Y'jhimei pulls a book from her side, writing in it with a quill. Said book glows and seconds later a small blue creature is summoned.
Prompto’s eyes light up at the sight of it. It’s a look Noctis recognises well. It always happens whenever he’s greeted by a cute animal.
“Awww~” he coos and sits on his haunches, offering a hand to the creature. “Who’s this little guy?”
His voice raises in pitch. It’s the voice again reserved for animals or babies.
“Carbuncle.” Y'jhimei smiles.
Noctis chokes on his own air hearing that.
This creature isn’t Carby. No it isn’t his Carby. His has the ruby horn, looks more fennec fox like. This one isn’t.
It’s chubby-ish and what Prompto would class as “friend shaped.”
“Is this little guy like your Carby, Noct?” Prompto asks.
“...No,” the Prince admits, staring at the creature.
“I can summon another.” Y'jhimei announces and writes in her book again, making the carbuncle vanish to Prompto’s disappointment.
Seconds later, a ruby one appears and he brightens up.
“Can I pet him?” he asks.
Y'jhimei nods.
“Go behind the ears. He likes that.”
Prompto does so, almost melting when the creature leans it’s head into his touch.
“Noct look~” he practically almost squeals.
Noctis can’t help but smile at the scene.
“Do you have any more?” he asks.
“I don’t have topaz available yet…I only have so many spells, I’m not even a summoner yet.” Y'jhimei’s ears droop a tad after that.
“What spells do you have?” Prompto asks, still scratching behind the ruby carbuncles' ear.
“Mostly healing spells, a shield spell, elemental spell and attack for my ruby carbuncle.”
Prompto looks excited almost hearing that.
“You’re like one of those mages from an rpg.” he beams. “So cool.”
Y'jhimei’s ears twitch and she gives him a puzzled look.
“Are pee gee?”
“Prom they don’t even have cameras in their world. She doesn’t know what video games are either.”
Prompto gasps at that.
“No cameras?! No games?!” he sags. “Gods I’d die.”
Y'jhimei sits next to him and pats his back. He glances up at her which startles her before looking down at the book back on her hip.
“Could I look at your magic book? Or is that something I’m not supposed to ask? It just looks so cool.”
Y'jhimei laughs and shakes her head, picking the book up and handing it over.
“It’s called a grimoire and you can look.”
Prompto opens the green and golden book and is greeted to an unfamiliar language and symbols he doesn’t understand.
Still he eagerly flicks through it, pointing at each thing and asking what it is. Y'jhimei happily and just as eagerly explains.
Noctis watches the pair for a second before heading over and listening to the explanations. Granted it’s more of an excuse to pat the carbuncle that everyone can see for once.
He doesn’t think he’d be great at using a spell book. Having to write stuff down in order to make some spells happen sounds like hell. He’d probably end up knocked on his arse before he’d finished writing.
