Chapter Text
Anastasia Drozdov was tired, she had been on the run for a few weeks now and the Red Room somehow keeps finding her. She was currently hiding in an abandoned building in London, hoping to catch a break when she noticed something. In her left upper arm, a red light was blinking. She confusedly inspected it, and she realised it was a tracker. Furious with herself for not realizing it sooner, she took the bottle of alcohol she had with her and a knife, sterilized the knife and cut herself open to remove the tracker.
She winced in pain but didn't make any noise. After removing the tracker she put it down beside her, and sterilized the wound, she took a deep breath in when the sting of alcohol happened. She was used to pain. She took a clean cloth and tightly wrapped it around the wound, she didn't have any materials for stitching herself right now, so she could only wrap the wound.
Anastasia made a plan, she would leave the tracker here and run, if she destroyed it they would know she found it. She packed her belongings which was mainly weapons and food, with one pair of clothing and left, without looking back. She hadn't got very far when she was attacked.
The 9th Doctor was roaming the streets of London boredly, his TARDIS had brought him to 2004 and refused to leave yet. His machine was a curious little thing. He was walking on the streets looking for a coffee place when he heard talking in the street over. Curious, he followed the noise to a street where 5 women in black bodysuits which were littered with weapons were advancing towards a woman in a white bodysuit, who was holding a backpack.
The 5 women looked like they wanted to hurt her. One of the women in the black suits spoke up, "He wants you back Drozdov, he said he won't blame you for it if you come willingly."
Before he could warn her however she dropped her backpack to the side and cracked her neck. "Come back for what?" She said in a Russian accent, interested now, he hid himself and watched the show, if need be he can interfere, "So he can control my mind like yours? I'd rather die, and I hope for death for you too. Death is a better fate than him."
Her training kicked in, she ruthlessly fought the widows killing them swiftly when they attacked because she knew of the new program Red Room created, they used mind control for efficiency. That was the reason she ran. Death is the only solution, if they were to go back without her they would be punished and tortured.
The Doctor meanwhile watched with a gaping mouth as the gorgeous woman ruthlessly killed the others, he was confused as well, control their mind? He was very curious. He didn't like killing, but he didn't stop her and he didn't know why. All he could think about was how gorgeous she looked while fighting gracefully and how none of the other women were a match for her.
Anastasia was breathing heavily after she had killed the last Widow. She kneeled in front of them one by one and closed their eyes, they deserved that at least. She quickly picked up her backpack and started climbing a building, the rooftops would be a better vantage point to see if she was being followed. As she was climbing, her arm started throbbing, it was bleeding again.
The Doctor cautiously followed her, careful not to get too close since she seemed defensive and dangerous. He saw her sit on the edge of one rooftop with the view of a river. He also saw her remove the top part of her bodysuit to reveal a very toned body littered with scars and a white bandage on one arm, it was mostly red to be honest and he realised she was bleeding.
Anastasia felt like she was being watched but her arm needed cleaning now. So she removed her bandage and took out the bottle of alcohol. She took a sip and poured it over the wound. She barely registered any pain and took another bandage and covered it up. She took another sip of the alcohol and put it back in her bag. She pulled her bodysuit back up and swiftly moved towards where she knew the other person was, if they wanted to harm her then they would have done it when she was vulnerable.
The Doctor was stunned, she barely winced as she had poured alcohol over an open wound, just what had she been through. He was so deep in thought that he didn't realise that Anastasia was now standing behind him with a gun in her hand until she spoke, almost scaring him, "You're not very good for a spy, you don't have any weapons and you thought it would be a good idea to follow a woman you saw murder people?"
The Doctor turned around with his hands up, now that he could see her clearly she was very beautiful, blond hair and green eyes and a dimple on her chin, along with blood. He nervously laughed, what should he say? That he saw her kill people and he became curious? He'll sound like a creep. "Well, I was just walking around and I saw you fighting, and I became curious as to who you are..." Before he could go on and give an explanation that would not help at all, she put a hand on his mouth and pushed him towards the wall. The gun was no longer pointing at him. He was trying not to shiver at her touch and the closeness of their bodies, he hadn't felt like this before.
Anastasia heard someone approaching them. She was enhanced, which meant she had superior senses, speed, strength and she aged slowly. While she was on guard, she heard two heartbeats, from the man in front of her. She grew confused but thought to ask him about it later. She motioned for him to move slowly, signaling with a finger to her lips.
The Doctor followed her orders and they moved quietly and swiftly, suddenly she turned and shot twice behind them, he was surprised and when he turned he saw two women dead on the ground. "Okay, you need to leave, I don't know why you were following me but if you keep doing that you'll be in danger. Now go." She told him sternly.
"Hey, come with me. I have a machine that can travel in space. We can leave London right now." The Doctor suddenly said as she started walking away. He didn't want to let her go yet. Anastasia hesitated but took the chance, she still had her gun in her hand, "If you betray me I will kill you." She said looking him in the eyes to say it was not a joke.
As they started walking she suddenly said, "You want to tell my why you have 2 hearts?" Making The Doctor stop in his tracks and stare at her wide eyed. She stopped and looked at him with a raised eyebrow. The Doctor was in disbelief, how did she know? "If I tell you that will you tell me how you knew?" He finally said, hoping to know more about her. She nodded, it was a good deal.
As they started walking again he spoke, feeling hesitant to tell her all of a sudden, "I'm from a plant called Gallifrey, the only one of my kind. My spaceship which can travel through time, TARDIS brought me here on her own. My species looks like humans but we have two hearts and heightened intelligence, well to be honest humans look like us."
She was looking at him with a calculative gaze that made him somewhat hopeful, she didn't laugh or think he was stupid, she said asking with a head tilt, "You are an alien?" Anastasia was impressed and it showed on her face. She had theories about that but now here was proof in front of her. The Doctor nodded, surprised at her reaction.
Anastasia looked him up and down and smirked, making the Doctor blush, "Cool. I am an enhanced human, I have heightened senses, speed and strength, which meant I could hear your two heartbeats back there." The Doctor frowned, how did she become an enhanced human? He didn't know that was possible and there was a lot he knew.
They arrived at a blue police box. Anastasia felt confused before she realised that it must be a disguise. The Doctor entered first motioning her in. She held onto her gun tightly and entered the TARDIS, she was amazed by the technology and size of the ship. The TARDIS hummed happily, The Doctor then understood that he had been brought here to get her, he didn't even know her name. He was waiting for her to say the classic lines, 'It's bigger on the inside' but he was surprised when she asked instead curiously, "Is it like a different dimension inside the ship?"
"Well yes, it's exactly that. How did you know?" He asked, amazed by the woman in front of him, he's never had a companion who understood what he does before. "You mentioned space and time before, space is a relative term, and so that was the only explanation that made sense." She said looking around while The Doctor watched her relax slightly as she realised there is no danger here.
"Huh, well you're the only human that has ever realised that. And what do I call you?" He said moving around the TARDIS, still watching her, he couldn't seem to keep his eyes off of her. "My name is Anastasia Drozdov, and you? What shall I call you?" She replied putting her gun back in her holster and holding her arm which was now very painful, she'd have to stitch it up. The Doctor looked at her and said, "The Doctor, you can call me Doctor."
Anastasia frowned at that, "That isn't a name, it's a title, like I have the title of Black Widow.". The Doctor smiled at her, "In my species, names are intimate, only meant for family members or soulmates."
Anastasia said then, she understood, "Ah, well I won't ask then. Is there someplace I could freshen up then Doctor? Perhaps a shower?" Hoping to wash off all the dirt and grime off of her. The Doctor had a look of realization as he looked at her, she was quite dirty, but she still looked beautiful, he didn't understand how that was possible. "Right, come on then." He started walking in the corridors leading her to a spare room that the TARDIS had created for her. It seemed she liked her.
The Doctor opened the door to reveal a fancy looking room with red and black themes and a walk in closet, along with a bathroom. Anastasia was in awe of the room. "Are you sure? I'll be fine with a simple room Doctor." She said before stepping in, it was too fancy for her, she wasn't used to all this. The Doctor nodded, "It's alright, she likes you. TARDIS made this especially for you."
"Oh, well then thank you Doctor and thank you TARDIS." Anastasia said stepping inside while patting the door on the way. TARDIS hummed happily at being acknowledged. The Doctor awkwardly stood in the room while Anastasia put her backpack on the bed. He said then, "I'll leave you to it, you can shower and rest." Anastasia nodded and thanked him again as he left the room.
The Doctor sighed as he left the room, glad to have her onboard and curious about the woman. She was exciting to him and he had never felt like this before with anyone. He already wanted her, not just wanted a companion but wanted her romantically. He left to go to the control room to travel to space where they would be safe for now. He also went to his room to rest, it was a long week for him.
Anastasia locked her door from the inside and removed her bodysuit, she sighed looking at her reflection in the mirror in the bathroom. She was tired and bloody. She moved into the shower after removing the bandage on her arm and took a much needed bath. She washed her hair and just stood in the water for a few minutes enjoying the feeling of running water. As she wrapped a towel around herself, she checked the cabinets for a medical kit, luckily she found one. She carefully stitched up her arm and put a bandage over it. Hopefully it won't bleed now.
She moved to the closet to find a basic t-shirt and underwear to sleep in, she also put her weapons in hidden places around the room. She always slept with a gun under her pillow. As she lay down in the bed, she thought about the day, the man was quite attractive, but she had never had time for love, now that she was in a safe place she didn't know what to do with herself. All she had ever known was killing and fighting.
Perhaps she would have a chance to find out who she was.
