How does it feel to have the person you 'love' like your best friend?

Hi! Just a little mention this might not look too great on laptop/PC because I wrote this on my phone! So I reccomend reading this on a phone instead! :3

Notes:

HIIIII this was heavily inspired by a fic in wattpad called 'In the rain' I think? I really loved the concept and wanted to make my own interpretation with it! Hope you all enjoy and if the original creator wants me to take this down then pelase tell! I will take down the fic with honor.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: start - 1

Chapter Text

4:30 am

It's too early. Normal people would rather wake up at 7 or 8, this wasn't an option though since the alarm turned itself on. Stepping off of the bed and walking to the bathroom, the shower turned on and the sound of water hitting the floor echoes throughout the room.

As notifications popped up from the phone, the sound of water slowly disappeared and the shower curtain opened. In the mirror was a reflection of you. The steam that was stuck on the mirror was wiped clean.

As a few seconds passed the bathroom door opens and you walk down the hallway of your home to the kitchen. You put a slice of bread into the toaster and let it toast while you checked your bag that was sitting on the floor.

As you look through the rows of books you've confirmed to yourself that you were done and grabbed the toast. It was still a bit hot so you waited a few minutes for it to cool down before eating it.

Once you've finished eating the bread you rushed out of the house and locked the door, you prayed that your mother had brought her own keys. Some minutes have passed and you've finally arrived at your school, sure it took a while but it was fine.

At the gate you saw a few girls surrounding a certain guy, you recognized him. It was Tooru Oikawa, the captain of the volleyball team. He was pretty well known so it wasn't too much of a shock that some girls were giving him a bag of cookies.

He looks beautiful today, did he get a haircut? Seems like so. There wasn't that big of a difference but you could tell, if you were up close. God you sounded like a creep, who would have noticed that a guy cut his hair a few centimeters short from afar?

Nevermind that. You walk past the group and change your shoes, then walk up the stairs into your classroom. You've just passed as a 2nd year a few months ago and now you're a 3rd year.

Opening your class door you sat at a random seat, the one beside you was empty. Your seatmate usually arrives later, not late, just a few minutes away from being late though.

You opened your book and revised last week's lecture. It was chemistry, one of your worst subjects, you hated it. But you still had to get okay grades, so.

When you opened your book the sound of a bag hitting the desk harshly caught your attention.

Turning your head you saw your seatmate, Iwaizumi, sitting down and (harshly) resting his face on his desk. You greet him good morning and he responds with “g'morning.” In a low voice.

You ask if he had a bad morning and he just looks at you in disbelief. You shake your hand around and apologize. “It's just the test for today. I forgot to study it.” Your eyes widened a bit as you remembered the English test.

“Hey.. You're basically an English genius right? Mind cramping up some knowledge in my head before the lecture starts?” He lets out a low laugh and leans on the chair.

You replied by telling him how you're really just lucky at this kind of stuff, but Iwaizumi denied your luck. “I'd be more impressed if it really was by luck. Who gets a 90 on a test every single time?”

You shrug and continue revising chemistry. Iwaizumi took a look at your book and leaned in a bit, curious by your sudden motivation to ‘study’ chemistry.

“You're still you right?” You lightly smack the back of Iwaizumi's head.

As the two of you continued talking (arguing) someone called out Iwaizumi's name. “Oh. Sorry, gotta go.” He held his hand up and walked off to the person who called his name.

Now you were sitting alone again. Not exactly a bad thing, at least now you can focus on reviewing chemistry.

When Iwaizumi walked out of the classroom his friend asked him who he was talking to. “Oh. My seatmate. Why ask?” His friend let out a long ‘oh’.

“Cute.” Iwaizumi glared at him. “I'm kidding! Sort of.” He laughs in a laid back way. Iwaizumi only scoffed at him before he asked what it was he wanted.

“Oh right! Forgot. Do you know Yumi? You know, a girl with medium black hair, it's usually in a ponytail." His friend makes hand gestures to show examples. Iwaizumi thought for a second before he let out a small “oh.”

“Yumi Nakamoto? She's in my class actually… Why ask..” His friend put his finger on his chin and hummed. “Nothing much, just curious.” He took a peek inside the classroom and saw Yumi talking to you

“You want to date her?” Iwaizumi asks.

“Mmm.. Maybe.” His friend hums.

Iwaizumi lets out a sigh. “Honestly, she's not too fond of you.”

His friend raises his eyebrows. “How so?” Iwaizumi looks at the two of you talking to each other, one of you laughing once in a while.

“From what I've heard, she thinks you're too cocky and ‘annoying’.” Iwaizumi stays silent for a bit. “She's kinda right.” His friends let out a small hey.

“But that's what makes her so interesting! I mean sure there are girls that aren't too attracted to me, but I don't know..” His friend takes another look at her.

“Something about her feels.. Different. ” He smiles smugly before Iwaizumi smacks the back of his head.

“...Don't get too full of yourself shithead.”

“Can you please stop with the names?!”

Both you and Yumi look at the door. It's the usual ‘Iwaizumi and Oikawa banter’ that happens every once in a while. Yumi only laughs at the two while you scoff playfully at them.

“You know I would've never expected them to be childhood friends.” Yumi pointed out. “Iwaizumi seems like a gentleman. While Oikawa..” She looks at him in a doubtful way.

“Whatever it is he has, it definitely Parallels Iwaizumi's things.” She laughs quietly. You were still looking at Oikawa, before he waved goodbye to his friend.

For a few seconds, the two of you made eye contact.

You quickly look away, cringing at the moment. When Iwaizumi sat back in his seat, Yumi greeted him good morning. “Saw you bang your head at the desk, bad morning?” She laughs quietly. “Horrible. Completely forgot about the test.” Iwaizumi grumbles.

“Hahaa.. that's too bad. But you did do the math homework right?”

“Hah?”

“Huh?”

The three of you were silent.

“Oh? I guess not haha. I'll go back to my desk no-”

“Hey.” Iwaizumi pulls Yumi's collars. “You didn’t say anything about there being any math homework yesterday?” His voice was threatening while Yumi was trying to sneak her way out of the situation.

The two kept on arguing back to back while you were completely ignoring them, hoping nobody stares at you weird.
