Happy birthday

Summary:

Heather's parents are terrible and forget her birthday, so she climbs in through Veronica's window for comfort.

Notes:

English is not my first language, so please excuse any mistakes

Maybe, but just maybe I'm a little obsessed with the soft Heather Chandler, but whatever hehe

I started writing this 1 day after my birthday, last Saturday (March 9th) and I procrastinated a lot with it, so, well, I didn't like this story that much, but anyway, here it is :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was Sunday, the sun was beginning to rise when Heather woke up to the sound of a car beneath her window. She quickly woke up, getting out of bed, putting on her slippers and running downstairs.

It was his 17th birthday

When Heather was a child, her parents always got up earlier than her on her birthday and prepared a surprise for her, dedicating the entire day to the blonde's happiness. Well, after Heather turned 12, the birthday surprises started to disappear, her parents started to withdraw from her and focus 100% on their work, only caring about lecturing her about her grades. The times when Heather and her parents acted like they did when she was younger became rare (almost non-existent). Deep down, the blonde hoped that one day she would wake up and everything would go back to the way it was before, she missed her parents a lot.

Heather couldn't help but smile broadly as she walked down the stairs, the day she'd dreamed of had finally arrived, her parents took time for her, the surprises returned. Good...

Upon arriving downstairs, Heather looked around the room. No sign of her parents. Hearing a noise in the kitchen, Heather turned and walked towards it smiling. Upon entering, she found Simone, the housekeeper, giving orders to one of the maids. Simone worked for the Chandler's since before Heather was born, she followed the girl's entire life. The blonde had immense affection for the older woman.

— Heather, honey, what are you doing up so early? – Simone walked towards Heather and gave her a hug – Good morning, angel, happy birthday!

— Good morning, thank you very much – she said, returning the hug – I heard my parents’ car! Where are they?

— Oh.. – Simone gave a sad smile

— What it was? – Heather asked, confused, but still smiling.

— They said they were going to travel, a couple's Sunday or something like that – the older woman observed the teenager in front of her

Heather's smile slowly died as she looked at Simone. Of course they did.. The blonde felt her eyes water and a lump form in her throat. Without saying a word, she turned and ran to her room. When she entered, she slammed the door and slid down the door until she sat on the floor.

How could they do this to me? On my birthday...

Wiping away the tears that kept falling, Heather looked out the window and saw the faint rays of sunlight. The blonde took a quick look at her alarm clock. 5:42AM . It was too early to do anything. She needed to calm down.

Veronica. It was the name that came into Heather's head as she took a deep breath. The brunette would know what to say, she always did.

Getting up from the floor, the girl dried her face and walked towards her wardrobe, after all, she was still in her pajamas. It didn't even take 15 minutes for Heather to come out of the wardrobe with another outfit, which was surprising considering that it took the young woman around 40 minutes to — just — choose an outfit. The blonde wasn't overdressed, in fact, she was wearing simple but presentable clothes. Heather was wearing denim shorts and an Arctic Monkeys t-shirt – which belonged to Veronica – and wore black sneakers. She grabbed her car keys and cell phone and went downstairs. Simone tried to talk to Heather, but the only thing the blonde said was that she was going to Veronica's house.

On the way, Heather thought a little about when her parents started to pull away from her. It happened some time after his 12th birthday. She doesn't remember doing anything that angered her parents, but she still blamed herself, after all, there was no other explanation for such an action.

When she arrived at Veronica's house, the blonde walked to the door, but stopped when she saw the brunette's parents' car parked in the garage. Of course, it was Sunday, so obviously her parents would be home. Veronica's parents had no problem with their daughter dating a girl, even with that girl being Heather Chandler, they certainly heard stories about the blonde, of course first of all, their daughter hated her, it was plausible. But no, the truth is that they liked Heather, because she seemed nice knowing her better and because of her parents' history of neglect. The thing is, Heather wasn't going to ring the doorbell, it wasn't even 6:30AM in the morning yet, she didn't want to wake anyone, besides Veronica, of course. So she decided on the stupidest option. Climb the tree in front of Veronica's room and enter through the window . Everything was going to go wrong, but it almost didn't. Luckily, the brunette's window was unlocked, so she balanced herself, opened it and started to go inside. Which went completely wrong, because in the next second the girl fell to the ground with a loud thud. The impact made Heather groan in pain and look towards Veronica's bed, who was sitting on the bed looking at the blonde on the floor.

— What a damn day.. – Heather murmured, starting to cry again.

It was indeed a bad day

— Heather, what the f- — Veronica cut herself off when Heather's teary eyes looked in her direction.

The brunette got up from the bed and walked towards her girlfriend to help her get up.

— Baby, what happened? It's... - Veronica turned to her bedside clock and then back to the other girl - 6:18AM on a Sunday

Heather didn't respond, opting to just look away.

— Shouldn't you be with your parents doing something for your birthday? – Veronica understood in the same second, Heather's parents were idiots – What did your idiot parents do?

Before answering, Heather walked towards Veronica's bed, with the brunette following and sitting next to her.

— Simone told me they were traveling, a weekend as a couple or something like that – murmured the blonde, now no longer crying.

— They don't... Oh, Heather, I'm so sorry... - the brunette said hugging Heather

— It's okay, I just... damn, they just went away and didn't even bother to tell me. – she said, lowering her head – On other birthdays... well, they always ignored me, but at least they were there, now... – she finished speaking with a sigh and looked at the brunette

Veronica had seen very little of Heather's parents since she started dating the girl, and even before that. They were always working or at the club having fun away from their daughter. The few times Veronica had the displeasure of being in the same room as the older Chandlers, she had to give everything she had to not start an argument with them. It was unreal for the brunette when Heather told her everything they did when the blonde was a child, I mean, look at them now, they barely looked at their daughter's face, they would trade any minute as a family to travel alone. Now, they were terrible parents.

Veronica was brought out of her thoughts when Heather spoke again.

— What do I have to do to make them love me again, Ronnie? – Heather spoke with a choked voice, which made Veronica's heart break into a thousand pieces.

— Listen – Veronica said indirectly – Don't waste your time with them, Thea, it's not worth it. There are other people who want your good. Duke, Mara, Simone – the blonde smiled at the mention of the older woman's name – and me. You don't need them, honey. We will all always be by your side. Your parents are just idiots. I don't know if there is a reason for their change and to be quite honest, I don't care at all, I don't like them. But, well, they made you, who's a bit of a bad bitch, but still a sweetheart – she laughed making Heather laugh too – What I want to say is, I love you and I'll be here forever, okay?

— Thank you.. – Heather hugged the brunette, sniffling a little.

— You're welcome, now let's go to bed please, it's not even 7AM and it's Sunday – Veronica whimpered smiling when she heard Heather laugh and murmuring 'ok'

The two lay down and Heather snuggled up to Veronica. When everything calmed down and the brunette realized that Heather was about to sleep, she hugged the blonde tighter and whispered:

— Happy Birthday, Heather...

After a while, the blonde replied

— I love you – she replied simply as she closed her eyes

Veronica smiled slightly

- I love you too. Forever.
