Chapter Text
After a long 16 hour flight, they finally arrived in Hawaii. Chuuya, and his two dads Paul and Arthur, were gonna go on a relaxing cruise so they could have a break from work and, for the teenager, from school. “Well, are you excited?” Paul said as they boarded off the plane.
“Yeah, but I'm also kinda scared. What if it sinks..?” Chuuya said, muttering the last part. “I hate the ocean anyway, was this really necessary?” he pouted. Arthur laughed and shook his head. “Always worrying about the worst that could happen. just calm down and enjoy the time off school, you'll get over the fear in no time” he said rubbing his son's back as a way to comfort him just a bit.
As they left the airport they called a taxi to drive them to the port, as they didn't have a car here, and they patiently waited for their time to embark while they got various snacks they had never seen from the stalls that were there.
Finally, after the longest 20 minutes of their lives, they called their names and gave them the keys to their rooms. They got on the huge cruise ship together, quickly finding their respective bedrooms since they were all next to each other, and they started unpacking their stuff.
The mattresses were soft enough, the sheets a silk-like material and the blankets fluffy. They also had a variety of pillows to pick their favorite, from soft to firm and from thick to almost flat.
Chuuya still looked worried and glanced at his dads. He knew he was gonna have his preoccupations brushed off by them, as they somehow suspected nothing and were very chill about this whole thing. He decided to speak up anyway.
“Are we sure it's not gonna sink or break or anything?” Chuuya asked, once again worried about all the possible accidents that could happen while he was on the cruise. Paul and his husband just looked at each other and sighed exasperatedly. There was really no way of having him calm down and stop fretting.
“Yes Chuuya, we're sure. What are the chances that it could happen anyway, one in a thousand?” Arthur replied, trying to make a point and explain it wasn't that often that cruises sunk. Chuuya seemed to worry even more at his father's answer. “That's not even that low of a chance! There are a lot of cruises and what if we were the one thousandth and we'd actually sink!!” he paced around his room, still thinking of the worst.
“It's not actually a one in a thousands dummy, it was just a random example yo have you calm down but apparently it's near impossible for us to manage that” Paul facepalmed and looked at his partner.
“Yeah you're almost completely hopeless” Arthur shook his head and left with Paul, leaving him alone with his thoughts in his room. The teenager just sat on his bed and decided to go on his phone to distract himself a bit, and after scrolling through tiktok for a while, he found a video about mermaids. “Pfft, people still believe in human fish hybrids that apparently sing well? Pathetic” he muttered and kept browsing social media.
Though, he was now fantasizing about seeing a mermaid. It was dumb, but what if they were real? He'd definitely be mesmerized and would love to hear one sing, if the legends were true and their voice was angelic.
Soon he got a call from his dad, which interrupted his daydream. He said they were going to the hydromassage tub and that they invited him to relax with them. He sighed as he got up from bed and met them where they established, opting to try it out and ease his nerves. Chuuya looked up at the sky, frowning when he saw all the dark clouds, and he anticipated a storm incoming. He shook his head and mentally scolded himself to focus on relaxing.
He sighed and changed into just swim trunks, before quickly sinking in the hot tub and allowing all his muscles to rest, closing his eyes and taking deep breaths. It was rather cold, and he pretty much hated showing his body. He wasn't that insecure, he just didn't really like it. But it was normal, he was a teenager and those years were an emotional rollercoaster for everyone.
As soon as he started thinking about the worst again, he suppressed those voices.
Nothing can go wrong. You're overthinking it. Everything will be fine.
He repeated those things to himself, but he couldn't help being worried about that persistent gut feeling he was getting. No Chuuya, focus. Nothing will happen.
He snapped from his thoughts as one of his dads called him. “...rth to Chuuya. Earth to Chuuya” Paul called him and tapped his shoulder. “Oh yeah sorry what's up?” he replied hurriedly and his dad shook his head. “We asked you if you wanted to maybe sleep in bed with us. It could ease your worries” Arthur smiled at his son and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Thanks but I'll be just fine. Don't worry I'm just a little stressed, but I'm sure this cruise will help me relax” he gave his parents a small smile and leaned back against the tub. His dad nodded in understanding and relaxed with his husband. He then whispered to his ear “We should've really gotten him anxiety meds or something, there's no other way of having this boy relax.” and Chuuya elbowed him with very little force. “Hey I can hear you! hmpf.” he pouted like a baby and turned his back to them. They just laughed it off and went back to talking, this time about work related stuff and what they were gonna do when they got bsck home.
It was around 6pm when the sun was completely covered by the menacing clouds and little droplets of rain started falling. Chuuya was already in bed, just scared at this point, buried under his blankets and imagining the worst case scenarios.
It's just rain. (But what if lightning strikes the cruise?). It won't happen. (But what if it does?). The cruise can't get flooded. (But what if it can?).
These thoughts, completely opposite to each other, kept playing in his head like a broken record, and he couldn't manage to shut them up.
He slowly fell asleep to these thoughts, even missing dinner and the party after that. Just sleeping to the scary yet comforting sound of raindrops against the small window of his room.
“No!” he yelled and quickly sat up. He was drenched in sweat and let out a sigh. Another nightmare. He took a deep breath before checking the time. Oh. 2:47am. He tried to go back to sleep but he somehow couldn't, so he just stared at the ceiling until his body shut off from exhaustion, which didn't take long.
"Wake up, it's time for breakfast!” Paul smiled at his door and woke him up. He definitely had no idea about the dream the teenagers in front of him had the previous night. He would also never know that it would've come true sooner or later.
He died. They all died. It sank, nobody survived. But he lived it all. He was conscious but dead, the last thing he remembered from his dream was a wave hitting him right in the face before he came back to reality.
“Ugh yeah I'm coming” Chuuya groaned as he stirred and got to the little restaurant to have breakfast. He spotted his dads and sat with them, opting for a safe option which consisted of a Nutella filled croissant and an iced coffee.
“Did you sleep well?” Arthur asked him, seeing he was a little dissociated, probably thinking about something. “Me?” Chuuya pointed at himself “Yeah yeah slept like normal” he lied, so his parents wouldn't worry. He knew they were probably aware of his sleeping problems, even more now that he was so worried, but they decided to not mention that.
In Chuuya's opinion, this was supposed to be relaxing for everyone, and if he wasn't he had no right to bother people who were actually enjoying it. His dads knew he was avoiding talking about the issue, luckily letting it go.
The teenager had to add one thing though. “Just the rain doesn't give a promising feeling. A little sad that it's storming on the days of our cruise.”
Both parents nodded, agreeing with what he said. “Yeah you're kinda right, but I'm glad we were all able to sleep through it. I hope it's just a temporary thing and it'll be sunny and warm again soon.” Paul said with a smile as he finished his omelet. The other two just nodded.
Chuuya sighed, sipping his coffee “Yeah. I hope so too..”
