Work Text:
She was walking down the street, a few steps to her side was Lord Enver Gortash. She didn’t pay him much attention to him as they walked, but occasionally she did meet his gaze. He seemed to be mid-sentence about something, what was it again? Oh yeah, the plan or whatever it was. She nodded along but the words just seemed like more background noise to the ever-consuming thoughts of her own mind. It was enough she thought, to just ‘pretend’.
As she was walking along, she turned to the left of her and caught something in the shop window. She grinned instantly and bounded over to take a better look, it seemed to take Enver a few moments to realise he was no longer being followed.
“Layla?” He looked at her a little perplexed with a twist of agitation. He walks to stand beside her and catches what her eyes have fallen on, a lute?
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” She muses, her eyes so wide and full as she gazed at the object, it almost looked like she was in love. It was odd to him, he had only ever seen that expression on her face when dashing blood to ground. To look at an instrument like this, he was almost amused. While a little annoyed they were now late, he could not miss the chance to indulge himself in his curiosities.
“A lute?”
“Exactly-“ She is almost in her own world, a voice so sweet he almost didn’t recognised it as hers. The most pitying feeling sunk into Enver’s stomach as he wished she would look at him in such a way.
“I didn’t know you played”, He admitted, his eyes never falling from her.
She seems to pause, and for a moment she seemed to be lost in her own world.
“I have a brilliant idea”, she seemed to have a spring in step as she dashed into the store, grabbed the lute and ran. He found the whole thing amusing, but shook his head a little as she ran away. He threw money on the counter before dashing after her, finally catching up a few streets away. A little haphazard from the sudden movement, he notices she’s sat now with the lute in her hand. He wanted to tell her she had no need for such actions with him, but he didn’t particularly care.
“I suppose I should have expected that, but I had no clue you had such tastes for the arts”.
“I haven’t played for a long time. It offers something, a connection. A heart beats for love, for soul and music provides to the masses”. Something seems to radiate in her, a slight twitch. “To give this to someone, watch their life fill to the brim in bliss and hope, before slashing it. It makes me feel alive…. I like the sound too”.
He seems a little dumbstruck, unsure what to say. It didn’t particularly seem to latch onto his worldview of how she made her sacrifices to her father, yet he enjoyed the revelation.
“So, you would play for me?”
She shrugs a little, her fingers lightly trailing down the instrument as she inspected it. “Perhaps I would, but are we not in a rush?”
He looked at her with the instrument in her hands she looked far more precious than he would ever care to admit. Her natures never seemed to meld like he would expect, instead clashing all at once. Each fact he learned of her, just made her all the more enticing.
“We are already late actually”, he can’t help but remind her. “It’s too late now for such qualms”.
She seems to look at him bemused, how quickly the Lord would switch his plans for her. It made her wonder how much more she could get away with, she wanted to test this in depths with him. She had plenty of time to do so, it would be impossible to resist.
“How sweet of you, do you have any requests?” She is quick to ask of him, patting the step beside her. “Come Enver-“.
She waits for him to perch next to her, her eyes sparking in a way he was not used to. She seems to strum again, taking a breath. Then it happens. Hands falls gracefully over strings, her voice floating through air in ways too sweet for her nature. He knew her well but this was new. He leaned against wall, his eyes not moving an inch from the way she continued to play. Eyes seemed to catch them and soon enough people lingered to watch her. It soon became apparent how she captivated anyone enough to have her way with them, she could conjure a crowd in just a few moments. He wondered what else he didn’t know of her, trying to pretend his heart did not swell at such a sight. It was purely business, with perhaps a little more. That was where it ended, was what he would tell himself repeatedly as he watched her play.
The music seemed to come to an end, her voice seemed to go silent as her fingers paused on the instrument. He seemed content to just observe, yet she was quickly on foot again. The instrument swung to her back, and she pulled him up before he had much time to object to such drastic movements. The crowd quickly becoming a distant memory, as she did little to engage in their reactions. His brain seemed to be racking up the reasons for why but couldn’t conclude on anything concrete enough to believe. It didn’t matter for now they were a few streets away, her steps quick as usual.
Then another pause, he was struggling to keep up. He was pushed to wall, her eyes a little wild. They certainly weren’t going to that meeting, but he couldn’t help smirk at the sight. No time to really think this through as lips crashed against his, he tried to pretend not to be surprised as hands want to her hair. At least he certainly attempted such a feat. Soon enough she was taking his hands, pushing them with force above his head. Eyes seemed aflame as they bore into his and he momentarily hitches a breath at the sight. How he had yearned for her to touch him in such a way. She didn’t speak, just lips once again meeting his in a passion that took him off guard. He was a little grateful she was holding his hands up. He melted into each of her touches, eye fluttering closed. Each touch lighting up a side of him that he so desperately tried to hide, especially to her. It was intoxicating, it was a dose of life he had longed for, for far too long.
Then as he got too comfortable, too relaxed, he felt her teeth grazing his lips. He groaned, then sharp pain. Blood trickling down mouth and his eyes widened. Before he could really react, she had leaned back to marvel at the sight. His pupils dilated and she giggled at his reaction.
She was going to be the death of him.
