Work Text:

"Its a nice night, ain't it?" Brock thought to himself. It was a long day of drills that left him feeling tired, but satisfied. And now, it was him, the love of his life, and his dog doing the best thing ever: nothing.

Brock was sitting on the porch of the apartment he shared with Clay, who was sitting in the V of his legs. The porch was too small for furniture, but it didn't matter, it fit both of them and Pepper, who was resting in Clay's lap with her head on Brock's thigh. They were sharing a cigarette between the two of them, and saying nothing. Together, they basked in the peace each other offered and the comforting silence that grew. Suddenly he felt something heavy against his shoulder.

It was Clay, who had fallen asleep. Brock crushed the cigarette, and gently rearranged the two dead weights in his lap, tucking Clay sideways in his arms and lap, and Pepper on his outstretched leg. "How did I ever get so fucking lucky?" He wondered to himself.

Brock didn't think himself to be a bad person, but he's seen and done not so great things for the sake of the greater good, just like Clay has, but his lover felt...different. Clay had tough walls, but he still looked at life as something that was filled with enough good to make up the bad. Brock, and the rest of the team, tried to keep him like that, to prevent him from becoming too jaded and losing that. He also knew that Brian had instilled that kind of thinking into Clay, and the loss of him had almost taken that from him.

But....lucky. What a terrible word to describe the best thing thing that has ever happened to him. That smile, that laugh, those big blue eyes that showed every emotion when you knew them well enough and those messy blonde curls that made Brock's fingers itch to run through them, all components of the love of his life. He knew that he was gonna marry Clay from halfway through their first date, even after they had been teammates for a while. The ring was hidden in Cerb's extra gear, waiting for the next team barbecue to propose. He knew he wanted to spend his life with Clay, and he knew Clay felt the same, somehow.

Brock he knew he should wake Clay up so he doesn't get a sore neck, or he should pick him up and carry him to bed, even though that will for sure wake him up. But he didn't want to, at least not now. Now, he wanted to bask in the warm weights that were pressed against him, to just be in the safety of love that was fought for. And as Brock looked up at the stars, he knew he had finally found the place he truly belonged.
