Work Text:
Type glared sulkily at the texts from Techno as he waited for his boyfriend to get out of the shower.
Techno
Dude! Did you know our high school reunion is coming up?
It's literally a couple of nights away!
Rolling his eyes Type quickly typed as he heard the shower stop running.
You
Yeah, I saw it, we can talk about it tomorrow.
Before clicking his phone off and snuggling down into the blankets to wait for his soft pillow to get into the bed.
---
"We have to go to the reunion Type!" Techno announced as he bounced over to the table Type and Tharn were sat at.
Type sighed and slid down in his chair, shrugging his shoulders.
"What reunion?" Tharn asked with a frown.
"Our high school reunion. It's a couple of nights away." Type muttered.
"You should go Type, I can come too if I don't have a gig." Tharn replied thoughtfully.
"But they are all gonna think I'm still homophobic Tharn.” Type whined, “I was awful at high school."
Tharn delicately raised an eyebrow and Type slid further down into his chair with a frown.
"Ok, I was definitely worse to you, but I was still a horrible person."
Tharn frowned and nudged his boyfriend's arm gently, "Tyyype, this is why you have to go, show them all that you have changed."
"Ok, I’ll go." Type said defeatedly, throwing his hands up into the air.
Tharn smiled proudly and lightly kissed Type's temple before glancing down at his phone.
---
Type sighed as he watched Tharn getting ready to go to the bar, pouting as his boyfriend glanced over. Tharn smiled and dropped a kiss onto Type’s pout as he walked past. Type glared after Tharn, trying, and failing to keep the smile off his face.
“Sorry Type, baby. P’Jeed really needs us to perform tonight. The band who was supposed to be playing cancelled on her last minute.” Tharn said regretfully.
“Go get ‘em tiger. I’ll just suffer that reunion with Techno, there are enough girls I dated and enough guys who tolerated me to survive.”
“Girlfriends?” Tharn asked, pouting playfully at his boyfriend.
Type let out a small laugh and stood to hug him. Tharn grinned and wrapped his arms around Type’s slight form.
“They have nothing on you babe.” Type whispered slyly into Tharn’s ear.
Tharn smirked and leant in towards Type, aiming for his lips. Type tilted his head slightly and let one of his arms slide around Tharn’s neck.
Just before their lips met, the doorbell went, and Type pulled away with a sigh. Tharn quickly dropped a kiss onto Type’s cheek before pushing him gently towards the door, outside of which Techno was presumably stood.
Type rolled his eyes but went to open the door, anyway, coming face to face with an impatient Techno.
“Type! We need to leave and you’re telling me you aren’t ready yet?” Techno whined, following his best friend into the apartment and closing the door behind him.
Type stuck out his tongue and walked over to the cupboard to grab some clothes out, quickly shoving the shorts on before starting work on the buttons the shirt he had grabbed.
“Type! You can’t wear football shorts and one of Tharn’s tops!”
Type rolled his eyes and made no move to get changed. At this moment, Tharn came into the room. He dropped another kiss on Type’s cheek as he walked past him.
“It’s too cold for shorts at this time of year babe, there are some semi-formal trousers in the wardrobe over there if you want them.”
“Thanks hubby.” Type said with a sickly smile before walking over to dig around in the wardrobe.
“You really would do anything Tharn asked you to.” Techno said in disbelief, sitting down on the edge of their bed as he waited for Type to finish getting ready.
“I would not.” Type retorted, finally standing up, trousers in his hand.
“Yes you would, you absolute liar.” Techno teased.
“Tharn will do anything I want him to do too.”
“You guys are so couply, it’s gross.” Techno said.
“Only for him.” Tharn said, both laughter and adoration in his voice.
Techno wrinkled his nose and stuck his tongue out at Tharn, who laughed again.
--
Type stared into his drink, bored of the reunion already. A hand on his elbow made him glance up, instantly recognizing his first girlfriend Aom.
“Hey Aom, how have you been?” Type asked kindly.
“I’m fine! My fashion line is really taking off.” The happy tone of her voice indicating how happy she was to see him.
“That’s great! When’s your next show? I will come if I have time.”
“Would you really?! That would be amazing!” Aom exclaimed, pulling out her phone to check her calendar.
Type sighed lightly, allowing his thoughts to drift slightly. A tug on his arm pulled him back to the present and he glanced at Aom.
“The next on is next Saturday and Sunday, give me your line and I will arrange a backstage pass for you.”
Type smiled and opened Line on his own phone, letting her scan the barcode and send him a quick message. Just then, he spotted Techno emerging from the crowd. Shaking her hand from his arm, Type excused himself and headed across to talk to him.
“I’ve found most of our old friends, you want to come over? I told them you were here, and they seemed quite excited about seeing you again.” Techno said excitedly, grabbing Type’s arm.
“Sure. Hang on, let me see if Aom wants to come over with us, she looks a little lost to be honest.” Said with a grin.
Techno nodded and Type waved her over to them. She bounced over excitedly and slid her arm through Types.
“Hey ‘no!”
Techno raised an eyebrow at Type who shrugged slightly back, successfully dislodging her hand from his arm.
Aom pouted but quickly recovered herself quickly.
“What did you want anyway?”
“Type and I are going to hang out with some of our old school friends, we were wondering if you wanted to come over with us.” Techno said shortly, eyeing the girl suspiciously.
Aom beamed and nodded, and the three walked in the direction Techno had emerged from.
As they walked to the small gathering, Type immediately spotted one short girl stood beside Fern, one of his and Techno’s old friends, their arms around each other.
“Short-stack!” He called.
The girl looked across to them and grinned widely, twisting out of Fern’s arm, and flung herself towards Type. He caught her easily and hugged her tightly, his smile easily rivalling hers. Techno laughed at the pair and Aom glared, ignoring the amused looks from everyone else.
Setting her down onto her feet, Type patted her head.
“How have you been K?”
“Fine Type, what have you been up to recently?” Khae asked.
“Just work, it’s super tiring,” Before leaning down so he was close to her ear and whispering behind his hand, “so I take it you and Fern are still together.”
Khae elbowed him but stood up on her tiptoes to whisper back.
“We are hoping to get married next month, he proposed a couple of months ago.”
“Congratulations! You had better invite me.” Type threatened teasingly.
“Of course, what do you take me for.” Khae replied, rolling her eyes at his threat.
Fern narrowed his eyes at the whispering pair, invoking giggles from their loose circle.
“Look he’s getting jealous.” Type said, smiling behind his hand.
Khae sniggered and blew a kiss at her fiancé, who smiled back at her mollified before turning back to the ongoing conversation.
“What about you? Someone as handsome as you must have a girlfriend.” Type simply smirked back at her before turning to the rest of the group to greet them, Aom forgotten.
Khae poked him and walked back over to her boyfriend, who immediately circled her with his arms and kissed the top of her head. The others who were there, which Techno told the put out Aom, were Ohm, Sage, Xander, Nat, Leda, and Fern.
---
The rest of the evening was full of catching up and laughter, as well as congratulations for Fern and Khae’s wedding. Having had enough, the school kicked out the ex-students just after 10pm, much to the disappointment of the friend group.
“We should go out for drinks, I don’t wanna say goodbye for another load of years just yet.” Ohm said excitedly.
“Don’t forget my wedding. You all had better be there.” Khae said crossly, crossing her arms as she stamped on his foot.
The others laughed as Ohm hopped around on one foot in pain.
“I passed a nice-looking bar on my way here, and it has live entertainment apparently.” Aom suggested, rubbing her arm with one hand.
Everyone looked at Type, prompting him to reply to her.
“What was it called?”
“I’m not sure, but I know where it is.” Aom said after a moment of thought.
“Sure. Why don’t we go.”
Everyone piled into their own cars and followed Aom to the bar.
Climbing out the cars when they arrived, Khae bounced over to Type and slid her arm through his again, effectively rescuing him from Aom’s clutches. He smiled gratefully at her as they all headed up to the door of a bar Type knew very well.
A quick glance through the door told him Tharn was still performing and he grinned to himself as the small group walked through the doors.
“Type! You didn’t tell me you would be coming today.” P’Jeed appeared in front of them with a grin.
“How would I have had P’Jeed? I was at a school reunion.” Tharn said sweetly.
“Hey P’Jeed.” Techno said with a bounce and a wave.
“Will you two stop calling me P’Jeed. You make me feel so old.” She said with a pout.
“Are there any tables left inside?” Type asked fondly.
“Your usual table is gone but there is one reasonably close to the stage.” P’Jeed said thoughtfully, with a wink as she said it.
“Lead the way then.” Type said gratefully.
P’Jeed nodded and led the group to a table. After she had disappeared, everyone rounded on the two incredulously, speaking over each other as they tried to ask how the owner knew them so well.
Type simply smirked and glanced over to the stage, his eyes immediately meeting Tharn’s over the drum set. Tharn smiled widely at him, before returning to concentrating on what he was playing. As he turned back, he caught Khae staring at him suspiciously, and Techno staring at him knowingly. Type glared back at the two and re-joined the conversation.
Several drinks later, Type heard the music finish and P’Jeed announcing that the entertainment was over for the evening. He smiled slightly to himself, knowing the rest of the group was about to get one hell of a shock.
“Omg, the drummer is coming over here!” Aom squealed, grabbing at Nat’s arm.
“I mean he could be going to any of these tables. Look how many cute girls are trying to get his attention.” Nat said, eyeing how many people around them were trying to get the drummer’s attention.
“He is definitely coming here.” Aom shook her head excitedly.
At this moment, Tharn stopped behind Type’s chair and dropped a kiss onto his head, sliding his arms round the sitting boy.
“Hey babe.”
The whole group froze in horror, ready for Type to start causing a scene. To their even greater shock, Type simply leant back against the handsome drummer and slid his own arms around Tharn’s neck to hug him back.
“You didn’t tell them, did you?” Tharn asked amusedly.
Type shrugged before getting up and petulantly tugging on Tharn’s arm.
Tharn chuckled and sat down, letting out a small oof as Type collapsed back into his lap. Techno groaned and dropped his head onto the table tiredly.
“I will never escape your gross coupliness.”
Type stuck his tongue out at him, ignoring the frozen surprise still mirrored on everyone else’s faces. The first to recover was Khae, who bounced around the table excitedly and poked Type.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me! I asked and everything.” She exclaimed.
“You would never have believed me K.” Type said with a giggle, patting her head.
She simply glared back before turning to Tharn who was watching them in silent amusement.
“Hi Type’s secret boyfriend, I’m Khae, and they are Fern, my fiancé, Ohm, Nat, Aom, Xander, Leda, and Sage.”
As she pointed out each person. Tharn nodded as he followed her motions, noting the scowl that had settled onto Aom’s face. Deciding to ignore it, Tharn shifted Type slightly and smiled.
“Hi everyone. I’m Type’s boyfriend Tharn.”
Nat and Fern recovered themselves at that moment and they smiled and said hello back. Khae shook her head and muttered something about men being slow before shoving Sage out of his seat and sitting down beside the couple. Sage frowned but walked round to sit down beside Fern, and the two began whispering between themselves.
“So how did you two meet?” Khae asked sweetly.
“She-devil.” Type muttered with a glare.
“Type, be nice. We were put as roommates during the first year of university and it flourished from there.” Tharn scolded.
“How in the hell did you survive him?” Khae asked with one eyebrow raised.
Tharn laughed and winked at her, leaning across to whisper in her ear.
“You two are as bad as each other, don’t think I can’t hear you.” Type said.
Tharn laughed and quickly kissed Type’s pout, causing him to turn his head into Tharn’s collarbone to hide his smile.
As everyone recovered from the major shock of the evening and chatting began to resume, Khae continued to talk to Tharn about Type, and their high school days. Type interjected occasionally, but mostly he leant against Tharn, fiddling with his thumb ring absentmindedly.
Having had enough, Aom stood up suddenly and slammed her hands down on the table, sending glasses rolling.
“What the hell Type? I can’t believe you are dating a man now. What the fuck happened to you?”
“People change Aom. Tharn taught me that gender is irrelevant when it comes to love.” Type snapped back, straightening imperceptibly in his boyfriend’s lap.
“What happened to the man I loved, the man I expected to find at that reunion today? You were so much more fun in high school.” She yelled.
Type stiffened in Tharn’s arms, and Tharn began to rub soothing circles on his back, not failing to notice how Khae froze too.
“I was awful in high school Aom, I had my reasons, they aren’t pretty and I’m not proud of them. But I love Tharn and have done for 5 years. You want to know when you lost me? You lost me when you accused me of cheating on you with K!” Type retorted crossly.
The others began to murmur between them, as a crowd of Tharn’s fans began to gather around, standing protectively behind their favourite couple.
“Well what was I supposed to think?! You two spent so much time together, far more time than you spent with me!” Aom responded tearfully.
Suddenly Khae slammed her hand down onto the table and stood up, sending her chair toppling to the floor.
“Who the fuck do you think you are, Aom?! You cheated on Type with one of our seniors!” She yelled back.
Everyone froze, and Type’s eyes shot open in surprise. Tharn, feeling the surprise and hurt flooding off his boyfriend, tightened his hold on him and began to sing softly into his ear. Type relaxed slightly, leaning back into Tharn’s embrace.
Khae laughed cynically at the shock on Aom’s face, shaking her head at the other girl.
“Yeah. I knew. And I would have told Type, but he said you two had already broken up, and I didn’t want him to go through any more pain than you had already put him through.”
Aom glanced around at the disapproving faces of the other people at the table and promptly burst into tears.
“I hate you all! I knew I should have stayed away tonight. Well don’t come crying to me when you’re all broke and homeless and I am rich and famous.” She yelled, before turning and flouncing away out of the bar.
After she had made her exit a short silence fell over the table, everyone looking at each other unsure of what to do with the new information.
Type broke the silence first, glancing at Khae from where he was leaning against Tharn.
“Was that true Khae?” He asked quietly.
Khae startled at the sound of his voice, glancing at her old best friend almost guiltily.
“I’m sorry Type. I would have told you at the time I swear but I found out literally the day you came over to mine to cry and eat ice cream.”
Type sniffled sadly, but stood up to hug her.
“I know Khae, I don’t blame you for this.” He glanced at Tharn softly, “Besides, I’m with the love of my life now and I wouldn’t change that for the world.”
Khae grinned at him and gave him another hug.
“Just know, if you guys ever get married I will be travelling for the wedding.”
Type grinned at her and sat back down on Tharn’s lap.
“Oh and Tharn you’re officially invited to the wedding.” Khae said, eyebrow raised at her fiancé as if challenging him to disagree with her.
“Ohhh, you’re getting married soon?! And you are definitely invited to our future wedding Khae.” Tharn said with a grin, ignoring the glare Type levelled at him.
The others at the table watching the exchange looked on at the sweet exchange, before feeling as though they needed to interject.
“None of us agree with her just so you know.” Nat said, the others hurriedly nodding in agreement, “We think it’s awesome you met someone you truly love.”
Type blushed a little and turned to hide his face in Tharn’s neck.
“You wouldn’t be saying that if you were around them 24/7.” Techno said with a groan, “They’re so incredibly coupley.”
“Says you!” Type interjected, glaring at his best friend, “You and Champ are literally no better.”
“Techno! You never mentioned a partner!” Sage said, turning on the other man pointedly.
Techno groaned and glared at Type.
“Yeah, we’re super new and he was busy tonight.”
With that, the group moved on to talking about their lives since finishing high school.
---
A few hours later after copious amounts of beer had been consumed P’Jeed announced the bar was closing.
“Time to go home Type.” Tharn said softly, helping his drunk boyfriend upright and glancing across the group.
“Is everyone ok to call for lifts?” He asked, aware most of them had had a lot to drink.
“I haven’t had anything to drink,” Fern said, helping his fiancée up, “I’m happy to some of you back to crash at ours.”
“I’m sober too!” Sage chimed in, “I’ll take the rest of you.”
The two sober friends helped the others out into the two cars, Tharn helping the other two after depositing Type on the kerb beside them.
“Thaaaaaarn.” Type whined from the kerb, looking around for his boyfriend.
Tharn shook his head and helped Techno into the last car, shutting the door behind him.
“I’m right here Type,” he said, turning back to the other two, “are you guys ok handling the others from here?”
“Yeah don’t worry about us.” Sage said with a smile, “It was nice meeting you.”
“It was nice to meet you guys too, I think Khae set up a group chat earlier so I hope to see you lot again soon.”
“Oh definitely, we’ll send a save the date for our wedding tomorrow.” Fern added with a smile.
Once the last few pleasantries had been shared the others got in their cars and Tharn turned back to Type.
“Thaaaarn.”
“I’m here Type.” Tharn said softly, helping his boyfriend up and walking round to their car.
“I love you Tharn, I’m glad my friends like you.” Type said softly, nuzzling into his boyfriend’s collarbone.
“Me too Type, I’m glad you went.”
“Same.” Type said, happily settling into the car seat.
Tharn smiled and shut the door, going round to the other side to drive them both home.
