Work Text:

“So we pretend that we like each other but we don't dare to tell the other alone so that Gabe and Jack could finally declare their love for each other?… I think it's a bit complicated. Those two have too much ego to say what they feel, they just…, blush and insult each other every time they see each other. Maybe they are not ready…”

“Oh come on, Hanny! Love always comes to light, they will end up confessing that they are in love with each other!”

They are in Jesse's bed, embraced under the cover of night. Hanzo's legs tangle with Jesse's under the sheets. The cowboy was caressing the archer's chest gently and lovingly after spending a good time together.

The lamps on the bedside tables are the only source of light in the room, but it is enough for them… And it created a sexy and intimate atmosphere. Like the secret lovers they are.

Hanzo’s pearly white teeth showing between his fine lips. The emotion he feels in his chest makes him want to dance and jump roof by roof. Oh, and Jesse... Hanzo can't put into words how much the sight of that messy curly hair and dreamy eyes makes his heart flutter.

“You are forgetting something very important: We could have our golden opportunity to let others know that you and I are in love. We will never have to hide again when we want to be together, just give each other kisses and hugs… And we can sleep together without you having to jump from your balcony to mine to get in here, and then go back to your room jumping over the balconies again in the morning…”

The beginning of their relationship had begun in secret... They had started just to relieve stress, an unwritten agreement in which they gave each other someone to sleep with, someone with whom to feel…, less alone.

They were not ashamed of each other, at first they only hid this 'relationship' because they saw no reason to talk about it, but when the feeling of something else surfaced, neither of them knew how to stop hiding it.

‘I'm going to make some tea.’ As an excuse to go out when Jesse texted him that he was back from a mission to greet him with a kiss in a lonely hallway.

‘I'm going to train my aim.’ To be alone in a training room that one of the two had previously reserved.

“I'm going to meditate” To see each other alone outside.

“I have soiled my clothes 'by accident', I have to change my clothes right now…” and then sometimes come back with the same dirty clothes because they had a lot of fun loving each other in silence.

Excuses, excuses, excuses... Each one more far-fetched than the last, and none of them pleased Hanzo and Jesse. Additionally, their ‘love marks’ sometimes required wearing clothing that was too warm or uncomfortable for the weather at the Overwatch base.

If they pretended to fall in love now, with the excuse of helping their mutual friends confess, it would be like a golden opportunity. And there would be no questions about whether all the times they gave an excuse was to see each other… Hanzo knew that Hana would ask him 'how many times did he ride a horse' when he was supposed to meditate.

Jesse doesn't want to think about how angry Genji will be when he finds out that he has been with his brother without telling him anything. Although Genji would also get angry with Hanzo for the same reason…

A little cowardly perhaps. Two fools in love.

Love makes us idiots. The problem is that sometimes it makes us too stupid…

(...)

They are at a restaurant that Hanzo has chosen with Jack. They both love fine and elegant surroundings, they even make an effort to dress according to a dress code that Jesse and Gabe tried hard to follow.

Hanzo in one of his best kimonos (one that Jesse had never seen him wear) and that made him look like a king. And Jack in a blue suit as he took Gabe's hiccups away when he saw him for the first time.

Jesse feels strange in his black suit, he would rip it off and run through the desert naked if someone promised him that his PeaceKeeper and his hat were waiting for him on the other side. Hanzo is the only person who can get him in a suit. His eyes sparkle as the archer watches McCree stop wearing jeans (although Hanzo LOVES seeing him in them), and the cowboy could do anything to keep feeling those eyes in him like this.

On the other hand, Reyes had chosen to wear a white shirt and dress pants. There was no tie or bow tie in his neck, and he had two buttons undone at the top of the shirt. And he was using his dear black leather trench coat. Jack tried to tell him that he looked ‘too gloomy’ for a romantic dinner, but he choked on his own saliva when Gabe took off his trench coat and Jack saw that the suit fit his body perfectly. Too perfect… Even Hanzo looked at him for a few seconds before looking away.

“When I saw you and Jack, I thought I was in heaven… I wonder if angels can be like you…” Jesse says when he noticed that Jack and Gabe aren't talking to each other.

Hanzo blushed a little and tried to contain the desire to kiss him by laughing. McCree’s compliments were always so sweet and cloying that Hanzo only knew how to respond by letting his body speak, even if that meant they 'talked' too much.

“It's just a new kimono…” he tried to feign indifference, as if he hadn't spent two hours looking for a kimono in his closet that Jesse didn't know, to impress him.

And he has achieved it. Hanzo can read 'you know I didn't mean the kimono' in the gunman's eyes. No, Jesse melts every time he feels that Hanzo wants to look handsome for him, no matter how hard Hanzo tries, but where he really loses his mind is seeing what Hanzo is like without anything hiding his pretty body from his hungry eyes. And when that happens, Jesse always acts as if he's seeing it for the first time. A treasure freshly dug out of the ground. An unknown country with a lot to explore and that can offer you a million new things. A new game in which he can spend all his free time to get all the achievements.

Has the restaurant’s temperature suddenly risen? Or maybe it's his imagination? Has he always been so far away from Jesse? He feels as if the round table where the four of them are sitting has grown, pushing him away from Jesse…

“Oh come on, it's not just the clothes…” Jesse talked, smiling.

Jack and Gabe seem more immersed in their courtship than their own. The two of them talk to each other, they just look at Jesse and Hanzo. As if they saw something they didn't.

When Hanzo notices that, his shyness appears a little. The intensity of his gaze falls to the plate of food and his face is redder than before.

“So…, Soldier76, how was your day?”

“Good. Today's training had favorable results.”

“You only know how to talk about training? Look how boring you are, Jackie…” Reyes mocked. The identity of both in Overwatch was not a secret, but Jack still seemed uncomfortable when called by his name.

“I don't know who Jack is, but that's not my name.”

“Oh come on, don’t be like that.” He raised his arms and crossed them behind his head. The chair balanced on two legs as Gabe stared at the ceiling.

The sight of the buttons on his shirt giving way a little to show bits of his dark skin, while his muscles flexed left the blonde breathless until Reyes put his eyes on him again.

“I don’t-...” Morrison coughs and looks away to try to hide his blush, “I do not know who you are talking about. I don't know Jack Morrison... Is he a friend of yours?”

Gabriel laughs and points at him, leaving his posture relaxed. The chair screams as he is back on all fours of it. “I never said 'Morrison'. Stop pretending you are not him, tonto*!”

Jack gives him an angry look, as if trying to activate the tactical scope on him right now.

Jesse and Hanzo butt in to talk to them. Jesse talks to him about how delicious his food is, offering some to Reyes. On the other hand, Hanzo asks him what wine he would like, since only the two of them like that drink and they should agree.

Trying to prevent Jack and Gabriel from insulting each other, Jesse and Hanzo resort to this trick a couple of times and it works every time. They even manage to have more or less calm conversations.

“You don't look as perfectionist as I thought you would with this date, Ja- 76…”

“Oh thanks! You don't look as bad as I thought you would.” Hanzo nudged him and after a complaint, Jack stopped the game. “You look well. Although a tie would have made you look better... They wouldn't kill you if you didn't pull it too tight around your neck, you know.”

“It's funny you say that, you know 76... I once killed a man using his own-” Jesse coughs at that moment and looks at him with an exaggerated grimace so that he doesn't finish the sentence. Reyes sighed. “I don't know how to wear a tie. I tied myself with one once… I don't want to repeat that experience again.”

The blonde laughed a little and shook his head in disbelief. “And how about a bow tie?”

“No, I have not yet had the chance to eliminate someone with their own bow tie, just with a tie…”

The cowboy made to elbow Reyes again, but then Jack laughed again and he changed his mind. It shouldn't be surprising that Jack and Gabriel had a similar sense of humor, having known each other for so long and being able to coordinate so well on their missions together. A soft laugh that seemed to create sparkles in Gabe's eyes.

Hanzo and Jesse smiled silently. Things were going well... They could pretend that love was now emerging between them with witnesses, and there would no longer be a need to hide what they really felt from each other.

“You were always so raw and creative… The one who always went ahead in team operations, always wanting to lighten the load and problems for others.”

“And you were always a good boy… Although we both did the same thing: protect the others. I still remember when you let them shoot you in the shoulder to save a rookie… God, if I close my eyes, I think I can still see that poor, lost boy's face realizing for the first time that he is not cut out to be a soldier.”

Jesse laughed a little as he imagined what Reyes said. For his part, Jack was trying to hold back his laughter, talking about how no one is made to be anything, people just find something that they feel is worth spending their time on. But in the end everyone except Hanzo ended up laughing a little.

The dinner became more pleasant after that conversation, commenting on things, Jesse complimenting Hanzo that he tried hard not to return, Reyes and Jack sharing anecdotes…

And in the end, when they left and were at the Overwatch base, both soldiers looked at each other before laughing as if they had heard the best joke of their lives. They then looked at Hanzo and Jesse, laughing again as they pointed at them.

The archer and the gunman didn't know what was so funny, until Jack spoke, making them feel like two fools.

“We will pretend that you have fallen in love at dinner if you also pretend the same with us.”

“Wait, you too?” Jesse asked, completely surprised.

Jack and Gabe looked at each other, like two naughty children who have made a prank. They then nodded in unison before Jack wrapped his arms around the taller man's neck, his hip being surrounded by Reyes’ arm.

“Sorry guys, but we wanted to laugh a little before saying anything to you…”

“But- how do you know our secret? Were we too obvious?...” Hanzo asked, looking at his lover as if he could find the answer.

“No, in fact you were better at it than we were... Gabie and I insult each other by getting nervous, and we are never able to show that there is... Something else.” Jack moved his free hand, trying to point out the space between them.

“But, Jesse can't lie to me or hide anything from me. I know my chamaco* very well.”

Jesse blushed a little before looking at Hanzo, taking his hand and then looking at who was the closest thing to a father to him.

“Is it too late for me to say that it's not personal that I hid this from you?... Hanzo and I didn't start out as a couple, that's why we never said it to anyone until now…”

Reyes shook his head, dismissing it before leading the blonde through the corridors of the base.

“I guess now you and I... Are we officially falling in love?” Jesse looked at Hanzo and took his hands.

“What if we just stop hiding it and that's it?”

“Are you sure?”

Hanzo smiled and took his hand. He was leading him through the hallways to the living room, where Hana and Genji were sitting on the floor playing video games and Mercy was reading a book on the floor.

Jesse couldn't control his heart when Hanzo guided him to sit with him on the couch, settling against each other. They would face the questions together…

“It seems like dinner has brought you a lot closer." Angela was the first to speak.

“No, Jesse and I were already very... Close to each other before.”

“Wait... You guys were already… what!?” Genji stopped playing to look at his brother and best friend. His jaw might have dropped in surprise at that moment.

“Already knew.” Hana seemed completely calm.

“Don't lie Hana! If you had known, you would have told the entire base! Plus, you love teasing Hanzo…”

“Jesse, your room is next to mine... And that bed squeaks a little. You can't imagine how many times you've ruined my streams with your 'love sounds’...” Hana looked at him evilly for a few seconds. “Although now that we are all supposed to know, I plan to ask you a lot of questions!”
