Work Text:
Tamamori couldn’t remember when he had fallen.
To him, that pleasant feeling that had always been with him while with Miyata was something he could remember from the beginning of time. He knew that the older man was more than comfortable with him, based on how he called out his name whenever he saw him or slung his arms around him.
At first, he would think it would be just fan service on Miyata’s end but a fluttering feeling in his chest would tell him otherwise. Maybe he had really fallen. All Tamamori wanted to do about it was hide his feelings. As long as he was next to Miyata and didn’t cause any trouble, he’d be okay.
“Tama-chan!” There it was. Tamamori’s heart skipped a beat and he felt his cheeks heat up. Miyata was running up to him and soon, he was tackled in his arms and wrapped in a tight hug that he didn’t want Miyata to know that he secretly loved.
“Good morning.” Tamamori didn’t budge. He wanted to be in Miyata’s arms forever. But he couldn’t say it. It would be a selfish secret.
“Looking forward to being with you today.” Tamamori tried to convince himself that those words from Miyata were all flowery and sweet.
Yet the words escaped his mouth. “Me too.”
He had said them with a soft smile.
During a break, Miyata sat blankly in the studio. His gaze wandered around as if he were searching for something, from watching the staff to watching the members present laughing at something together. Tamamori quietly slipped his phone out of his pocket and snapped a photo of Miyata. He barely had time to look at it when the director returned and resumed filming.
When Tamamori opened his phone in the car, the moment his screen unlocked, it was still on Miyata’s photo. He smiled at it discreetly, hoping that not even their manager would notice the amused expression on his face. He went into his settings and changed his home screen to the photo. He glanced at it again before shutting his phone and putting it in his pocket.
A second after he had put it in his pocket, it vibrated and he pulled it out again to read a text message from Miyata.
Great work today! It read. At the end of the message, Miyata had affixed a heart which sent Tamamori’s own heart fluttering.
You too, Tamamori typed quickly as he smiled at his phone. From the mirror, he caught the eye of his manager and quickly looked away. He turned his focus up on the stars and he prayed that he could have that fluttering feeling in his heart forever with Miyata.
“Hey, Tama, do you want to go to the konbini?” Miyata asked. It was during one of their location shoots that he had asked Tamamori, who was scrolling through his phone.
“Yeah, sure,” Tamamori replied after not giving it much thought.
They walked outside to find a darkened sky; it was already night and they hadn’t noticed the time. They tried to make out the bright lights of the street to figure out the nearest konbini. It was one right across a main road.
Miyata and Tamamori waited for the light to turn green on their end right after they had missed it after only a few seconds. Miyata was busy fiddling with something on his phone while Tamamori kept his eyes on him. His mind was filled with his thoughts about what he truly felt about Miyata but he couldn’t get himself to open his mouth and be honest. It didn’t feel like the right timing. But something in his gut told him otherwise.
Tamamori felt a hand on his and found himself being dragged away from the spot he was standing on. When he looked up, Miyata was pulling him across the crossroad, light green. He let him do as he pleased, hand in hand until they reached the entrance of the konbini.
“What are you getting?” Miyata asked as he was halfway through getting coffee.
“Maybe just a snack.” Tamamori pulled out a sandwich from one of the shelves. He met up with Miyata at the counter to pay for their items. Tamamori began to pull out his wallet from his pocket but Miyata was quicker. With just a tap, the receipt was printed and they were out on their way back.
Tamamori kept his eyes up at the sky to look at the stars. Miyata was speaking and he was trying to listen earnestly but his thoughts drowned out Miyata’s words.
“Hey, Tama, the moon looks beautiful, doesn’t it?” Miyata asked. Tamamori knew exactly what those words meant but was fighting back his emotions.
“That’s not it,” Tamamori whispered himself. “The stars are beautiful too, aren’t they?”
“The stars?” Miyata laughed. “Isn’t the saying for the moon?” Tamamori’s blood was boiling and his chest was welling up. He didn’t like how naive he was, but it was simply Miyata.
“I wish I didn’t feel these stupid little things for you anymore if it were going to be like this!”
Emotions trampled Tamamori’s head as he walked away from Miyata. He was about to explode with every step, tears rapidly streaming down his face. He just wanted to find a place to cool down, somewhere he could process emotions before facing Miyata himself.
All of his plans were cut short when Miyata caught up to him, grabbed his arm, and pulled him into a kiss. He held Tamamori’s face as he kissed back in the middle of the empty street.
When Miyata finally let go of Tamamori, Tamamori was breathless. His thoughts came to a complete halt.
“Miyacchi,” he breathed. It was the only thing his brain could come up with. He was taking in everything in front of him, the way Miyata’s eyes glittered, the way his lips had felt on his previously, the way he held his face, his smell from when they were so close to each other.
“Tama-chan.” Miyata loosely gripped Tamamori’s hands, but Tamamori let go to hold Miyata’s face.
“I haven’t been honest with you all these years.” Tamamori looked straight into his eyes and brushed one of his thumbs across Miyata’s cheek. “I’ve always loved you. I know I don’t show it. I didn’t know how to tell you that I'd fallen. Every day, I fall for you a little bit more and today, I just didn’t know anymore. I love you—”
His words were cut short when Miyata pulled him into a tight hug, one he wasn’t expecting at all. When he put his nose against Miyata’s coat, he could smell the Lavons that he used on it.
“Is this the real Tama-chan I know?” Miyata whispered.
“This is the only one you know and love,” Tamamori replied, his voice slightly muffled.
“I always thought you were just brushing it off… but I didn’t know.” Miyata looked up at him. “But you’re right though. I love you too.”
There were no more flowery or sweetened words between them. The direct words they exchanged were more than enough proof of how long, how hard, how tirelessly they had been waiting for that very moment.
Tamamori wished on the stars above him that this was something he could treasure for the rest of his life.
Tamamori couldn’t remember when he had fallen. Yet, cupid’s heart-shaped arrow struck him and the stars that once just shone over him were in Miyata’s eyes when he leaned in to kiss him again.
