Rae and Claire were hanging out at the Foundation Day Festival, and Rae bought a good luck charm for Claire, saying she hoped things went well with Thane. Claire thought that was strange.
“You’ve said you love me, right?” Claire asked. “Then why would you support my love for someone else?”
“Why not? You’re not interested in me anyway, so it doesn’t make a difference, does it? There’s no reason for me not to support you.”
“No, I mean, it’s fine to be supportive, but you don’t need to force yourself. It would be one thing if someone else brought it up, and you said you support it. But you were the one who brought it up this time, when we could have just as easily stayed on happier topics.”
“You might have a point. Still, it’s not like I plan to bring it up all the time. I just happened to see that amulet for sale.”
Claire sighed. “Fair enough, I guess.”
“Of course, you’re welcome to comfort me any time,” Rae offered. “Specifically with a hug or a kiss.”
Claire rolled her eyes. “I’ll think about it,” she said dryly.
