“So, you’re an oni.” Nishinoya randomly said to Kei during a practice. The gym went quiet, whether they were shocked or eavesdropping varied on the person.
“Noya-“ Asahi hissed, unsure if Tsukishima would be offended by that or not.
“I am, yes.” The middle blocker said sceptically. “Why?”
“And you have wings?” Noya continued, but it was more of a statement.
“..yes.” The blond replied, even more confused. “Where is this going?”
Noya ignored him. “And you can fly?”
Tsukishima paused, realising what the libero was getting at. “I’m not flying you around.”
“What? Come on Tsukki!” Noya begged.
“Not happening.” Tsukishima scowled “and don’t call me that.”
Did Noya have a plan B?
He was a Nishinoya. Of course he did.
Days had passed since then, and Noya had seemed to have stopped begging. Or not.
“Oh, great.” Tsukishima muttered, walking into his classroom to see Noya waiting at his desk.
“Oh, if it isn’t my second-favourite first year!” Noya announced upon Tsukishima’s arrival. “I need to talk to you!”
“What do you want?” He asked, already knowing what Noya would ask.
"Oh nothing, nothing." Nishinoya said innocently. "Just here to talk with my second-favourite kouhai about..birds?"
Tsukishima blinked, unamused. "Birds?"
"Yes, birds!" Nishinoya grinned. "Like, aren't they so lucky to be able to fly about whenever they want? And having wings is so cool! Don't you think?"
Kei cocked a brow "I see where you're going with this. My answer is still no."
“Oh, well in that case, I have an offer for you.” Nishinoya grinned. “You take me for a fly, and I’ll keep your secret.”
“So, you’re blackmailing me?” Tsukishima said flatly, unconvinced the libero would.
“Yep!” Nishinoya said innocently. “So if you don’t, I’ll tell everyone the truth.”
Kei subconsciously clasped his hand over his wrist, over his bracelet. “You wouldn’t.”
“Oh, but I would.” Yuu grinned upon seeing the effect the threat had on the younger. “Take me for a fly?”
“No.” Tsukishima said flatly, but there was a slight unsure sound to his tone.
“Fine.” Noya said, and turned to the other first years in the room. “Hey everyone! Me and Tsukki have to say that-“
The bell went, cutting Nishinoya off.
Tsukishima breathed a sigh of relief. Thank Asahi.
"Oh well, bye Tsukki!" Noya cheered, darting out of the room to meet Ryuu before his next lesson.
---
Nishinoya came to Kei's classroom repetitively throughout the next few days, to the point some classmates of his thought he was dating Nishinoya.
Kei would rather be exposed as an oni than date him.
---
"No." Tsukishima said again to Noya's offer.
"Okay then." Noya smirked. "Everyone! Can I have you're attention? Tsukishima here is a-!"
Tsukishima clasped a hand over Nishinoya’s mouth, and for the first time, Yuu saw a hint of fear cross Kei’s face.
“Fine. I’ll do it." He hissed. "Just don’t tell-“
“Anyone about your secret, I know” Nishinoya grinned, turning to leave. “Awesome! I’ll see you tonight, Tsukki!”
Tsukishima, again, glared at the giggling Yamaguchi.
“You did what?!” Daichi exclaimed in shock. “You can’t do that!”
“Well, I did.” Yuu said proudly, after bragging about how he got Tsukishima to agree.
Suga was too busy laughing to say anything.
“Noya, this is serious. You can’t threaten his safety for a fly around.” Asahi said nervously, ideas of many ways it could go wrong, for both Kei and Yuu, running through his head.
“Relax, guys, it’s not like I’d actually reveal it. I just make him think that.” Noya said, grinning. “And besides, it’s not like it’s threatening his life or anything if anyone knew.”
“But it is!” Daichi and Asahi said in unison, exasperated clearly.
“He’s my bestest bro’s bro-in-law, I’m basically his family.” Noya explained as if the others were toddlers “I would never risk his life like that!”
“I’m a terrible influence.” Sugawara laughed, head in his hands. “I’m just praying for Tsukishima at this point.”
“You and us both” Daichi sighed.
It was dark out, past 10pm, so no one could see Tsukishima when he was in his oni form, or recognise either of them.
Noya was basically bouncing with excitement. Tsukki, on the other hand, couldn't wait for it to be over.
“let’s do this!” Noya said eagerly, pulling Tsukishima’s bracelet off.
“Hey-!” He said, grabbing at his bracelet, but Noya put it in his pocket.
“Nuh uh!” Nishinoya smirked. “Not until you’ve flown me around. And it feels great to be in your oni form, doesn’t it? No longer stuck under your skin…”
Tsukishima scowled, but Yuu had a point. He unfurled his wings slightly. “Fine. A short one.”
Nishinoya grinned, this was easier than he had expected. Tsukishima wrapped his arms around the shorters waist, and took off into the sky.
“Woah!” Nishinoya cheered, eyes wide in awe as he watched the ground get further and further away. Wind brushed against his face, and his ears filled with the sound of the steady beat of wings.
“Do tricks! Like a flip or something!” Nishinoya begged, tugging at Kei’s arm.
“Keep tugging me like that and I’ll drop you.” Kei threatened.
“Akiteru would kill you.” Yuu countered. “And Saeko nee-san and Ryuu! And-“
“Okay, I get it.” Tsukishima sighed, rolling his eyes as he flew Yuu around.
“…think fast!” Noya randomly said, pushing Kei away and diving backwards out of his arms with a cheerful cry of ‘Rolling Thunder!!!’
Tsukki rolled his eyes, watching Noya fall for a moment before diving, much faster, down. He flew underneath the older and grabbed him mid air.
“Dumbass.” Kei muttered, swooping down the the ground and putting the giddy second-year down.
“That was so cool!” Noya cheered. “I was all like WHOOSH and you were all like WHAM and then we were like WH-“
“Speak Japanese, please.” Kei sighed, adjusting his glasses.
“That. Was. Awesome!” Noya exclaimed.
“Yeah, yeah, cool, whatever.” Kei dismissed hastily. “Give me my bracelet.”
Noya smirked mischievously. “Wow, it means a lot, huh?”
Tsukishima rolled his eyes for the umpteenth time that day. “Well yeah, idiot, it’s the only thing that allows me to walk around without being killed. Now give.”
Yuu paused. It had never occurred to him how dangerous it was for Tsukishima to even be alive. “Yeah, alright.” He said, handing Kei the bracelet, still thinking.
Why was being an oni so bad? Saeko is dating one, Tadashi was dating one, Yachi was cousins with one, and he himself was teammates (and hopefully friends) with one! Akiteru was a nice guy, and Kei, despite being bitchy, was a good guy too! So what was that bad about being an Oni?
In Noya's brain, it seemed awesome to be one!
“It was so cool! We flew around, and I just went WHOOSH out of his arms-“
“You jumped?!” Asahi said, clearly worried as usual, upon hearing Noya’s boasting to the whole team.
“Yeah, the baka cried ‘rolling thunder’ as he did it.” Tsukishima sighed, shaking his head at the memory of the dumb idea Noya had from last night. “I swear, any louder and I would have been caught.”
That did not help ease Daichi and Asahi’s worries.
“It was super awesome!” Noya bragged proudly.
“Bro, that’s so cool!” Ryu grinned.
“Gwahh!” Hinata said excitedly “That’s so cool, Noya-san!”
“Right?” Nishinoya grinned.
“OH! can I have a turn?” Hinata begged. "Pleeease Tsukishimaaa!"
“Heh, no."
