Work Header

No say in this

Summary:

The Daleks and the Cybermen were sent into the void, Pete, Ricky and Jackie are in Pete's world. But Rose isn’t. She’s here, she’s safe, not trapped in the void with two of the worst species, not trapped forever in a world he could never get to again.

She was here with him.

Notes:

Full heads up, while I love Ten and Rose I haven’t rewatched season 2 in a while due to the emotional pain the last episode put me through, so if there are any mistakes that happen with the story (other than the divergence ofc) let me know.

I wrote this after I saw some fanart and was like “I could write something cute out of that” So yeah, I’ll insert the artwork at the end of the fic :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The Void started up again, the dark mass hovering above the ground. The Doctor made his way to the controls. He flicked a few switches and looked over at Rose, “Grab the lever and do not let go ok? The pull is going to be really strong so hold on very tight.”

Rose nodded, and walked over to the left lever and gripped it tight, her eyes following the Doctor as he made his way to the lever on the other side of the room and gripped it.

He looked over at her, a look in his eyes that told Rose they’d be ok, that they would beat the Daleks and the Cybermen and be safe.

“Ready?” He asked.

“Ready” They both pulled down the levers and the void activated and a strong force pulled the both of them towards the mass of pure nothing.

The Doctor, even with his superior biology, struggled to keep his grip on the lever, so he was terrified that if he looked over to the lever Rose was holding onto, she wouldn’t be there. But she was his responsibility, she was also the woman he cared about more than anything.

He forced himself to look over at the lever Rose was holding, relief washing over him when he saw she was still clinging onto the lever. There’s a faint whistling and he tears his gaze from her to the broken window Daleks and Cybermen are flying through just in time to see a Dalek - or at least a large piece of Dalek flying towards the void at an alarming pace completely out of control.

He looks back at Rose and yells, “Get closer to the wall!”

She goes wide eyed when she spots the Dalek hurtling closer, she doesn’t need 900 years of knowledge to know it will almost certainly crash dangerously close to her.

It’s a  struggle to push herself closer to the wall, the voids pull resisting any movement that isn’t towards the dark mass. But she finally manages to press herself mostly against the wall behind her, just in time before the Dalek came crashing against the walls by the broken window and hurdled its way into the void, debris being flung over the vacuumed room and cutting Rose’s knuckles and the backs of her hand.

She bite her lip to stop a pained yelp from escaping her, and locks eyes with the Doctor on the other side of the room. He looks terrified, knuckles white around the lever and his eyes wide, body being pulled horizontal much like hers.

That’s what gave her the strength to keep her grip on the lever. That 900 year old alien who had experienced more hurt and loss than any being ever should and still bounced his way around planets with that great big grin on his face. She would not leave him.

The universe had a say in so many things. But it got no say in this. She would not leave her Doctor.

The void could pull her in as much as it wanted, nothing could get her to let go of that lever.

Eventually the last of the Cybermen and Daleks were pulled into the void and the gravity in the room went back to normal, slowly lowering both the Doctor and Rose back down to the ground, he quickly shook his hands, they were sore from the tight grip, and then he walked over to his pink and yellow human in just a few steps immediately wrapping his arms around her waist and held her tightly, resting his chin on the top of her head.

“Rose, are you alright?’ He asks softly, words almost lost to the sound of the wind rushing outside, the world going back to normal after the pull of foreign gravity.

She nods. “I’m always alright when I’ve got you.”

The confession seemed to surprise her as much as it did him, he pulled away slightly, not enough to break the embrace but just enough so he could meet her eye and see the tears glistening in them.

She bit her lip and seemed to hesitate, clearly having some internal emotional turmoil, before looking away slightly and whispering.

“Doctor… I need to tell you something.”

He gives her a small smile, “Me too, you go first.”

She smiles a bit watery and takes a deep breath, “Doctor, I- I love you.”

He beams and hugs her tight, pressing a kiss to the top of her head, “I love you too Rose Tyler.”

They stand there hugging until UNIT came and told them they needed to leave so that UNIT forces could take a look around and survey the damages. Rose and Doctor agreed easily to leave after making them promise to contact them if UNIT found anything dangerous that was alien.

Once they made it back to the TARDIS they separated and took showers before meeting again in the library and discussing what this new discovery of their shared love for each other meant.

Hours later, though the Doctor would insist that time isn’t linear in the TARDIS enough for there to hours, they both fell asleep on the unfairly comfortable library couch, holding onto each other, both with small contented smiles on their faces.
