Work Text:

Heels clicked, people chattered and screamed. Taylor was sitting on a bench patiently waiting on her phone until someone called out to her, she looked over to see one of her friends waving her down. “Hey Taylor!” The girl ran over to her and exhaled deeply, she looked up and looked at Taylor. “Are you waiting for someone?” The girl questioned. Taylor could feel some heat on her cheeks when she was asked that question.

”Uh, yeah! I actually am. I have a date tonight” Taylor chuckled nervously while the girl she was talking to face beamed up with joy. “Really!? That’s so exciting! Congrats girl, I thought you were gonna be lonely forever” The girl laughed, Taylor knew she was just joking around. “Well someone is actually waiting on me so good luck Taylor!” The excited girl ran off Into the school gym and Taylor stayed on the bench, she pulled out her phone and checked her text. ‘He hasn’t texted me back yet..or even read my text’ Taylor’s leg started to shake and bounce, her nervousness got even more intense and she was wiping the sweat off of her hands

’He didn’t stand me up, I know he didn’t. He’s not that type of guy.’ She inhaled and exhaled softly, controlling her breathing the best could while rubbing her right arm.

More minutes gone by but it felt like hours to Taylor, the nervousness turned Into an ache in her heart, a burning feeling in her chest, and the pain in her stomach. She squeezed her legs together and squeezed her arms to her sides, her whole body was now tense. She couldn’t take this feeling anymore, she couldn’t take just sitting on this bench waiting for what it feels like nothing. She stood up from the bench and wiped her sweat once more and moseyed her way to the gym door and opened it.

She was immediately flashed in the face with the colors of beaming lights and the bustling atmosphere of the dance, her legs felt even more wobbly and took slow and painful steps through the blurs of people. In a second she made it to a table that contained a few liquids that she couldn’t make out due to the coloring of the room, she just grabbed a cup and poured in the mystery liquid. It tasted fruity and sweet, maybe it was fruit punch? Taylor can’t tell, her throat is too dry and closed.

She looked around the huge space and tried to locate the girls locker room, she couldn’t find it. There was too many people surrounding her, she felt so overwhelmed she just needed to take a breather. Taylor didn’t care if it was by the schools trash or by a pair making out on the stair-wells, she needed to breathe.

She began to move, all she could hear was her heartbeat and the shaky clicks of her own shoes. She was slightly hunched over as she practically pushed people out of the way in search for a door, any door is fine, any door that will lead to a room with less people, she didn’t care. She needed to be free.

A pair of hands she didn’t even recognize anymore reached out to a door and swung it open, the moment she stepped a few and the moment she heard the door close; it was silent. Dead silent. She could finally see again, she could finally breathe again, she could finally smell again, she could finally feel again, she could finally walk; all of her senses returned to her. Taylor welcomed them back and leaned against the wall, sliding down the wall with her legs close to her body once she hit the floor.

Being able to calm down, just reminded her why she freaked out to begin with. She looked at the small purse she brought with a small gold chain hugging her shoulders, and plunges her hand in and takes out her phone. Still nothing. ‘I guess I just have to accept it that he didn’t show up without a warning at all, even though I don’t want too.’ Taylor was mid inhale until she was startled by a door slamming open in the distance and someone walking rather hastily, she looked over to she who would walk past the corner. And then she saw.

”Ben!?” Her phone slipped out of her hands and slammed on the dirty floor, she immediately got up and she saw him frantically looking around; but then saw him look up at her. “What took you so long, you didn’t answer my text at all and-“ Taylor was cut off with Ben hugging her, he immediately started to apologize in his broken raspy voice. “I’m so sorry! My phone died so that’s why I wasn’t able to text or call you, then Aiden decided to take forever getting ready and while driving here the car started to malfunction and we were forced to pull over and figure out what’s wrong and that took a whole fifteen minutes, we wanted to get there early but we ended up being super late I’m so sorry for keeping you waiting and wasn’t able to say anything.” He exhaled after his mini paragraph, then was startled by startled her face. Taylor’s eyes were wide and her mouth was wide open in shock, she didn’t move and frankly forgot how to breathe.

Ben looked at her for a few seconds before realizing what he did, he actually spoke. He stopped in shock as well, then immediately started to worry that she would hate his voice and hate him for being late. He closed his eyes, waiting for her to scream at him or just walk away. But, that didn’t happen.

”Your voice is so beautiful! You sound like one of those guys that voice over the documentary’s! On my god I can’t believe you hid that, it’s such a blessing to have.” Her eyes would be gleaming with pride and joy while her smile came back to her face once more, Ben looked at her with shock. He began to feel flustered and embarrassed, he still felt the nervousness in his stomach but yet his heart fluttered so he just stood there.

”And Ben” His eyes twitched and made eye contact with her. “Thank you for coming, I really thought you stood me up.” She leaned in and gave him a little kiss on the cheek and grabs his hand. “Wanna walk and talk around the school?” Taylor suggested. Ben nodded while his face was flustered and grazed his hand along the kiss mark, she chuckled and dragged him down the hallway and started to talk about her morning.

This was the happiest and the most peaceful moment for them.
