Lucy hears a phone ringing, but the phone in Sergeant Grey’s office has no voice behind it. She realizes it’s her cell phone, but Grey finally walks back in.
“I was just trying to call you. I heard you did a masterful job today.” Grey says and Lucy’s cheeks go red at the compliment.
“I did my job sir.” Lucy says, smiling back. “Oh how was Tim’s laparoscopic?” Grey sighs and Lucy’s stomach drops.
“He ended up needing emergency spinal surgery.” Lucy’s face stays neutral but she just wants to run to the hospital. “Go see him. Also, take the next two weeks off to help him. He’s going to need it. Good night Lucy.”
“Good night sir.” Lucy is confused at the time off, but she practically sprints from the room. She changes quickly and heads right to the hospital. It seems as though they are expecting her as they quickly point out Tim’s room.
“Why didn’t anyone tell me?” Lucy says as soon as she enters and sees he’s awake. The stress of everything today is hitting her at once. I could have lost him.
“I asked them not to.”
“So to be clear, you couldn’t feel your legs and you were worried about me?” Lucy asks, wanting it to be a joke, but her heart feels heavy.
“I was worried about the station.” Lucy glares. “Yes about you too Lucy. I always worry.”
“Umm where’s Ashley?” Lucy realizes the blonde in question is nowhere to be found and Tim is alone. His face drops and Lucy catches it. “Tim, what happened?” Lucy doesn’t even realize her hands catch his as she moves her chair closer to the bed.
“Lucy, I-“ Tim stops because how does he tell Lucy this. It’s not her problem. She is staring at him waiting for an answer. There’s no judgment, there never is. “When I woke up, Ashley was here. She wanted me to retire and travel the world because of this. I said no. She broke up with me.” Lucy’s face goes from concern to anger.
“AS SOON AS YOU WOKE UP?” Lucy is angry. “That bitch. She’s horrible. I’m so sorry Tim.” Lucy moves even closer to him and he looks at her.
“It’s fine. Better to get out anyways. She didn’t want marriage or kids.” Tim looks up at Lucy and she just wants to hug him, but she can’t.
“I’m not going anywhere Tim. Grey gave me the next two weeks off and I know now why. Even if he hadn’t, I would take them off anyways.”
“I’ll be fine Luce.” Tim barely believed the lie that rolled off his tongue.
“You may be, but you’re stuck with me.” Lucy smirks and he forms a small smile.
“No one else I’d rather have by my side.” Lucy can tell he’s tired.
“Get some sleep. I’m not going anywhere.” Lucy says as Tim nods off fairly quickly. Lucy sends a few texts so clothes can be brought in for both of them and watches over Tim all night. Lucy’s so angry at Ashley, but she realizes this is her chance. To show Tim how much she loves him. Lucy wants to comfort him and help him heal. She will do whatever she can.
The next morning Tim wakes up, grateful he can feel, but in a lot of pain. He groans as he wakes up and feels a soothing hand on his face. “Shhh, don’t try to move too much.” He hears Lucy’s voice.
“Lucy.” Tim rasps out as she comforts him as best she can. “You’re still here?” He pries his eyes open to see her looking down at him, her soft hands trying to help comfort him.
“I told you I wasn’t going anywhere.” Lucy says quietly as she grabs his hand and sits back down.
“Why? You don’t need to. Not for me.” Lucy sees a tear escape and trickle down his face. She moves her hand to cup his cheek.
“I want to be here Tim. Okay? I’m not leaving.”
“Why?” The way he says it breaks Lucy’s heart. Everyone leaves Tim and never puts him first. He isn’t used to anyone choosing him.
“Why? Because to me Tim, you are the world. I promise we will talk more later, after, but right now I’m going to take care of you as best I can in this hospital. When we get you home, we will figure it out.”
“Lucy-“
“Please Tim.” Tim nods because this is new for him. Even when he was shot, no one stayed with him. Lucy did small gestures, but things were different then. Lucy supports him and comforts him as much as she can while he’s in the hospital. Angela drops two bags off later and brings food.
After three days, they finally released Tim. Lucy has his truck pulled to the front and helps him climb in. “I’ve got you.” Lucy says as he moves slowly to get in. She even buckled him in because it hurt. Lucy thanks the nurse and starts the drive to Tim’s house. She makes one quick stop for his prescriptions and a few other necessities before they finally arrive at Tim’s.
Lucy runs to help Tim down and he’s grateful for her support because it still hurts. “Bed or couch?” Lucy asks as she disarms his house. Kojo is at Genny’s so they don’t have to worry about him jumping on Tim.
“Couch. I’ve been in bed for days.” Lucy smiles as she helps him get comfortable.
“Are you hungry?” Lucy asks and Tim nods. It’s lunch time. As she looks through his cabinets, she sees he has no food. “Okay I will order groceries.” She says quietly and places a quick order for lunch. Lucy sits on the couch and places a grocery order. “Okay lunch is ordered and I got groceries so I can cook for you.”
Tim looks at her. “You didn’t need to do all that.” Lucy puts her hand on his leg.
“I wanted to. I’ll be making sure you have some healthy home cooked meals mister.” The next couple of days fly by. Lucy cooks and takes care of Tim. He was nervous about her helping with bathing, but she has been gentle. They have yet to talk, but Lucy wants to.
“Hey Tim.” Lucy says as she helps tuck him into bed that night.
“Yeah?” He looks at her.
“Can we maybe talk now?” Lucy stands there chewing her lip, wearing one of his shirts.
“Of course.” Lucy sits down.
“Tim, you are my favorite person and the one I feel safe with. When I heard you were hurt, I started to hurt. I don’t think you realize how important you are to me. There was a time you were not just my TO anymore. Feelings changed. I can tell you now, after the undercover op, everything with Chris and Ashley, and undercover school, I am in love with you. I want to take care of you. I want to be the person by your side.” Lucy takes a deep breath when Tim’s hand cups her face and wipes a tear away.
“I have fallen in love with you too. I’ve never had anyone take care of me this way. Ever. You know my childhood, Isabel only cared about her, and my relationships recently only cared about themselves too or changing me. You’re the first person to really see me Lucy. Having you here has made me realize I want no one else.” Lucy puts her forehead against Tim’s.
“I can’t lose you.” Lucy says quietly as she leans in for a kiss, their tears mixing in, but it was perfect. “I won’t leave you Tim. I promise. I’ll always be here for you.”
“We will take care of each other and love each other. Now will you please finally sleep in bed with me? I could use some cuddles.” Lucy laughs at the timing but nods.
“As long as you cuddle me so I don’t hurt you.” Lucy compromises. Tim lays on her when she opens her arms. They both sleep better than they have in a while. Lucy took care of Tim until they had to go back to work and no one was surprised when they finally got together. Lucy would always take care of Tim, no matter what. They always put each other first.
