Chapter Text
“This is hopeless. How am I going to help her when she can't even understand simple math?”
The shock from Anya Forger's face was clearly evident after she heard her father's thoughts during their study time. It has already been two months since the youngster passed the entrance exams and interview for the prestigious school, Eden Academy, and she still couldn't seem to adjust herself when it came to her schoolwork. Loid Forger, her adoptive father, was already on the verge of giving up. He was feeling relentless and anxious, seemingly lost on how to achieve his objective for Operation Strix, which was to make Anya an imperial scholar.
“Anya, try to solve this one.” Loid pointed at the math question on the textbook, eyes glued on problem-filled papers displaying on the living room table.
Anya shakily took her pencil from beside her cup filled with hot chocolate and looked at the textbook also. Barely touching the paper with the tip of the pencil, she let her hand flail to the side as if surrendering, which unfortunately, made her hit the cup with the contents spilling all over the table.
At this point, Loid’s soul almost left his body when he realized how complex this would be. He was already tired from all the side missions he had to finish along with his work at the hospital as a psychiatrist, and teaching his daughter right after all those duties almost made his brain explode from the stress and frustration.
As Anya began to mutter countless apologies with unshed tears brimming on the edges of her eyes, Yor Forger stepped in and cleaned the whole mess before the drink would spill on the textbooks.
“Father, Anya is sorry for being dumb.” The little girl mumbled sadly, helping her mother clean the mess she made.
Loid shook his head while sighing deeply. “It's okay. I understand how hard it is considering your age. We’ll try again.”
“Loid, if I may suggest, maybe we can get her a tutor?” Yor said after picking up the spilled cup and placing it on a tray, glancing at her pretend husband with her head tilted slightly. “It wouldn't be too much to get one, right?”
Loid thought for a moment, his elbows placed on his thighs with his hands underneath his chin. He seemed to be considering this suggestion, as it would be easier and less stressful if they had someone to tutor Anya during her stay at the Eden Academy.
Not to mention, avoiding those Tonitrus volts that would signify an impending doom towards his mission.
“That's… not a bad idea, Yor.” The spy gave his wife a soft smile, nodding afterwards as he sat up straight. “Maybe there's someone in the academy who would be willing to tutor Anya. A student perhaps?”
Yor also nodded, her usual smile present on her face. “It would be easier for Anya to understand since her tutor would be at the same school as hers.”
“I’ll see what I can do.” Loid said, his soft smile faltering a little after casting his eyes towards Anya, who was sneakily trying to escape the living room and (probably) his father’s wrath.
When Anya’s eyes came in contact with Loid’s, she started to wave her hands around while shaking her head as if pleading with her father to just dismiss her actions.
“Anya.” Loid started, eyes never leaving hers. “If I’ll get you a tutor, would you promise me to study harder?”
Like a light bulb shining brightly on top of one’s head, Anya instantly had a bright idea right after hearing what her father had said.
A tutor from my school? Anya thought, her signature smirk and smug face now evident. Heh, maybe I should look for one myself tomorrow.
With that thought in mind, she nodded excitedly towards her father and gave a fake salute, “Sir, yes, sir!”
Loud just stared at his daughter, seemingly weirded out by her unusual grin that made him realize again how fatal this mission could get.
