Work Text:
Your HeartbeatIt’s the week before Valentine's Day. Olivia had been checking her phone for a text from Elliot that he was heading home after his undercover operation wrapped. No word until the afternoon of Valentine's Day.
To Liv: don’t deadbolt the door tonight.
Liv looks at her phone and sends him the emoji with the eyebrow raised.
To Liv: trust me?
She replies right away.
To El: with my life.
To Liv: don’t deadbolt the door tonight.
To El: Ok.
Elliot was in a car headed back to the city. He turns on the radio and a familiar song plays. Open Arms by Journey.
So now I come to you
With open arms
Nothing to hide
Believe what I say
So here I am
With open arms
Hoping you'll see
What your love means to me
Open arms
He smiles and finds it on Liv’s preferred app for streaming music and sends it to her.
Back at the precinct, it’s almost time for her to head home. She checks her messages and plays the song. Tears stream down her face.
To El: how close are you?
To Liv: still a few hours away. But I’ll be home tonight.
To El: ok. Listened to the song you sent and now I’m sitting in my car crying.
He calls her.
“Hello?”
“Hey. Why the tears?”
“Because it’s true. The house was empty without you…and the kids…”
Elliot smiles. “I’ll be home in a couple hours. You be careful.”
“I will.”
Unbeknownst to her as she drives to the house, Elliot had pulled in and was waiting for her. She pulls into the driveway, turns the car off, grabs her stuff, and walks up the walkway to the door. She unlocks it and opens the door slowly. She smiles when she sees Elliot standing there. She drops her purse and keys in a hurry and rushes to him with his arms open.
“I’m home.”
Living without you
Living alone
This empty house seems so cold
Wanting to hold you
Wanting you near
How much I wanted you home
