Work Text:
He woke up feeling sad today. Which was weird, because he'd woken up just fine yesterday, and the day before that, and.. how many days has it been again?
Ezekiel sat up and got up from the pile of straw he called a bed. Why was there straw in a cargo hold? Oh well. Even though he hadn't interacted with the host much, Chris McLean was infamous for his questionable thought process regarding the show.
He'd been living in the cargo hold for about... 8 episodes? Was the aftermath still a thing? Ezekiel didn't know. The only thing telling him how much time it's been was the plane landing and occasionally, footsteps. And even then, keeping track of the days was way harder then he thought it would be.
The plane's dull hum was the only noise that accompanied "breakfast," which was some leftovers he managed to snag from the fridge a couple days back. Is it even breakfast time? What time is it? Where's the next challenge? Is there a challange today?
Would he still be in the game if it wasn't for that mistake?
Is staying on the plane even worth it at all?
He shoved that thought down. No, it’s worth it. It'll all be worth it. He's going to win it, the million dollars, the money he needs.
Why does he need it?
A rat scurried across the floor, distracting him from whatever thoughts he was having. There were a ton of rats on the plane.
"Rats are highly intelligent animals, Zeke." His mother explained, looking at the one currently resting in his hands. "They're very good at understanding things taught to them, and are also really affectionate." She pat him on the head. "Like you."
Ezekiel gasped. "Me?"
His mother chuckled. "Yes, you."
He misses his mom. What would she do if she was here? Probably teach him something. Ezekiel looked back at the rats. "I guess they really are like me, eh?" he muttered.
The rat scurried closer. Close enough to grab. He picked up the rat, holding it gently, like he did all those years ago. This one struggled a little more then the one from his memory, but it was close all the same. Now.. what to talk about?
"So I wrote this song.."
