Work Text:
In hindsight, Homura Akemi had given up hope of ever making it past May first. It wasn’t something she ever let herself consciously think about, but it was undeniably true when she thought back to her time traveling days. She had simply been going through the motions one timeline after another until she would inevitably fall to despair.
“Homura, are you coming?”
Homura could still barely believe the life she had now. It had been years since they had managed to defeat Walpurgisnacht. If she believed in a god, she might have thanked them for letting this timeline have just the right amount of divergence to finally let her rest.
“I’m sorry, Madoka. I was merely caught up in some memories.”
“Are you sure you’re alright? We don’t need to go out if you aren’t feeling well.”
Madoka was still as kind as she always was. Even after all this time, after everything she had seen and been through in this timeline alone. Madoka truly was precious.
“I’ll be alright. Thank you for your concern, though,” Before Madoka could think of retorting, Homura hugged her softly.
“I love you too, Homura. None of us are going away, I promise.”
And Homura could finally say that she believed her. She had finally found the good ending, and it was never going away.
