Chapter Text
In late December, 2016, a man was found passed out near Gekkoukan high school. The man was later identified as Makoto Yuki, a former student (which explained his attire solely consisting of Gekkoukan’s male student uniform,) who was declared dead around 6 years ago. The man was taken to a hospital, where he was nursed back to health. A few days after being found and taken to the hospital, he awoke.
When the man woke up, the police wanted to talk to him, as the situation was highly suspicious. But when they got a chance to talk to him, it was clear that some memory loss was present, and he wasn’t lying anytime he told them he had no answers. With it clear to them that they’d get nothing of importance from him, he was left alone.
The nurse taking care of Makoto asked him if there were any calls he wanted to make before they examined him further. One name came to mind.
Yukari Takeba was widely acclaimed for her work on the Phoenix Ranger Featherman series. Due to this, she often got calls from random numbers that she would ignore. One day however, she received a call from Tatsumi Memorial Hospital. She debated whether or not to answer for a second, but decided that a call from a hospital probably shouldn’t be avoided.
Yukari answered the phone and spoke first.
“Yes? Hello?”
A nurse's voice answered. “Is this… Yukari Takeba?”
“Yep, that’s me. So… What’cha need?”
“A patient here wanted to call you. He seems to not remember much, but wanted to call you.”
This confused Yukari, who on earth would be amnesiatic but remember her? “…ookay?”
“We’ll put him on now.”
Yukari waited in silence as the sound of the phone being moved into another person's hands emitted from the phone’s speaker. She was curious about this mysterious amnesiac and why they wanted to call her, her curiosity soon to be answered.
“Yukari?” a familiar, depressive tone emitted from the phone. It brought back memories that caused Yukari to pause in place for a second.
“Makoto?”
Yukari didn’t speak for a few seconds before continuing, “Is that- no, is it... really you?”
“Yeah... it is. I guess I was found outside of Gekkoukan recently.”
Yukari doesn’t respond for a second.
“…Yukari?” Makoto’s voice got an audible sob from Yukari as she quickly told him… something. It was unintelligible though.
“Yukari? Can you repeat that, I didn’t hear it.”
A sniff was heard through the speaker before Yukari began to speak. “I said you’re back, you stupid jerk.”
Makoto smiled slightly as she said this.
“Seriously Makoto, how are you back?” Yukari’s question was surrounded by the sound of her tears.
“I’m not sure… Did you guys do anything?”
“No… But I do remember something Aigis once told me…”
‘Aigis…’ A memory of his last moments and a turn in his stomach told Makoto how bad he felt for leaving Aigis at the same moment she told him she’d protect him for the rest of his life. Regardless, he asked, “What was that?”
“I uh… I don’t exactly remember. But, it was something about a woman who said she was going to keep trying to free you. She was an eccentric girl from what I remember, I believe her name was Elizabeth.”
Makoto was then suddenly lost in concern for Elizabeth for a second, but Yukari’s voice swiftly brought him back to the conversation. “So, you’re actually back this time? You’re not just gonna sit around for a month and then go back?”
Makoto paused before answering. “I don’t know. I hope so. It’s been so long after all…”
Yukari laughed, with a small hic that conveyed that she was still in tears. “Look, Stay there. I don’t know if you have a choice in the matter, but just… stay there.”
“For how long?”
“Until I can tell everyone.”
Makoto chuckled, “Alright”
As the call ended, the nurse took the phone from Makoto. Before she left, she advised Makoto to try to rest. Makoto however, had no intention of sleeping anytime soon.
