Work Text:
Samiel stood over his little brother, both bloody and bruised from the fighting that had transpired only moments ago. He was holding shadow haunter to zazriels neck, one swing and this would all be over. One swing and he would succeed in saving the entire world. But he couldn't do it.
His grip on the spear tightened as he tried to find the will to finish his little brother off and end the war but it wasn't there. He couldn't do it.
His mind wondered to memorys of when the two boys were much younger, around 8 and 14 respectively when there father had kidnapped them. He remembered how terrified zazriel had looked, how he had clung to samiel for safety, how he never left his side during that horrible year they went through together.
They had always been close being the most similar in age, only six years apart. He still remembered when zazriel was born, their mother bringing in the small little bundle in her arms who would grow up to be his little brother. He loved zazriel and couldn't deny that fact no matter how terrible zazriel had become.
"What? Can't finsh me off big brother?" Zazriel spoke in a teasing tone, mocking samiel for his lack of will in him to murder zazriel himself.
"Samiel finsh him off!" Micheal called out, he had assisted in getting zazriel down but quickly had to go defend against some demons that had snuck up.
Tears poured down his cheeks, quick and warm, pushing the dust and blood that had built up on his face out of the way. He hadn't even noticed he was crying until he saw the tears fall onto zazriel.
"I-i can't do it. I can't kill you." He sobbed, he was looking down at zazriel, he knew what he had done these past years but he still couldn't bring himself to do it. He just couldn't find it in himself to deliver the blow.
He saw out of the corner of his eye micheal running up, coming to see what was taking so long. His expression was stern at first, mixed with confusion but turned worried as he saw samiel crying.
He wiped some of the tears from samiels face, "Hey, Hey what's wrong? Why cant-"
"I can't do it Micheal." Samiel cut him off, he was still sobbing, grasping onto his spear like his life depened on it. "I can't bring myself to kill him."
"I'll do it. I'll take over from here, you've done amazing so far." He gently pushed a still sobbing Samiel aside and took his place over zazriel.
He placed glemblade over zazriels chest and said one final goodbye to his youngest brother before plunging the greatsword into his chest.
Samiel watched as micheal killed there brother. He knew it had to be done but that didn't change the fact that it hurt. It hurt like all hell to watch the man he had loved his entire life die.
A guard, one that hadn't be there to witness what just happened yelled out, they needed reinforcements. That snapped Samiel back to reality. They were still fighting and the demons hadn't stopped just because zazriel had died. The world kept spinning and time kept moving forward even if someone had died and plenty had. Samiel couldn't fall behind.
Samiel yelled to micheal as he was leaving, "Brother! I'm needed as reinforcements, go disable the decimation engine, I'll meet with you afterwards."
Micheal nodded to him, gathering his honor guard and heading over as samiel left in the other direction. Micheal spared one last glance to zazriel, a gash in his chest from his sword as he lay dead on the rough ground. He failed but he wouldn't fucking fail Samiel.
---------------------------
Samiel couldn't believe the sight before him. Micheals honer guard all dead on the ground with micheal looking back at him. Standing covered in blood in the center of the carnage.
Micheal couldn't have done this. He wouldn't have done this. Samiel refused to believe that the man he had admired for being noble and righteous his entire life would kill good men. He had just permanently lost one brother, he didn't want to lose another, his own remaining family, he couldn't loose Micheal, not like this.
"Micheal. What did- what happened here." Samiel called out. He was loud, he wasn't yelling, he sounded hurt.
"Samiel. I-" he cut himself off, turning his fave away from samiel, almost like he couldn't look him in the eye. "I had to. It was between.. it was between me and them."
He felt tears run down his cheeks again, he admitted to it. He admitted to killing innocent men for his own life. Micheal wasn't as noble ans righteous as Samiel thought then. No. He was a fucking hypocrite.
It was a moment before samiel spoke but when he did his tone was harsh and full of pure udder hatred for Micheal. "You fucking hypocrite. You chose your own life over theirs. You told me, you told everyone you would never harm an innocent person. That you would give your life to protect others but I guess those were all lies aswell." Tears streamed down his face as he yelled at micheal. He wasn't crying because he was sad, no, he was angry, betrayed, hurt by what his brother did.
"You were my idol, I looked up to you. And well, if you can kill then why can't I. The minute this is sorted out and we can go, I never want to fucking talk to you again." In that moment, staring at his brother Samiel didn't see Micheal kuan-yin, no. All he saw was Marcellion Ventarius.
With that final declare he walked off again. Tears pouring down both of the men's faces.
Samiel still had things to handle, he needed to check on the wounded, see how many people had died in fight. Tell the people that zazriel had died and the engine was disabled. The world kept spinning and time kept moving forward even if someone had died and plenty had. Samiel couldn't fall behind.
Micheal almost fell to his knees after samiel, last remaining family told him he never wanted to speak to him again. He had started to cry himself. If only he could tell him the truth but no. He would let Samiel hate him if it meant he got to protect him from the truth. He could live with that.
---------------------------
The war had ended about a week ago. The few divines that had survived had a meeting that got heated to say the least, it went smooth at first but when the topic of how the decimation engine was destroyed, Samiel lost his cool towards micheal fairly quickly.
Now he was in the obsidian cascade, headed for bleak hold to have a 'chat' with the king. He was going to keep up with what he said to micheal. If his idol (well ex-idol) could kill than why couldn't he.
He reached bleak hold fairly quickly and it wasn't a hassle having the guards let him in being a divine and all. He had a sword that he had made for him during the war incase he lost track of shadow haunter (which he left at the armory with his armor) so it shouldn't be to hard to kill the king and whatever guards that may try to attack him and take over.
The guards led him right to king Avain under the pretence that he just wanted to see how the obsidian was fairing after the war.
Standing infront of the king he gave a fake smile and a quick bow. "King Avain, how are you fairing now that the war has ended?" It pained him to be so nice to such a vile man but he had to play the part if he wanted to do this right.
"Samiel. I we are doing well, I will say this vist is rather soon, is anything of substance the matter?" His tone was that of a man who couldn't be hurt. He was surrounded by guards and no doubt had all the confidence in the world that he could survive anything. Oh what a fool he was.
"Yes actually, I'm afraid your rule of the obsidian cascade is over." The fake smile dropped as he took out his blade.
The guards acted quickly as he took his blade but he was faster. The were only mortal while he was divine so it didn't take much to cut and tear through the guards that came at him.
He reached the king quick enough and slit his throat, it was a quick and effective maneuver as the king choked on his own blood and then went limp.
Samiel threw the body off of the thrown that it previously sat on and took the crown from the dead man that now lay on the floor infront of him as he sat.
He dawned the crown and spoke to the room of shocked and terrified guards, servents, and nobles with the confidence of a man who had been ruling all his life. "People of the obsidian cascade, your previous king is dead. I am your ruler now."
The room was silent as Samiel took in his new position, untill one brave soul dared to speak up. "your highness.. should the people call you Samiel?"
He looked down at the bodies of those he had just slaughtered, that's not something samiel would do and he knew that. For a brief moment he thought about the people who were living still, no matter what happened in here. The world kept spinning and time kept moving forward even if someone had died and plenty had this time by his hands. Samiel wouldn't fall behind. "No. From this moment on, I am the dark prince."
