All the Scribe Sees

Summary:

Shinso is the scribe of a new kingdom, keeping track of all the ins and outs of the kingdom. He knows the boring and the more spicy details.

Work Text:

Shinso entered the King's chambers with the typical gathering of servants. “Good Morning, your Majesties.” He called, bowing gently as the curtains were pulled.

Queen Ochako pulled her sleepy head off of her husband's chests which she had been using in lieu of a pillow for some reason. “Oh, is it morning?” She yawned.

”I’m afraid so, my Queen,” Shinso smiled gently as she rolled to her side and blearily stood while her servants and ladies in waiting started to help her prepare for the day. The young couple had only taken over the kingdom recently and Ochako had been having a hard time settling into the early riser mentality of a queen.

However, her husband King Midoriya had boundless energy and seemed to be able to take all of the tasks the Kingdom threw at him. Shinso wondered if it was partially because he’d been raised as a farmer for so long before they’d learned of his ancestry.

“What do we have today?” The King asked, bright eyed as his servants set to the same task.

“Breakfast, of course, we wouldn’t want either of you to begin the day hungry. Then, you shall overlook the training of the knights. After lunch, you have your requested separate personal time so that His Majesty can train with his personal guard and Her Majesty can um… go over the dress selection with her lady in waiting.”

Both of those were complete lies. Anyone who had eyes could tell they were, as every time Shinso brought up the myriad of reasons that they would give him that they were going to spend time in separate rooms alone with Toga and Bakugo, a red blush would cover their necks and ears. He moved on quickly.

”And then there’s a meeting with the townspeople before dinner.”

”Ah, so a relatively easy day then,” Midoriya said with a smile.

’For you, maybe,’ the scribe thought in exhaustion. With the King and Queen dressed, he ushered the servants out so they could have a moment to themselves.

The two met and hugged gently at the foot of their bed.

“Good morning, Ochako,” Midoriya said sweetly, kissing her hair and cheeks.

”’Morning,” she muttered gently, getting on her tiptoes to kiss him on the lips. “How do you feel today?”

”Good. It sounds like most of what we’ll be doing today is observing… though Shinso has been doing his best to think of us and put in those moments of fun we requested.” Midoriya smiled at her sheepishly.

”You are… still okay with all of this, right?” She pouted. ‘All of this’ meant a great deal of things: being a ruler of a small kingdom, having his best friend/lover as a head knight, having another lover other than the beautiful wife right in front of him, her having taken another lover (he agreed, Toga was a beautiful and strong woman worthy of his wife’s affections). So much had changed since they had left their little town. They’d learned so much about the world and themselves… things that allowed them to be open minded.

It wasn’t that their marriage wasn’t fulfilling. They loved each other very much. It was that for them, that love overflowed into more pools and to those closest to them. It would be strange if Midoriya didn’t love Bakugo in some facet, with how they’d grown up together. Ochako had commented once that all of their training looked so much like foreplay they might as well just get it on and well… they agreed at some point.

Toga and Ochako had met after the group had moved to the castle, and Toga had fallen deeply for the young couple but was especially taken by the sweet and generous Queen. She doted on her queen for both professional and personal reasons. Ochako slowly began to feel the same and on one particular stressful day when Midoriya was away, she fell into her new suitor’s arms. This wasn’t a scandal or anything, as the King and Queen had discussed such a possibility beforehand and he had told her that since he had someone outside their relationship, should she ever find someone, she was free as well. They were equal partners.

It was going so well they were now having to schedule time to see their other significant others with appropriate excuses.

“I love every moment of our lives, Ochako,” Midoriya smiled, picking her up and swinging her around with frivolity. “The good, the bad, every kiss.”

Ochako giggled, “Silly man! You know what I love the best?”

”Me?”

”No! Food!” She ran off toward the dinning hall.

Midoriya laughed, shaking his head as he followed after his silly queen.

The day went as planned. Food, watching the knights train, where Iida frowned at his equipment (like always) then told Bakugo he was being too abrupt (like always). Bakugo never took this suggestion to heart, if anything offering to be abrupt on his ass, and the ensuing fight was stopped just in time for lunch.

After lunch both Majesties, blushing like tomatoes, escaped for their em… side duties so Shinso instead went to go check on another royal worker: that being the black smith.

Mei Hatsume was a great black smith. She just had a few kinks of her own that needed working out. One of which was on full display when he arrived.

“So, tell me again, Iida, what’s wrong with your armor?” She asked, sitting on a chair casually and eating an apple.

“It needs to sit here.” Iida moved his armor about five centimeters to the upper left. “But now it sits here.”

”Is it really that much of a problem?” Shinso asked.

”Yes!” Iida exclaimed. “My armor must be perfect! Not only for my pride but for the pride of my family!”

”It… has barely moved…” Shinso sighed.

”Forgive him, Iida, he doesn’t understand our passion. Give me a moment.” Mei stood and took Shinso’s arm, whispering to him. “What are you doing? You know I’ve got a good gig here.”

”Someday his constant complaints might actually be bad for your business, you know,” Shinso sighed, walking with her.

“Tch, everyone knows how particular he is. Now, I have a bed all set up for you, you look sleepy. It looks like this job isn’t the only one working you over.” She winked at him.

“Mei!”

“Shh! Go take a nap, I’ll wake you up when I’m finished here,” she unceremoniously shoved the scribe into the bedroom before turning to her picky client. “Well, Iida, if you want me to readjust your armor, I’m going to need all of your armor.”

She did not need all of his armor. She only needed the piece he had a problem with. But Mei would leave small problems- things easy to fix like a strap that was slightly misadjusted so he would have to come back for her to fix it. He would then stand half-naked in her forge complaining about various things while she pretended to work but mostly just subjected him to an equal eyeing that the average bar woman got. Mei was all for equal rights, after all. Then she’d help him put every piece of armor back on, and he’d be satisfied again for about a month. It was a nice chase of cat and mouse, were the mouse blind.

Shinso woke up later that day as the sun was slowly starting to set coloring the sky of orange, purples, and reds. A bit panicked his eyes came to a note: “You looked so cute sleeping I couldn’t wake you! I’m sure the castle will deal without you for a day <3”

This was true. Shinso was largely superfluous. He was there so Midoriya wouldn’t feel the need to take notes, for when the King took notes he took more than the small library could afford to house.

I never think I’m good with fluff! I hope you like it anyway D8
