Work Text:
The night is silent and dead. The floor has gone cold, and the moonlight shines through the glass along the hallways. The only sounds that could be heard were his footsteps along the marble floor and his breathing. One could wonder why he’s out, walking around like an idiot. He himself can’t provide an answer. If someone were to ask him, he’d probably say, “Because I wanted to.” However, did he really want it?
The answer is no; he didn’t. It felt like something pulled at his heart, and his mind couldn’t ignore it. He stared at that ceiling, trying to fall asleep on the soft duvet bed but he failed miserably. He turned his pillows, he adjusted his cover, and he drank lavender tea, yet it still didn’t work. After attempting everything, he gave up and let that uneasy feeling take control of his legs.
“Why is my body betraying me?” He scuffs.
However, after walking for a while, he stopped. He turned his head to his left, a door—not just any door; it’s his door.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.”
He felt the mysterious urge to knock on the door. But his common sense argues for that decision. He’s not going to bother that man to entertain himself over his sudden insomnia at an ungodly hour. However, that string that is urging him is strong. It’s like his brain is fighting itself.
“I know you’re out there,” That man’s voice traveled as he got closer to the door. “Please, whoever you are...”
“Hey.” Hembrodge said, giving him a small wave after the man opened the door.
Clockwork was surprised and disappointed. “Hembrodge, I hope you have a good reason for lingering at such an ungodly hour.”
Hembrodge sighed after that statement and gave him an expression of shame
“I don’t, sorry.”
Clockwork cocked his eyebrow (that’s covered by his mask anyway). Hembrodge felt ashamed; he really didn’t have any important reasons. He happened to linger around his door after his feet took him there.
After looking at Hembrodge’s pitiful expression, Clockwork let out a sigh. He’ll oblige.
“Well, I could use some company. Care to amuse me in this cold darkness?”
Hembrodge’s eyes widened; he wasn’t expecting that reaction.
“Sure.”
