Embrace Like Home

Summary:

Koga and Leon both hate thunderstorms, the volume unbearable and stressful. Rei comes to the rescue, sending Adonis to comfort him, the only one Koga finds himself vulnerable with.

Work Text:

BOOM

The thunder roared, the volume harshly loud, as if posing a threat to any silent creature nearby. Koga flinched, a fluffy corgi clinging to him as well. Both were huddled up in a corner of the room, Koga running his hands through Leon’s fur. The pup was trembling, the same as Koga.

CRACK

Koga jumped again, did a tree fall? No, it wasn’t loud enough. Maybe a tree branch? It still sounded too close for comfort. Koga hugged Leon tighter, burying his face into the soft fur, inhaling the comfort of Leon’s presence. The corgi did the same, relishing in his owner's protection and comfort.

Koga utterly hated thunderstorms. They were painfully loud, making him constantly uneasy and stressed. The boy sighed, feeling pathetic about his fears. He was glad his roommate, Tatsumi, was busy today, but also wished for some kind of protection or comfort. His sharp golden eyes trailed to his phone, picking it up as the screen lit up. Koga went through his contacts, contemplating who he should rely on. His seniors were already busy, and he didn’t want to seem too clingy with Adonis. He adored the boy for his strength and sincerity, almost envious of his physical power. As Koga was thinking, his phone vibrated, signaling a notification. It was Rei.

Kogaaa! I am quite aware of your hatred for thunderstorms, and so I called up your dearest Adonis to keep you company! No need to thank me.~ Enjoy your evening together!”

Koga glared at the message, half wanting to punch Rei for bothering Adonis like this, but half relieved he didn’t have to bother Adonis himself. He sighed, now purposefully ignoring the ‘dearest’ part. Koga decided to leave Rei on read, not in the mood to fuel his shenanigans with him. Or, At least that’s what he wanted himself to believe. A loud cry of thunder roared ferociously once more, causing Koga to drop his phone and for Leon to jump into his embrace. Koga groaned in frustration, his body was only becoming more overwhelmed and stressed by the sensory hell that thunderstorms were.

As Koga was clinging to Leon, cursing under his breath about how ‘stupid this is,’ a soft knock emerged from his door.

“Oogami, are you in there?” a worried voice called, whom Koga already knew.

As Koga was about to speak, Leon let out a loud bark, jumping out of Koga’s arms and now pawing at the door. Beyond excited for his favorite visitor.

“Yeah yeah. Leon, get back here!”

Koga stands up, but freezes as thunder roars outside once more. Leon immediately running back to his owner for comfort.

The person from behind the door senses the shift in the air, letting themselves in.

“Oogami,” he calls, a small smile on his face.

“Adonis,” Koga mumbles in response, looking away in embarrassment.

Adonis steps closer cautiously, hoping to not startle Koga or his beloved dog. Leon feels relaxed, happily hopping towards the taller boy, barking for attention. Adonis chuckles in response, showering the corgi with a few pets.

“Good boy, Leon. Ah-?”

Leon becomes overjoyed, hopping into Adonis’s lap as he kneels down, now licking his face. Causing the boy to squirm in confusion from the sudden display of affection.

“Oi, Leon! You’re gonna overwhelm him!”

Koga carefully prys away Leon, having the pup settle down in between both him and Adonis.

“Sorry ‘bout that. Uhm, thanks for comin’,” Koga mutters, fidgeting with Leon’s fur as a distraction.

Adonis only smiles, shaking his head.

“It’s no problem. I’m glad seeing Leon happy after-”

Another strike of thunder causes the room to shake, and both Koga and Leon yelp in surprise. Leon buries himself back into Koga’s lap as the anxious boy trembles harder.

Adonis quickly takes notice of these reactions, feeling his heart ache with concern. He opens his arms, gesturing to Koga, hoping to welcome him into a comforting hug.

“I’ll be fine,” Koga protests, clinging to Leon a bit tighter.

Adonis frowns, shaking his head before speaking, “Oogami, you’re clearly stressed. Sakuma-senpai was really serious when he told me about your situation with storms. You’re not okay. Please, allow me to help?”

Adonis pleaded desperately, leaning closer to Koga. The silver haired boy flinched slightly, looking away and sighing.

“Fine! Ya never leave me be!” Koga whines, hesitantly trying to hug Adonis.

Adonis smiled once more, feeling happy and chuckling. He quickly wraps his arms around Koga, trapping him in a warm and protective embrace. Koga almost immediately melts, feeling as safe as he did at home. He shut his eyes, making sure to still pet Leon for comfort.

“Should we have Leon in the middle? I don’t want to crush him on accident,” Adonis mumbles, still feeling anxious with anything smaller than him.

“Leon’s a strong ‘n good dog! He might feel better even. Here…”

Koga pulled away, readjusting their positions now. Leon sat between the two, Koga and Adonis facing each other.

“This should kinda work? Leon really likes ya anyways,” Koga stated proudly with a grin.

Adonis’s cheeks felt warm, a reaction he doesn’t understand. Koga notices the darker red visible but stays quiet, internally panicking over the adorable response. His thoughts are interrupted, the thunder once again making its awfully menacing presence known. Leon is much quieter, feeling safe, but Koga still jolts.

Adonis brings Koga closer, scooping him onto his lap, as Leon sat on Koga’s.

“H-Hey?! This ain’t necessary!” Koga growled, his cheeks becoming hot.

Adonis’s grip on Koga became stronger as he shook his head.

“Please, allow me to comfort you,” Adonis pleaded once more, his gaze soft and begging.

Koga hated how he felt weak to that gaze, groaning and giving in. He clung a bit tighter now, feeling Leon nuzzling into his lap as well.

“Fine, whatever…”

“Thank you, Oogami.”

The room settled down, an air of slightly awkward yet comforting silence taking over. The thunder cracked still, Leon seemed much more relaxed but Koga continued to flinch and groan. Adonis ran his hands through the trembling boy’s hair, his soft locks feeling comforting to touch. Koga stirred from the touch, not liking how good it felt.

“Is this all really that necessary?!” Koga whined once more, a faint pout visible.

Adonis let out a soft laugh, finding a bit of amusement from Koga’s reactions. He only hugged Koga tighter, his chin resting on Koga’s shoulder. His breath brushing against Koga’s ear.

“It’s comfortable, is it not?” Adonis inquired, a bit nervous now.

“So what if it is?!”

“Then this is doing its job.”

“That doesn’t explain shit!”

“Shhh…”

Koga shivered, Adonis’s breath tickling his ear and causing him to squirm. Adonis moved away slightly, still keeping his hold firm and secure. Koga jolted once more, the thunder not letting up just yet.

“Stupid ass thunder. Leon, how’re ya doin’? Oh.”

Koga’s eyes landed on the now sleeping pup, curled up between the two boys' bodies. All warm and cozy. Koga smiled, giving a few pets to further soothe the relaxed dog.

Adonis’s eyes lingered on Koga’s face, never accustomed to the soft expression Koga’s features could display. He was always so rough and aggressive, perhaps even a bit rude without realizing. Curious, Adonis leaned closer, as if wanting a better look to confirm that his mind wasn’t playing tricks on him.

Koga felt the sudden shift, tilting his head to the side.

“What? Somethin’ with my face?”

“Oh, no no. It’s always so surprising.”

“Surprising? What?”

“That smile.”

Koga froze, once again feeling the heat rise to his face. “The hell is he complimentin’ me for?! ‘N with that damn smile too?! He’s the one with the-” Koga snapped out of his thoughts, the thunder reminding the boys of its presence.

“I swear. One of these days I’m gonna fuckin’ kill thunder,” Koga grumbled, never replying to Adonis’s prior comment.

Adonis hummed, stuck in thought.

“Would that be possible?”

“Obviously not! Ya can’t kill thunder! Cuz if ya could, I would’ve already beat its ass!”

Adonis giggled, finding the response a bit funny. Koga looked away, pouting as his body once again felt warm and gooey.

“Well, Oogami,” Adonis called, an idea popping into his head.

“Huh? What?” Koga questioned, his head tilted in curiosity.

“Is it the sound that bothers you the most?”

“Well, yeah?”

“Can’t we block it out? That would help, right?”

“I guess ya got a point. But how?”

Adonis paused, resting his head on Koga’s shoulder for a moment as he tried to brainstorm.

Koga jumped a little from the movement, but didn’t push Adonis away. He wasn’t going to admit it, but Adonis’s hugs were probably ‘the damn best.’

“How about playing music? Yuuki has these headphones with ‘noise canceling,’ if that’s what it is. It blocks Morisawa-senpai and I out when he games, making it a bit harder to call for him. But, it may prove helpful with your situation?”

Koga took a moment to process, Adonis did have a good idea. But it’s not like he had access to a pair right here, right now.

“I guess it’s a good idea. If that four-eyed bean sprout gives ya trouble, tell me. I’ll take care of him.”

“There’s no need for anything rash, Oogami. And if it may help, I can ask Yuuki to borrow them. He had mentioned I could try it out.”

Koga grumbled, he didn’t want to rely on someone else! Letting himself get taken cared of by Adonis was enough, but it felt humiliating needing to rely on Makoto.

“I’ll be fine.”

“Oogami. Please consider.”

As if on cue, another harsh cry of thunder erupted once more. Koga jumped once again, getting more annoyed than scared by his reactions now.

“Ugh, fine! Don’t ya dare tell him it’s for me. Got it?!”

“Of course, Oogami. Just a moment.”

Adonis carefully pried himself away, setting Koga down on the floor, rather than his lap. His movements were gentle and cautious, worried eyes glued to the resting corgi in Koga’s lap. Quickly, Adonis left Koga’s dorm, determined to help his beloved unit mate out. Koga clung to the sleeping Leon, feeling a bit nervous now that Adonis was gone. He held his breath, waiting for Adonis to return.

Koga’s head was spinning, his breathing rough and ragged. The boy clung to Leon desperately, trembling uncontrollably. The world around him felt too loud, yet he felt distanced and confused. Koga couldn’t focus, not on himself or his surroundings. The only thoughts running through his head were of danger and warning - he wasn’t safe.

Thunder roared once more, but to Koga, it no longer sounded like thunder. It sounded worse, his mind racing in confusion, was he dying? He couldn’t tell. His hand found his way to his chest, clutching the fabric of his shirt tightly, now almost tearing it. He began to choke on his harsh gasps for air, tears starting to form in his eyes. How did something so small become so utterly unbearable?

Everything hurt. Koga’s chest hurt, his head hurt, his body hurt, every inch of him aching. The tight squeezing on Leon began to wake the corgi, his beady eyes staring up at his owner in worry. Leon barked, hoping to grab Koga’s attention in some way, but it was useless. Koga sunk into his shirt, crying and shaking helplessly. He knew his own limits, but refused to admit so. The constant overwhelming sounds would eventually get to the boy, his mind going into a state of panic. Ignoring his needs, Koga found himself deep into a panic attack once more. He felt pathetic, curling up into a ball. If he became as small as he could, he’d be safe. At least, that’s what he hoped.

Leon nuzzled Koga’s face, in a way trying to bring his beloved owner some security. And in turn, bring himself comfort. Now awake, Leon clung to Koga, no longer in the protective state of sleep.

The door creaked open, the sudden movement jerking Leon alert, the pup quickly running to the door.

Adonis was mid opening the door; noticing a worried Leon who was desperately pawing at his leg. At first glance, Adonis assumed the corgi wanted extra attention, but his eyes quickly found way to the panic-ridden Koga. He was trembling, gasping for air, and his eyes wet with tears.

Terribly concerned, Adonis quickly yet gently approached Koga, careful to not make any sudden sounds or rough movements that might be deemed startling. Adonis kneeled in front of Koga, his expression painted with one of worry, perhaps mild fear for what Koga was going through.

“Oogami?” Adonis gently called out, his voice barely above a whisper, shaking in concern.

No response, Koga wasn’t present.

“Oogami?” Adonis called out once again, his voice a bit louder now.

When Koga continued to remain unresponsive, Adonis decided he might need to grab his dearest friend’s attention in a different way. Adonis placed a firm yet gentle hand on Koga’s shoulder, carefully shaking him.

“Oogami, can you hear me? You’re okay, I promise you. You’re safe,” Adonis attempted to reassure, but his tone came out pleading, his worry slipping through.

Koga seemed to respond, even if it was mild. He stirred from the sudden touch, his eyes looking around vacantly. His gaze landed on Adonis, but it was clear he wasn’t processing who was in front of him. A muffled sound left his lips, incoherent gibberish, but enough to express himself.

“Oogami,” Adonis muttered desperately.

His hand trailed away from Koga’s shoulder, now moving lower to his back and rubbing slow circles. Koga once again stirred, but his responses and reactions were lackluster. Adonis frowned, he was upset. Upset at himself for not knowing how to help Koga. What good was he if he wanted to protect people, but was failing to protect someone so utterly dear to him?

A sudden touch on Adonis’s arm catches him off guard, snapping him out of his self deprecating thoughts. At first, he thought it was Koga, but the touch was coming in contact with his free arm, not the one at work on Koga’s back. It is was Leon, playing with a box, the box Adonis had unknowingly dropped as his mind was flooded with worry for Koga.

The headphones,” he thought, moving quickly as he remembered why he had initially left.

Carefully, Adonis took the box, opening it up and examining the contents. Makoto had given Adonis rundown of the functions of the headphones, nerding out a bit too much, leaving Adonis to deal with many long rambles. Leon watches curiously, confused of this new object.

“This should help Oogami a little… I hope,” Adonis mumbled the last part to himself, deep down he was afraid Koga wouldn’t ground and he’d have to wait and watch his friend trembling in panic.

Adonis took out the headphones, turning them on and connecting them to his phone. He carefully placed them on Koga, playing one of Koga’s many songs that he’d play or talk about in the music room. Even during their workouts, Koga insisted on picking music, Adonis’s taste ‘too gentle,’ where Koga wanted to show off all the music he adored.

The guitar, bass, drums, vocals, all of it flooded Koga’s mind. Adonis kept the volume low, hoping it was soft on Koga’s ears. He was too anxious to take off the headphones and check for himself, not wanting to accidentally make the situation worse and hurt Koga.

Koga’s trembling became less apparent, and he began to stir a bit more. Adonis continued to remain nearby, rubbing circles on his back. Even Leon had joined in, settling down right beside Koga, looking up at him with hopeful eyes.

“What the hell… Have I lost it? Am I dead?” Koga questioned, his tone one of confusion, the music that was suddenly playing left him lost.

“You’re not dead, Oogami,” Adonis quickly replied, making sure to be gentle but also speaking a bit louder to be heard through the headphones.

Koga stared blankly, slowly processing. He sat up, looking around, trying to find the source of the music. It felt nice, the world was quieter, but it put Koga on edge as he couldn’t figure out the source.

Adonis points at his own ears, hinting that Koga should feel around that area on himself.

“What? My ears?”

Confused, Koga’s hands reached for his ears. Or, he tried to, his hands feeling the headphones covering his ears instead. Koga jolts, taken aback by the unexpected object. And soon, it clicks. It was the headphones Adonis had left to bring, and were now bringing Koga a bit of comfort. When the thunder rang out this time, Koga would barely react. Now, Leon jumping into his owner's lap for security once again.

Adonis’s cheeks felt warm, a smile tugging at his lips. A feeling of comfort and warmth filled his chest, he was relieved to see Koga much more relaxed than before. A part of him was scared Koga would suddenly shut down again, but he tried to believe and think rationally.

“Feeling better?” Adonis asked, his smile broadening as Leon started to nuzzle into him for attention.

Koga stared back, not fully hearing him. He pulled aside one of the cuffs, wanting to hear Adonis. He wouldn’t mind listening to his voice, he never did.

“Sorry, what’d ya say?”

“Are you feeling better, Oogami?”

“Oh. Yeah, yeah I am. Thanks, man.”

Adonis continued to smile, his expression was so soft, even adorable. Koga stared at his smile, perhaps for too long as Adonis was now looking confused. Embarrassed, Koga quickly looked away, petting Leon a bit more frantically. The pup sitting between the two boys, getting spoiled with pets from both sides.

Adonis took note of the quick reaction, but decided to not comment on it. He didn’t want to accidentally bother Koga in such a vulnerable state. Silence filled the room, comforting silence. The three of them close together. Adonis found himself leaning closer to Koga, resting his head on Koga’s shoulder. Koga jumped, confused. He brushed Adonis’s hair out of his face, being met with an exhausted and sleepy Adonis.

Leon noticed the shift in the atmosphere, deciding it was sleep time for real. The corgi jumped into Koga’s lap, nuzzling into the boy. Koga tensed up slightly, confused by the sudden physical contact. The music brought him to relax quickly, his eyes on Adonis as Leon got comfy.

“Why’re ya-?”

“Please.”

Adonis mumbled his plea, clinging to Koga’s arm. His face burrowed into Koga’s shoulder. All of that worrying had caught up to Adonis, now exhausted and craving affection.

Koga grumbled, trying to cover up the blush forming at his cheeks. He wanted to push Adonis away, but it felt too rude. He didn’t enjoy the affection! He just wanted to comfort Adonis in return! Koga would tell himself excuses, his eyes never leaving Adonis as he drifts off.

Leon had fallen asleep as well, Koga watching over the two.

Curiosity suddenly overtook Koga, he had an urge. Cautiously, his hand reached for Adonis’s hair, gently starting to play with it. Adonis stirred in his sleep, not awakening. Instead, leaning into the touch and clinging to Koga a bit more. “Soft,” Koga thought to himself, did Adonis do the same to him since his hair was soft? Koga shook his head, not wanting to think too deeply about Adonis’s methods with care and affection. It was just his habit, nothing more, just how he grew up. Koga secretly wished for something more, an embrace only meant to be shared by the two.

As Koga’s thoughts ran wild, his face grew redder. Adonis’s soft snores not helping Koga’s situation, he only grew more flustered. Koga was overwhelmed with warm feelings, no longer even processing the music playing in his headphones. Koga sighed, caressing Adonis’s hair with one hand and Leon’s fur with the other. “I’m just returning the favor.” is what he’d tell himself, until the moment would come to an end. For now, he’d allow an ounce of vulnerability and curiosity, Adonis wouldn’t know.

As Adonis melted into Koga’s sudden affections, a smile crept onto his lips. The current situation much cozier, which all parties found themselves relishing. They were safe within each others embrace and touch, for as long as they wanted. Forever, if they so desired.
