Chapter 1 : A Hit & Run

The wind rose, carrying a familiar sweet scent through the sacred grounds. The sounds of drinks clinking, light-hearted conversations and laughter echoes through the people and into the night air. The stars gleam, looking down at the people beneath their feet. Sacred isn't exactly a word you'd use for this summer camp, with its unusually dangerous camp activities or people with goat legs or horse bodies trotting around, but golden drops of ichor flows through everyone's blood here. God's blood. The physical strings of fate that are interwoven through holding hands, swearing oaths or a single, piercing glance through the soul of a stranger. In this case, the fateful encounter happens to be a hit and run.

Around the bend and through the shrubs, lies the Arts & Crafts hall. Its outer walls are covered in multicoloured paint, melding and swirling together into one beautiful mural of the heavens. The camp director allowed for only one side to be used, but rules don't seem to keep a bunch of bored and frankly mischievous kids in check. On the wall that's always in the shade, there's another mural, except it's made with spray paint and depicts some... not-so-nice things. This hall is subjected to weekly griefs, with children fighting over who's destroyed the mural at escalating levels. It either ends up with crying, full blown laughter or a declaration of a duel. The duel is usually cancelled instantly because the camp director usually hears wind of everything within the first 2 minutes of a statement leaving someone's lips. By the end of the day, the tension simmers back down to normal thanks to the efforts of the more responsible campers and camp staff. All's well that ends well, as they say. However, a determined camper with a will of iron and even sharper silver tongue doesn't really like to take his 'punishments' sitting down.

He grins with all his teeth, squatting down on the floor with a spray can in hand. Soft, gold hair falls across his face, blowing  his bangs away from his eyes. He wasn’t exactly trying to look sneaky, so he didn’t bother with the fact that most people could see him from a mile away in the dead of night. Besides, everyone was at the campfire, miles away, belting songs to their heart's content. No one would notice an insignificant kid like him sneak away, right? He chuckled at his own ‘genius’.

The boy's hands flew across the wall, writing down all the stupid obscenities or recent rumours he could think of off the top of his head. An owl hooted somewhere in the trees behind him, but he failed to flinch. The boy wouldn’t call himself a gossiper, but he loves nothing more than to see the people he hates have their social lives crumble around them. He could count all the bullshit people at camp with all his fingers and toes and he wants nothing more than to taunt the shit out of them, or make their lives hell.

He was so engrossed in his work, that he jumped out of his skin the minute he heard a snap of some twigs and a small, sharp, inhale from somewhere. A camper with striking golden eyes stepped out from the side of the building, mid-walk. And they’re a complete. stranger.

The golden haired boy faltered, accidentally ruined one of his sketches, and did a double take, eyes wide. The stranger stared back at him with equal confusion, quirking his brow. He had stopped walking to gawk at the boy in front of him and then glance at the obscenities he was writing with a small grimace. He held a coke drink in his hands, a copy of the ‘Official Camp Sing-a-long Guide’ under his arm.

An early returner from the campfire.

The vandalising boy grit his teeth and abruptly got off the ground, not bothering to pat himself down. The one thing he probably hated more than getting caught was having some bullshit, goody-two-shoes snitch on him. Yeah, that’s exactly what the stranger was gonna do. Snitch on him to someone and have him be thrown around again for a punishment. His grin faltered, but never went away. Nuh uh. Not on his watch. He isn’t going to take that chance.

The golden eyed boy was startled by the sudden movement, and took a step back. Whatever happened next went too quickly for the stranger to see.

But he felt it. And it felt like the toughest and roughest thing he had yet to encounter here. It had his body suddenly crumple to the floor before he could even react. He spilled a little coke and lost hold of his book as he promptly got punched in the face by a complete stranger on his way back to his cabin. Intenrally, he berates himself for taking the shortcut route. Even in a place like there are still some shady ass people he's gotta look out for. He groans and coughs, blinking slowly. But before he could get a proper grip on himself, his perpretraor has already run off somewhere. The golden-eyed boy tried to glance around, but he was alreayd farrr out of sigh.

The golden eyed boy sighed and laid himself down on the grass, still dizzy, wondering what the hell he just witnessed.
