Chapter Text

you were always a sensitive person. you liked playing, exploring and talking alone. till a certain someone came along. you kept to yourself mostly, keeping yourself sane in that way.
youve also had a lack of empathy as a child. you couldnt put yourself in the situation of others, even tho you grew up in a poor family. sometimes you ask yourself how your parents didnt notice in what you were growing into. were they too busy caring about themselves? leaving you alone too much?
it first started with animals, experimenting with your curiosity. how long would it take for an animal to explode if hugged too tightly? would it even explode?
the next thing you saw was your father holding a rabbit, throwing up its insides. instead of taking responsibility, you blamed it on your sister. you hid away in the closet, sobbing and scared of the consequences, rather than feeling bad for the poor rabbit.
curiosity was always a bad thing.

you never left that trait behind. you were still curious, especially about the new kid that just joined the class. you sat in the corner, alone. no one wanted to be your seat partner, better for them honestly, even tho you had a feeling it had something to do with your skin color and your textured hair. youve skipped a grade due to being smart tho, and there were some weird people who talked about , a social experiment ' before putting you into this class.
you looked up from the book you were reading, looking at the teacher after she started talking about a new kid joining this class. getting bored of her speech and only mentally noting down the most important details, you looked at the child himself. wavy hair laid to the side, big round glasses, tanned skin and some light freckles on his nose. you titled your head at him, he looked .. different. a bit like you.
,, now that we introduced you to the class, you may sit beside ____ . ,, the teacher said, pointing to the corner you were sitting at . you tuned out the other kids that were currently throwing things at you, pencils, paper and other stuff they could find. it wasnt anything new, so you put up your text book that was basically shielding your face from the new kid.
you were trying to hold your hair, so nothing would get into your curls. you often didnt notice when something got stuck, and you were not in the mood to get made fun of the new kid.
alastor was currently staring at you, even if you didnt notice it due to the… obvious book that was standing between you two. your pretty curly hair that framed your face reminded him of his mother. his lips formed into a tight lipped smile at the thought of seeing his mother again after school.
,, what are you staring at?,, you looked at him and narrowed your eyes. what? did he dislike me already? you thought, hand tightening on your book. you hated people that judged someone just by their appearance; and you werent against hitting someone if they tried to tease you. last time someone pulled your hair, she got a book smacked right onto her face, sending her home with a broken nose. you could only think back to your father and how he-
,, i like your hair. ,, alastor said straightforward, pointing at his own head. ,, didnt mean to stare, sorry for being rude. you just remind me of someone .,, he said, looking straight into your eyes. thats the first time you both made eye contact in the last ten minutes. he noticed your big eyes, one darker than the other.
your grip losened on the book and you blinked slowly trying to comprehend what he just said.
you touched your hair before tilting your head while twirling a curl between your fingers
,, youre weird.,, you spoke,
,, but its okay. im weird too! ,,
