Work Text:
Kayn dislikes sweets, especially chocolate.
But when it came to his friend, he could never say no to someone like him.
Ezreal, always the class president, that one student with constant straight As, the most popular boy in school despite not being in any sports teams. He was the definition of a perfect student. If you had any questions that you couldn’t answer, he probably could. But Kayn knew Ezreal wasn’t really a smart, know-it all student, he’s seen most, if not all of his flaws. He was clumsy, cowardly whenever he knows he would lose, and most importantly, a grade A brat. But that just makes him all the more endearing to Kayn.
Despite how clueless he is, Ezreal somehow manages to be cute and capture everybody’s heart, girl or boy. But how could they not? He was the definition of beautiful, the type you would see on billboards and ads. His voice was calming yet energetic, I guess he would make a really good popstar. Kayn wonders. I’d be his biggest fan if so.
Kayn was one of Ezreal’s closest friends, but a friend who honestly treads the line between dating or not. They always joke with each other, in quite… flirty ways, but Kayn always wrote it off as Ez’s personality, and Ezreal wrote it off as Kayn’s. Ezreal isn’t quite the centre of Kayn’s world, per-se, but whatever he wants Kayn to do, he will listen.
Which was how he ended up in this situation.
Ezreal, his oh-so pretty face in front of his, a look of question spelt out on his face. His green hair falling over his shoulders as he tilts his head ever so slightly, his lashes fluttering as he blinked, looking akin to a dog tilting their head in wonder. Kayn was kind of focusing on his work, as in, doodling random things, but was quickly snapped out of his little dream as his friend flicked his forehead.
“Hello~? Earth to Mr. Shieda!” Ezreal sweetly sung out as Kayn lifted his head, only to meet the enchanting amber eyes that never fails to leave him in awe. “Oh, so you are awake!” Ezreal chuckles. The boy in front of him suddenly whips out a thin cardboard box from out of nowhere, his voice raising in tone. “Surprise!”
Kayn gazed at Ezreal with a bewildered look. “What is this for?” He questions, eyes narrowing in suspicion. He knew whenever Ezreal had a devious prank that he wanted to pull off on someone, and Kayn just so happens to be one Ezreal has now chosen to be the victim of his pranks. Lux was smart enough to never give in to Ezreal’s shenanigans despite how cute he can get when pleading, and Aphelios would rather hang out with Sett than be pranked by Ezreal. Kayn won’t deny though, he doesn’t mind the boy bothering him, not at all.
Ezreal stood straight and placed his hands on his sides, cheeks puffed. “Haven’t you seen? The pocky game.”
“The what game?” Kayn says flatly.
“The! Pocky! Game!” Ezreal repeats, emphasising each word, almost as if he’s shouting. Surely, whoever was in the classroom next door, they would’ve heard Ezreal’s unnecessarily loud talking. That certainly wont bite them back later.
“Geez, quiet down! I heard you the first time!” Kayn huffs, before snatching the box from Ezreal’s hands, much to his friends’ dismay.
“Hey-“
“How do you win? This is just a snack.” Kayn says suspiciously. He does not like the direction this is going. The snack is a stick covered in chocolate, just what Kayn hates. Did Ezreal really want Kayn to eat this? As a game?
“Seriously? Have you never seen this on twitter? No wonder Aphelios says you live under a rock, no matter how high-and-mighty you act.” Ezreal sighs, before reaching for the box and taking out a stick, pulling out a chair, and sitting on it in front of Kayn’s desk. Before Kayn can process what the heck is happening, Ezreal leans in closer to Kayn, his hair falling over his shoulders, his eyes narrowed in a cheeky look. Awestruck, Kayn sits still, and Ezreal quickly puts a stick of pocky in his mouth, the side with no chocolate.
“You play it like this.” Ezreal shoots Kayn a smug smile. “We both eat the stick at the same time, and whoever gives first, the other wins.”
Well, Kayn supposes its the end of the line now.
This weasel certainly has caught him in a trap.
“Why the worried look, hmm? Scared you’ll lose? I thought you weren’t a sore loser ,” Ezreal taunts, not knowing the dangerous territory he had just stumbled upon. Kayn takes a mental note to make him pay back later. Ezreal knows Kayn isn't one to take losing lightly.
Not able to answer due to the pocky slotted in his mouth, Kayn gives an expectant grumble. He doesn’t really know what that grumble means, but it seems Ezreal interpreted it as a yes .
The green haired boy’s grin grows wider, before his eyes narrow. “Ooh, sure, I’ll definitely win though.” He slowly began to lean forward towards Kayn, so slowly that Kayn held his breath in silent anticipation. Ezreal gently tucked some of his green hair behind his ears, before slowly parting his lips and biting down on the pocky, and his eyes rose to meet Kayn’s. Kayn swears he felt his breath hitch in his throat. He hopes that Ezreal closed the door when he entered.
Even while bit down on the stick of chocolate, the little brat still flashes him a smirk, completely oblivious to how Kayn was dying on the inside. He begins to bite down further, inching closer to Kayn’s face. He guesses he just has to continue now. There was no turning back. He never loses.
Kayn too also begins to scoot forward, mindful of the chocolate. He sure hopes that Ezreal will apologize deeply for making him eat chocolate. One thing Kayn notices is .. how Ezreal’s expression shifts from one of cocky boldness, to a slight unease. Did this brat seriously not think Kayn would actually commit to the game? Kayn should not have gotten distracted earlier. Despite how confident Ezreal may act, the facade fades in no time if things goes in the opposite direction. No matter how much he likes this boy, he can never just hand him a free win.
Kayn takes a large bite, his face so incredibly close to Ez’s. He can feel and hear Ezreal’s soft breathing… or rather, quickened? Theres no denying it. Ezreal is getting nervous, his face slightly brighter. Kayn’s mouth curls to a cruel smile. The game just became much more interesting. Kayn leans in closer, tilting his head slightly so he doesn’t bump noses with Ezreal, and now, surely, he would back out, right?
Crunch . He hears Ezreal bite down on the chocolate again. It seems like he’s doubling down. Kayn bites down again to match Ezreal. The bitter sweetness of the chocolate continues to flood his mouth. Kayn can almost see the thin sweat form on Ezreal’s head. He raises his gaze to try and meet Ezreal’s again, trying to tell him, its over for you.
Ezreal never stated what happened if they got to the end. He never said what would happen if none of them gave up. Did he want this to happen from the start? Lord knows there is no end to his tricks, despite how cowardly he may be sometimes. Whatever. Lets give this boy what he wants . Lets give in to his tricks.
Kayn gets up from his seat, the chair squeaking against the polished wooden floor as he pushed forward, the pocky being forgotten. Ezreal’s mouth widens in surprise, the pocky dropping to the desk, as their lips meet quickly. It wasnt a long kiss, if anything, it was just a small peck, but despite the shortness of it, Kayn still tastes the sweetness of the chocolate of his mouth. Kayn backs off, sitting back down on the chair that was now a bit farther from the desk. He looked up at Ez with an expressionless gaze, trying his best to hide what he felt. His friend on the other hand, looked like a deer in headlights, eyes wide and mouth agape.
Kayn smirks smugly before straightening himself. “Seems like you lost Ez, you dropped the pocky first.” He raises his hands to a shrug expression, like the moment that just happened didn’t mean much. Though the only thing he is focusing on right now is Ezreal’s ragged breathing, as if he just ran a marathon, despite only being lightly kissed. A light blush dusted his cheeks, his eyes closed slightly as if he were acting shy. He was never shy, though, except now , Kayn supposes.
Kayn was practically dying on the inside, his mind relishing how the kiss made Ezreal a bumbling embarrassed mess. He noted how his friend brought his hands to his face, fingers tracing his lips where they met Kayn’s. Kayn swears he can hear Ezreal’s heartbeat, feel how flustered Ezreal feels. I wish I could snap a picture of this moment to put on my wall. Kayn loved keeping mementos of moments he wants to savour. This moment is not the usual though, maybe even better than anything else he had until now.
Kayn was snapped out of his trance as he heard a chuckle from the direction of the doorway. Oh my god. Did Ezreal seriously not close the door? He slowly turned his head with dread and he saw both Sett and Phel leaning by the doorway, phones held. “Well, this isn't much of a surprise, is it?” Sett laughs out. Ezreal snaps his head in their direction, before quickly getting up to chase the two. The chair he sat on almost collapses with how fast he ran off it.
“PHEL! I told you not to come here!” Ezreal stuttered out, his face now fully red. “Oh my god, did you take a fucking picture? Delete that! Right now!” Ezreal lightly smacked Phel on the back before being stopped by Sett.
Kayn snickers before getting out of his seat and sauntering towards his friends. “Hey Phel, mind sending me that? For memory purposes, you know.”
Ezreal jerks his head towards Kayn, eyes ablaze with embarrassment. “Are you crazy!? No way! Phel, don’t send it to him!” Kayn chuckles and pats Ez on the head. “Yeah sure. No way you’re not asking for them later, prince. Wasnt that your whole intention?”
Ezreal pauses, his mouth open. “N-no?! I never thought you’d… actually… AGHH! Oh my gosh, I think I might die!”
Phel bursts out into silent laughter before quickly typing a message on his notes app to Kayn.
”He loves talking about you. It was a long way coming.” The note read.
“Oh my GOD Phel no! THIS WAS BETWEEN YOU AND ME!!!!” Ezreal could honestly shrivel up and die from embarrassment.
Kayn smiled a knowing smile. He supposes he wasnt alone. “Well, isnt that funny?” Kayn turns towards Sett. “Same with me and him.” Sett briskly replies. “Honestly couldn’t stand it anymore.”
Ezreal pauses and looks up with a shy look towards Kayn. “Really? So I didn't need to embarrass myself?”
Kayn ponders for a moment. Was he ever planning to confess to Ezreal? Most likely, never. His pride was more important to him than confessing a silly expression of love to someone. But for someone like Ezreal? Who he knows is obsessed with fantastical romances? Definitely wouldve been pining for a K-Drama esque confession, one worthy to start with “once upon a time” and end with “they lived happily ever after”. Not this … chaotic mess. Whatever the fact, at least they knew now.
“Would've happened sooner or later anyways.” Kayn shrugged nonchalantly.
Ezreal let out a tired and defeated sigh. “Guess so. Yeah. You won. I do like you.”
Kayn smiled brightly, pushing Ez’s green hair aside to look at him clearly. “Yeah, same goes here, little prince.”
Aphelios rolled his eyes and Sett let out a hearty laugh. “All right you two lovebirds, now that thats done and over with, who’s up for some Karaoke night?” Sett glanced over to Phel apologetically. “Sorry Phel.”
”Its fine, I’ll invite Yone and K’sante to sing on my part.”
“Ooh! Sure! Kayn, lets duet ‘You’re my Museum’ all night!” Ezreal chirps in, his embarrassment completely faded, except the slight pink on his cheeks.
“Again?! We sang that song like 100 times last time! Phel wanted to rip his EARS off! And it isn’t even a duet song!”
“Sucks to suck! We all know my voice is amazing. His loss for not enjoying it. And we know you enjoy singing with me~” Ezreal grinned before quickly grabbing Kayn’s hand. “Cmon, lets go find Yone! He’s probably still busy either way student pres stuff.” Ez giggled before pulling Kayn along with him as he ran out of the classroom.
“Well, there they go. Shall we book a room for us?” Sett sighed happily. Phel nodded.
”Sure.”
