kuchiki family, it’s why he’s a lieutenant. You, on the other hand, are not of noble blood. You’re a commoner with a frightening amount of reiatsu, that you somehow keep control of. It’s astonishing. You have one of the strongest elemental Zanpakutos in existence, you’ve mastered Kidou and Zanjutsu. Your Hoho and Hakada could use a bit more work in some areas but even then, you’re progressing quickly. You’re Shunpo, Jesus, don’t even get me started on how fast you can be. It’s like you know everything but at the same time, you don’t.” Yusuke said.
Toshiro coughed slightly from embarrassment. Sure he had gotten lots of praise in the past but hearing it all over again is embarrassing. “Not you too.” He said, sighing, “Kuchiki-kun gives me enough praise for the both of you.” He said. “As for me knowing everything but at the same time I don’t. I don’t know how to explain it. It just feels like everything comes naturally to me, I guess that comes from being a genius.” Toshiro used this excuse to avoid talking about it and avoid revealing the truth.
Yusuke hummed and looked down at Toshiro with his golden eyes. “I suppose that’s true. We’ve had normal prodigies in the past but they were all grown up. You are a child, physically a child, which means you’ll absorb things much quicker than the other prodigies.” He said.
Months later, Toshiro was sipping some tea while sitting on the roof of the second division. Ever since being in the second division, Toshiro has changed. His hair was different. It was still spiky but instead of having a fringe just covering a part of his forehead, his fringe just went wherever it wanted. It mostly covered his left eye but it was draped over the rest of his forehead. He was still wearing a black Kosode but it was only one sleeve, which is the left sleeve, and on his left pectoral is the second division kanji in white. He still wears a white Shitagi, white obi and black Hakama pants. His white socks have been changed to black and his sandals were also black. However the new additions to his outfit was a black sleeveless turtleneck top under his Shitagi and he has elbow length black gloves. Both gloves were different; the right glove was a fingerless glove and the left glove only had the index finger fingerless. His lieutenant badge was tied and hung on his obi.
Toshiro scoffed as he sipped his tea, watching the scene below him. Sojun had appeared behind him. “Hey Toshiro-kun, what are you doing up and what are you looking at?” Sojun asked. Toshiro just pointed down to what he was watching.
It was Yusuke with another member of the Shihouin family who was also the third seat of the second division. The member was a beautiful woman with a very curvy figure. She has long dark purple hair that was tied up in a bun with a black ribbon. She has the brightest sapphire eyes Toshiro has ever seen. She was also dark-skinned but it was lighter than Yusuke’s. She was wearing the standard Shihakusho. The two Shihouins were speaking to each other and Yusuke was blushing like a little school girl.
“This is so pathetic.” Toshiro commented. Sojun chuckled awkwardly. “I guess it would seem so to you, Toshiro-kun. You show no interest in romance.” Toshiro shrugged. “I don’t see the point.”
Toshiro’s eyes glanced back at Yusuke and Yui. “So they’re Yoruichi Shihouin’s parents.” He thought before glancing at Sojun. “And considering Sojun is the son of the 27th Head of the Kuchiki family, he’s Byakuya’s father. This is going to be interesting.”

-Ice Changes the Story-
“We have gathered today for the introduction of the new captain. After decades of having no one take the tenth division’s spot since the previous one died, we have finally found someone with a Bankai who can become the captain.” Yamamoto spoke in a captain’s meeting.
On each side of the room there were all the captains, however only a few of them will be captains for the next two hundred years.
On Yamamoto’s left was the odd side. Starting from the third division was the previous captain before Rose, his name is Ryujin Saito. Ryujin was a 7 foot muscular man with scars coming down his face that he got before being captain. He has brown spiky hair that comes down into braids at the back. He has dark skin and blue eyes. He was wearing the standard Shinigami Shihakusho with his captain’s haori hanging on his shoulders. His Zanpakuto was hanging upside down at his side.
Moving onto the fifth division is Shinji Hirako. Shinji looked the same as he did but his hair was longer. His hair was tied up. He wore the standard Shinigami shihakusho with a standard, long-sleeved, captain's haori.
Moving onto the seventh division is Love Aikawa. Love is a tall man, his hair was in a classic, rounded afro style with long sideburns which added to his height. He wore a standard Shinigami uniform with a sleeveless captain's haori and a pair of dark-lense sunglasses.
Onto the ninth division is Kensei Muguruma. Kensei is a tall, muscular man with sharp features, short light-grey hair, longer front bangs, which hung over his face. Brown eyes. He has a tattoo of the number "69" on his chest. He wore a sleeveless shihakushō that was open on the front, exposing his chest and tattoo, and tied it with a rope belt. He also wore a sleeveless haori and a pair of fingerless black gloves that covered most of his forearms.
Finally, the thirteenth division is Jushiro Ukitake. Ukitake is a tall man with a sickly pale appearance. Ukitake has pure white hair, which naturally was black but turned white due to his illness. He has turquoise eyes. He wore his hair in a long ponytail. He wears it parted on the left side with one long piece that tends to fall over his right eye. Ukitake wears the standard Shinigami shihakushō with a long sleeved captain's haori, and a crimson lining. He wears a narrow white obi, in which he secures his Zanpakutō.
On Yamamoto’s right side was the even side. Starting with the second division is Yusuke Shihouin. Yusuke still looks the same with his tall dark skinned features, his white hair and golden eyes. He was still wearing a short-sleeved black Kosode with a white sleeveless Shitagi, white obi and black Hakama pants. It was the basic attire, just altered. His socks are black and his sandals are dark orange. On his left hand was an orange glove that covered his knuckles and his thumb, leaving his fingers uncovered. He also had on a black turtleneck top under the Kosode.
Onto the fourth division is Retsu Unohana. Unohana has the appearance of a slender and very youthful woman with blue eyes and black hair. She wears the standard Shinigami captain shihakushō apart from using an obi instead of the normal sash, which hides her well-endowed bosom. Her hair is long and is tied in front of her as a loose ponytail. She has a large string attached to the sheath of her Zanpakutō and carries it over her shoulder.
Onto the sixth division is Ginrei Kuchiki. He has the appearance of an elderly man with slate grey eyes, a grey moustache, and long grey hair. He wears the standard captain uniform along with a white scarf, which is a family heirloom. He wears a short-sleeved captain's haori and fingerless black tekkō that covers the back of his hand and loops up to attach at the base of his fingers. He also wears black mala beads around his hakama-himo.
Onto the eighth division is Shunsui Kyoraku. Shunsui is a tall, light-skinned Shinigami with high cheekbones, grey eyes and long wavy brown hair. His hair is tied in a long ponytail and has long bangs that frame the left side of his face. He also has a noticeable amount of body hair on his chest, feet, and arms. He wears a Sugegasa straw hat and a pink, flowered lady's kimono, which he drapes across his shoulders and over his Shihakushō. Although his haori and obi sash are cheap, his pin-wheel hair pins are very expensive. He does not wear tabi with his sandals. He has thin facial hair around his mouth and on his cheeks.
And finally, the twelve division is Kirio Hikifune. Hikifune is a fairly tall woman with green eyes. She has long, smooth purple hair reaching her mid-back that curls up at the ends and bangs framing the sides of her face. She wears black lipstick and has red swirl-shaped markings under both her eyes. She also wears the standard Shinigami Shihakushō with a white obi beneath a white, long-sleeved haori.
Each captain had their lieutenants behind them, with the exception of the 2nd division, 10th division and 13th division.
“Hm, a new captain, eh?” Shinji commented, bored out of his mind.
“It is to be expected, the tenth division has always been a tricky division to replace for captain.” Love stated.
“What was the tenth division’s duty?” Asked Ryujin.
“Torture and interogation.” Kensei responded.
“Scary stuff if you asked me.” Shunsui commented.
“It’s not that bad, Shunsui.” Hikifune chuckled. Unohana glanced at Yusuke, noticing that Yusuke’s lieutenant was not behind him.
“Shihouin-taichou, where is Hitsugaya-fukutaichou? It is strange not to see him behind you in meetings like these.” Unohana asked. Yusuke chuckled and rubbed his neck. “Hitsugaya will be here soon.” “I hope it’s nothing serious for him to be late.” Ukitake said with a soft smile.
Yamamoto then slammed his cane down. “Enough!” His voice echoed in the room. “We have gathered to introduce the new captain, not talk about theories.”
Yamamoto then looked at Sasakibe. “Sasakibe-fukutaichou, go and inform the new captain that it is time.” He ordered. Sasakibe nodded and bowed. “Right away.” Sasakibe said before he left the room.
Soon enough the doors opened and a figure walked into the room. The figure was a 11-13 year old boy. Pure white spiky hair that draped over his eyes and went to the left in direction. Sun-kissed skin. Icy-cold turquoise eyes. His outfit has completely changed. He no longer wears a Shihakusho. He wears a black sleeveless turtleneck with his back also on show, like a virgin sweater, but it is mostly covered with a captain’s haori. The haori was like any other captain’s haori, however, it had black sleeves instead of white, it looked like the haori was sleeveless and the sleeves were part of the turtleneck but the sleeves were sewn onto the haori. Black leggings and a white bandage going around his waist. Black socks and black sandals. Covering arms and hands, but not fingers, were black elbow length gloves.
“No way…” Shinji said in surprise. Kensei hummed and smirked at Yusuke. “You sly bastard, Yusuke.” Yusuke just laughed in amusement. “You really think I would spill on who the new captain was?” “He’s just a brat, it was bad enough when he was a lieutenant but a captain.” Ryujin muttered.
“Enough.” Yamamoto said, glaring at the captains who spoke before looking at the new captain. “Toshiro Hitsugaya.” He said. Toshiro looked at Yamamoto. “Yes Soutaichou?” “I trust you lead the tenth division and make the correct choices.”
Toshiro nodded. “Yes sir.” He said, a frosty breath escaped out of his mouth. Yamamoto nodded. “You may take your new position.” Toshiro nodded and walked over to where the tenth division captain would usually stand, where he used to stand in his original timeline.
Everything felt familiar to Toshiro but not at the same time. He knew the majority of the captains, however they don’t know him like he knows them. It feels off to Toshiro, having to stand in between the future head captain and the future royal guard member but he stood straight and dealt with it.
------
After the meeting, Yusuke dragged Toshiro to the bar to celebrate. “Come on, Hitsugaya-taichou ! We’re going to celebrate!” Yusuke laughed. Toshiro tried to get out of his hold. “Yusuke, let go of me! I need to introduce myself to the tenth division!” Toshiro scowled. “Come on, Toshiro, a cup isn’t going to kill you.” Yusuke snickered. “Yusuke!” Toshiro scowled.
In no time, Toshiro was sitting in a bar with Yusuke and somehow Kyoraku joined them. Toshiro scowled, glaring at the cup. “Come on, Toshiro. One cup isn’t going to kill you. You drink it, you’re free to leave.” Yusuke grinned, drinking a cup of sake. Toshiro scrunched his nose in disgust. Kyoraku was already drunk, somehow.
Toshiro sighed heavily. “Fine.” He said, picking up the cup. He hesitated for a moment, taking a sniff before taking a sip. “Huh?” Toshiro was surprised that he didn’t gag. Whenever he had sake in the past, he always gagged and spat it out. “Is it because I’m practically a corpse?” He thought. “ This is one way to put it. Chemicals will not affect you, so alcohol won’t even give you a buzz, let alone you won’t taste it. ” The Zombified version of himself spoke in his head. Toshiro took a moment to process it before humming and taking another sip.
Yusuke just grinned as he watched Toshiro sip the sake before he started drinking his own. “You know, Toshiro, I have an idea I want to do when you’re all settled in being a captain.” Yusuke said. Toshiro raised a brow. “Is that so? Are you sure it’ll be allowed?” Yusuke smirked. “I won’t know unless we give it a shot.”
Toshiro sighed. “Why do I have a feeling your idea is going to give me a massive headache?” Yusuke laughed and continued to drink his sake.
Later on Toshiro finally got away from the party, Toshiro managed to go to the tenth division. The guards looked up when they noticed a child walking towards them, wearing a captain’s cloak. One guard raised a brow and turned to their group. “Do you see that?” The other guard nodded, dumbfounded. “Uh-huh.”
Toshiro soon stopped in front of the guards. “You look like you just got slapped by a fish.” He commented coldly. The guards were flabbergasted but before they could respond, Toshiro interrupted them. “Gather the division.” He ordered before heading inside, leaving the guards looking like idiots.
In mere moments Toshiro was standing in front of the tenth division. He was glancing at the Shinigamis, looking if he notices anyone from his time, which he doesn’t.
“This brings back memories.” Toshiro thought to himself. “However, unlike before, these lot only know me as the former lieutenant of the Second Division, not the former third seat of the tenth division. Funny how time travel works.”
He shook out of his thoughts and addressed the Shinigamis. “I am your new captain, I am Toshiro Hitsugaya. Many of you may know me as the previous lieutenant of the second division. I do not know any of you and you don’t know me. However, I do hope that by time we can all form a trust with one another. Change is scary but it’s best for everyone that this change happens. The tenth division has gone without a captain for hundreds of years and recently lost their lieutenant. I do hope you’ll give me a chance.” Toshiro said confidently and loudly for everyone to hear. “Come tomorrow, I wish to hold a squad training week. That way I can see where everyone is at and which Shinigami needs to go into what position.” He then turned around and headed to the tenth division’s office.
“He’s a kid?” One Shinigami murmured which brought up a whole conversation about Toshiro until one Shinigami spoke up.
“Idiot.” The Shinigami scowled. He was an elderly one and was the current third seat. “You have no idea who he is, do you? Youngsters these days.”
“Kaishin-san, you know who he is?” A female Shinigami spoke up.
“He’s Toshiro Hitsugaya, as he said previously. He’s a genius, a child genius. He managed to finish the six-year course academy in under a single year. He broke multiple records in no time. He quickly rose up the ranks in under fifty years, becoming captain in pretty much no time. He’s done the impossible. He’s a prodigy that comes every century. A prodigy is rare but a child prodigy is even rarer. I would be surprised if there will be another child prodigy in the next couple of years.” Kaishin explained. That had made everyone speechless.
-----------
In the next couple of months, the tenth division has changed, everyone was put into proper positions of their levels. Toshiro was currently working in his office. He had his haori off, which was across one of the couches within the office. Sitting on one of the couches, however, was Yusuke. Yusuke had come to Toshiro for a discussion about his idea.
“So, what was it that you wanted to talk about, Yusuke?” Toshiro asked, signing the papers on his desk. He had a lot of paperwork to catch up on due to the lack of captaincy over the years within the division.
Yusuke looked up from his cup of tea. “I was thinking-” “Which is dangerous.” Toshiro cut him off, which made him receive a playful glare from the other white haired male. “Anyway, I was thinking, how about we merge divisions?”
Toshiro was silent for a moment as his mind processed the idea. “Why?” Yusuke hummed with a smirk. “Why not? The second division and the tenth division do similar things, objective wise. The Onmitsukido hunts down and gathers information, the tenth division tortures and interrogates souls for information. Wouldn’t it be beneficial to have both of our divisions working together?” Yusuke explained his idea.
Toshiro hummed, looking up from his paperwork to stare blankly at Yusuke. Yusuke blinked as his grin vanished. “What?” He asked. Toshiro blinked before smirking. “Wow, you actually thought of something smart for once.” Yusuke huffed and glared at Toshiro. “Hey! I can be smart when I want to! Just because I’m not a genius like you are, doesn’t mean I can’t have ideas!”
