"Iced chai with an add shot?" The barista shouts
You go up to the counter and grab your drink, giving a small nod and a quiet thanks with a barely-there smile. The bell chimes above your head as you head out the door.
Exhausted barely encapsulated the way you felt after tour. You had been touring in the states with a few friends who were also artists, mainly as the opening act because you weren't as well known.
Even though you were grateful for your seemingly small amount of supporters at every show, there wasn't exactly a profit. You made more money selling your merch after your shows than the payment from the venues and the ticket revenue.
You trudged along the streets of Toronto, the cool wind buzzing through the hairs on the nape of your neck. Daphne, one of your tour buddies was gracious enough to let you crash at her apartment while you got back on your feet. You were crossing your fingers that you would be able to find and hold down a stable job somewhere around the city. With your suitcase and a backpack slung on your back, you made your way to her apartment, greeting her cheerfully and setting your bags down, when you get an incoming call.
"Hello?"
"Dude are you back?"
"Yeah, I literally just got to my friend's apartment-"
"Come over nowww I miss youuuuuu"
"Okay Okay, Let me just settle a little and unpack some stuff then I'll head over"
"Alright see you soon!"
"Bye"
You hang up and look up at Daphne,
"Daph I'm sorry my friend wants to hang out I haven't seen her in forever because of tour you know. I'm gonna go over to her place for a little bit to catch up but I promise we can get dinner and binge-watch Nathan For You when I get back"
"No problem I've seen you all tour so I won't be selfish and keep you all to myself but I'll hold you to that promise girl" She widened her eyes playfully.
You saluted her and went to the spare guest room to unpack your suitcase and backpack. Once you were done you made your way over to Mandy's place, checking the address she had texted you. You've been to her old apartment, but she recently moved and you have both been so busy you haven't had the time to see each other in a while.
The door is opened so fast after you knock that you feel like you might get whiplash when you are suddenly engulfed in a hug.
"Oh my god it feels like I haven't seen you in 793 years"
"Right?"
You both let go and you look up to see Martin behind her smiling. The two of you had met before, Mandy had been seeing him for a while, but you hadn't seen them both since they both moved in together, and you were so giddy for them. You pretty much avoided romance anytime it came your way, even though deep down you craved a relationship like theirs.
You guys end up fucking around on the computer and eventually land on playing sims.
"Oh by the way my friend is coming over in a little bit..." Martin says apologetically while looking at you and then to Mandy.
"Oh shit yeah I forgot about that I kinda invited you on a whim because I knew you were done with tour" Mandy looks to you.
"Guys it's fine I don't mind" you chuckle at their concern.
"You sure?"
"Yeah bro as long as they don't bite me"
"What are you even saying" Mandy laughs
"I don't know man Martin seems unpredictable you never know what kind of friends he has..."
"I think you'll like him..." Mandy says while looking at Martin mischievously.
"Bruh" you fake scoff then snicker. "We'll see"
