Work Text:
Vi held her backpack against her chest as she opened the window to enter Cait’s room. Cait was at her desk, too concentrated in whatever she was doing to notice her arriving. She closed the window without making any sound and put her bag on the corner of the room. Vi took her hood off and walked silently to Caitlyn.
“Hey, cupcake, what are you doing there?”
Caitlyn jumped on the sound of her voice. She was ready to fight, but she realized it was just her girlfriend, then she sighed in relief. “Oh, it’s just you. Hi!” she smiled, turning her eyes back to the paper in her desk.
“Yep, and I’ve got something for you.” She walked back to reach her backpack and got a purple bowl with a pink tamper. She opened it and a tiny, purple cupcake got out from there. “ I put all my blood and sweat in this, so be kind, will you?”
“You cooked me a cupcake?” She looked at Vi, who had a childish smile just to mess up with her. She snorted. “You’re unbelievable.” She went to Vi, took the tiny cupcake from her hands, and got back behind her desk to finish whatever she was working on.
Vi didn’t say anything for a while, just admiring Caitlyn so concentrated in her work, frowning her forehead when she was thinking and keeping an eraser always next to her. Her hands were stained with some black residue, Vi noticed, and also were her cheeks.
“What are you doing, cupcake?” Vi asked, softly.
Caitlyn didn’t take her eyes off the paper. “ Nothing, it’s stupid.”
“Oh, come on.”
“ It’s not ready yet.” She answered, kind of shy.
“What is it?”
“I-.” She started. Instead of finishing her sentence, she handed the piece of paper she was so focused on to Vi, keeping her eyes anywhere else but at her.
Vi stayed quiet for a while, staring at the paper with an unreadable expression. She seemed mesmerized, or maybe just way too shocked to express some real thing.
“Is that-” She stopped for a second. “Is that me?”
“Well, yeah.” Caitlyn stared at her feet. “The sunlight was just too beautiful for me not to take the chance.”
Vi didn’t answer. She kept staring at the drawing, no expressions in her face.
“Can I keep it?”
“I haven't finished yet.”
“ Can I?” Vi now held a serious expression, or maybe a shocked expression, or maybe she was just angry. Cait was struggling to identify what was happening in her head, and Vi was struggling to conceal the feelings popping up in her chest. Caitlyn was about to say no, you can’t, but Vi was staring at that paper with such an intensity, she couldn’t just dare to say no to her when she was like this.
“Of course.”
Vi didn’t let go of the paper, instead, she made sure to give Caitlyn the strongest bear hug she could ever give her. Vi would never understand what she did to deserve such a pure, warm, caring thing. The only thing she was sure was that it was real, and that Caitlyn had just drawn her under the sunset, because the light was too beautiful for her to miss it. She sighed, trying to contain a scream or maybe a tear, she wasn't sure. The only thing she could do right now was to hold her sweet cupcake tighter in her arms.
When they let go of each other’s arms, Vi is still half paralyzed. How was she supposed to react to this? The whole situation (being in love with an enforcer and getting to actually date her and realize you’re in love with a person who was supposed to be your sworn enemy, I mean) (and also the drawing in her hands) scared her. But what scared her the most was that she knew she didn’t have to react. Caitlyn didn’t expect anything from her. That was new. Very new. She didn’t know what to do with that. She was, in fact, terrified.
That’s why when Vi leans her to her bed, she doesn’t complain about it. When Vi kisses her, she kisses her back, trying to get everything and nothing from her. And when she takes off her clothes and covers all of her skin with kisses, and when Vi touches her, smoothly, needy, desperately , she only opens her mouth to scream her name, to beg her for more and tell her she loves her so much. When they’re done, Caitlyn only has eyes on Vi, she holds all of her attention to her. Caitlyn could swear that the view of Vi covered in sweat, flushed by the heat, breathless and tired was better than any sun rising. Vi wasn’t different. It wasn’t like she usually did anything else but look at Caitlyn. She could die staring at her and she wouldn’t feel a thing but joy and gratefulness for having the chance to die looking at such a goddess view, and being held by the goddess herself. They were so lucky.
Caitlyn is half asleep when something crosses her mind. How could’ve her forget about that? She was such a bad girlfriend, she thinks. She turns back to make sure Vi is still awake and once she gets the confirmation, she gets up, goes to his desk and pick up the tiny cupcake back in her hands.
Vi asks, covering her eyes with an arm.“ Are you seriously gonna eat this right now?”
“Of course I am. You made it just for me.” She smiled, and took a bite from the purple cupcake. She chewed and chewed and chewed, all of this just to make Vi anxious, and, honestly, it was working.
Vi was talented at many, many things. She could shoot perfectly, she could climb anything easily, sometimes even with one hand, she could get herself tattooed, she could even kill with her pretty hands. But there was one thing she couldn’t do, and that was to cook. She tried a lot, though, because Caitlyn said she looked hot in an apron and because she managed to fry a not-so-bad egg, which Caitlyn praised her a lot for. If Caitlyn believed in her, then she must be good somehow.
Vi laughed nervously, “ So, it ain’t that bad, right?”
Vi watched as Caitlyn cleaned her lips from the topping and cake around, and waited, not that patiently, for her to say something. Caitlyn seemed to be surprised. “Actually, no, it isn’t.”
“Wait, really?” Vi was as surprised as her girlfriend. “Goddammit, I am a fucking badass!”
“ You’re so convinced.” Caitlyn finished the cupcake, turned off the light and laid down next to Vi, enjoying the sweet smell coming from her clothes.
“Well, I really am a badass.”
Caitlyn gave Vi a stare, kindly smiling for her. “Yes, you are.” She leaned up a little bit to kiss her girlfriend’s forehead. “Thank you for the cupcake.”
Son of a fucking bitch, Vi thought. She knew she was flushing, she felt her cheeks burning, so she put on her best bad bitch face and kissed the top of Caitlyn’s head. After a while, she said “I don’t like your new shampoo.”
“Fuck off.”
