You're Toooo Slow!

Summary:

DogDay, who visits the library on a daily basis wants to get his favorite comic... However, an unstoppable force being the annoying lunar cat themself, stopping DogDay in his tracks from getting said book!

Plus Kickin, Crafty, and Hoppy all watching from afar... things go twisted for the troublemakers Hoppy and Kickin anyways.

Notes:

Writing might be a lil messy but it was just a funny idea in my head to share their heights in a way XD

Work Text:

DogDay, on his tippy toes, desperately trying to reach for the book that had to of course be on the top shelf. Why, of any other places, it had to have been the very top shelf he himself could barely reach. Was this a prank? 'Cuz it certainly felt like one, at this point.

"Almost... there... just a single tap, just, just–" DogDay's paw only reached the book the slightest bit, failing to reach it as its whole. This felt so useless, he can choose another book to read! Why was this book so important to read?!

Well, it was important, because it's his favorite comic. Somebody must've known it was his favorite comic since he infodumps a whole lot about it, thus preventing him from being able to continue the series! How rude and insincere, now his boredom will forever haunt him.

And why? His height factor. Never being able to reach the high shelf. Stupid library, shouldn't there be a mini step ladder to prevent such horrendous things from occurring?! It was already embarrassing enough as is to not reach the top. Ugh, maybe his brain was right, that comic could be read some other time.

Until he felt something on his shoulder–

Tap, tap.

The sunny dog quickly turned around, "ah, hey! Who did that?" Looking around to catch the culprit, his voice squeaked when the thing tapped the sides of his waist.

Still, trying to catch a glance at what could have been tap tapping him, he somehow missed it not only once, twice, but three times.

"I had enough," grabbing the mysterious 'thing' that kept poking DogDay around, his paws grabbed a lavender faded tail with a moon charm that jingled as a reminder to who it could possibly ever belong to.

DogDay blinked, looking up, "wait, CatNap–?"

Immediately getting wrapped up in the lunar cat's tail as if they were a snake catching their prey, giving a funny squeeze to him, giggling at the wide eyes the solar dog exchanged to the lunar kitty with the overly long tail.

DogDay wasn't sure how to feel. Being taken away by a long and monstrous tail this lunar cat had been blessed with made him feel both amazed and complexed; absolutely who gave them the ability to manipulate things with their tail to begin with, and who's idea was that?!

CatNap giggled again, shaking around a book in their paw... it wasn't just any other book, BUT IT WAS–

"Hey, ah! That belongs to me!" Exclaimed the sunny dog, the loosening of their tail letting go of him, holding the book close to their chest.

DogDay pouted. "You cannot do this to me, you know damn well I was struggling to reach that book for five minutes."

The swish of their tail swung up to their shoulders, letting the book get taken by their tail and wrapping it around. They snickered, using their paw; tapping their pointer and thumb to sign the number, "10," implying DogDay had been reaching for the book longer than 5 minutes... instead, it being 10 minutes.

Sighing, DogDay placed a hand on his hip, "big deal. Ten minutes of trying to reach a book with the same given technique is frankly nothing. Haven't you seen Kickin and Bubba fight that out before? Same dance and same song."

CatNap shrugged in response, their tail still holding DogDay's property, his one and only comic book he could be reading right now in his very own comfortable bed.

"So you're just gonna stand here and carry the book of my dreams? Seriously? I could be enjoying my reading time right now and having lemonade, CatNap! Doesn't that sound ideal to you as well?!"

No, their favorite drink was no where near lemonade... How did DogDay think CatNap was so nocturnal every night, through LEMONADE?

CatNap made an expressive look of offense, gasping and putting their paw over their head.

DogDay made a look of disgust, rolling his eyes and attempting to go around the cat to grab it instantly from their tail.

CatNap amused and looking down, switching sides every time DogDay tried reaching for his dearly beloved book wrapped around in their tail. It was basically a game of DogDay having to hop up and down to reach his own book, eventually giving up and his posture falling down to what would look like a shrimp's.

"Okay, okay! I get it, you win! What, do you want it for yourself?! Is that what this is??"

CatNap shook their head, and signed 'No' with their paw.

"So you... you don't want the book? Is that what this is?"

CatNap opened their mouth and signed 'No' again with their paw, for emphasis, they're sure of.

DogDay's arms plopped down on his own body, then both hands placed on his hips now, "then WHAT is this?!" Lifting his other arm and shooting it in the sky as he yelled.

Kickin, who had been leaning on one of the chairs in the library in a trio of Crafty and Hoppy, violently shushed DogDay and spoke: "this is a library! Get it together and a room, you nincompoops!"

The argumentative cat and dog turned their heads to Kickin, DogDay barring his teeth, "what the hell is a nincompoop???"

Kickin put his history book down on the table, "aye, aye, no need to take your anger out on me. And, and, a "nincompoop" is something your doggy brain won't comprehend, so don't try it."

"HOW WAS I TRYING TO COMPREHEND THAT?!–"

"Sshhhhhh, this is a libraarryy!!!! Do I gotta remind you again on how library rules work?"

DogDay put his hands in his overall pockets, "I know how library rules work. I'm not stupid."

"Well, you sure don't– you BOTH don't, actually!" Kickin smiled, looking right up at CatNap.

CatNap raised an eyebrow and looked back down at DogDay– AND HE STOLE THE BOOK WITH THAT EXCHANGE.

DogDay jumped and yoinked the book from CatNap's grasp of their tail, and immediately started to run out of the library. CatNap, the one with a shared braincell when their cat defenses activate, crawl on all fours and begin chasing after the puppy who got his book after 30 minutes.

Crafty turned to Kickin, "you... you were clever in that regard, but,,, DogDay nor CatNap didn't check out for their books."

"Uhh, actually, it was DogDay needing to be the only one to check out this time!" Kickin rose his finger mid air, resulting in a smack on the head from Hoppy.

"Oww– what now, are ya gonna say a darn tootin' or something in response to me, Hoppers??"

"You are so, so lucky that I ain't gonna give you a suplex city in the middle of the library." Hoppy made her statement, elbow leaning on the table.

"W-We shouldn't be giving anyone a suplex city in the middle of the library, guys–" Crafty anxiously butted in, only to get interrupted by the chicken,

"I'd like to see you TRY, little girl." His last remark before he set his very own terrible fate.

"LITTLE?! LITTLE GIRL?! Oh, now yer just REALLY askin' for it–" Hoppy reached across the table, since she was sitting next to Crafty instead of Kickin, swatting her fist at him.

"No, no! That's enough, you two! Let's just continue our studies, okay..?" Crafty separated Kickin and Hoppy like they were two kittens, being held by the scruff and lectured by the mama kitten.

Kickin stuck his tongue out at Hoppy, while Hoppy's exchange was her famous deadpan stare; her iris changing from the electric bolt to it completely fading, the green turning darker and freaking out anyone who comes across that look. Kickin was built different, he didn't care. They were the same height anyways, surely Hoppy could dropkick his chicken ass to the moon if she really wanted to.

"Um, the other issue at the matter here is that someone should probably let DogDay or CatNap know they have to scan their book the next time they go to the library..." glancing to the side when they realized the two chairs next to them were empty.

"...Guys? Guys??? Guys, what did you do?" Crafty got up from their seat, pushing their chair in, frantically searching for the two that may have gotten themselves involved in a fist fight.

Crafty sighed, realizing this was just child's play at this point, having not two critters escape their sights but four critters. They can be so immature at times...
