Ice Skating

Summary:

Song takes her daughters ice skating for the first time.

Notes:

I feel like this is so in character for them 😆

Work Text:

Song was taking her daughters ice skating for the very first time. Lio claimed to be too old for ice skating, and Benson was too scared to actually get out on the ice. Dave was just a safety hazard, as he easily molted and the slime from it would ruin the ice.

Therefore, only the three girls were going. They had paid to be there for about two hours. Kipo was very excited and Wolf had to admit that she was too. She had always been athletic, and she looked forward to just running around in circles on the ice. Song was just happy about getting to do a new activity with her daughters. It would make a great bonding moment!

When they finally got to the ice rink, the temperature drastically dropped. Somehow, it was colder inside the building than outside. The girls were thankful that they had brought extra clothing with them.

They found a spot for them to sit and put their stuff, before they started getting dressed. They had brought new ice skates as well as helmets. Wolf had protested at first, claiming that it would make her look ridiculous with all of her hair. Song had eventually reassured her that she would be fine, and that it would help her keep herself safe on the ice, as she had never skated before.

Dave had made a remarks about how he couldn't wait to see Wolf after taking her helmet off. She had promptly hit him on the head.

It took a while for the girls to get fully dressed, but they managed without too much trouble. They were warm and comfy and equipped enough to get out on the ice.

It was time to learn how to skate!

Song was the first one to get out on the ice, wanting to check the 'slipperyness' as Kipo called it. She took one step out on the ice, and immediately had to grab the wall for support as her legs slid apart.

"Woah!" she screamed out in surprise before standing straight. "Be careful, girls. It's more slippery than you think."

Kipo nodded, following her mother's footsteps. She didn't have as much luck as her, though, as she quickly fell on her butt with a yell.

"You didnt lie," she commented shakily, taking Song's offered hand before getting back on her feet.

Wolf was more prepared, now when she had watched both her mom and her big sister react to the ice. She carefully stepped on the ice, keeping a hand on the wall for support, just in case.

When all three of them were settled on the ice, Song motioned for them to start moving along the wall. They walked one lap around the ice rink, never letting go of the wall. When they felt more confident, they let themselves get further out on the ice.

Wolf was the first one to go, as she got used to the ice rather quickly. It didn't take long before she picked up the pace and started to go back and forth across the rink. Kipo joined her soon after, taking it easy as she didn't want to fall too much. Waking up with bruises was not a fun thing. Song joined lastly, at first reluctant of letting go of the wall. But she wanted to spend time with her daughters, so she took a deep breath and joined them in the middle of the rink.

After an hour, Wolf was skating around as fast as she could. It reminded her of running in the woods, except for the fact that she was on ice. Kipo was trying to do tricks. Having done ballet, she tried to skate on one leg and do a couple of spins. She fell several times, but it didn't stop her from having fun. Song was peacefully going around in circles, enjoying the sound of her girls giggling and doing tricks together. While she was too afraid to skate in a high arabesque like Kipo, or run on the ice as if her life depended on it like Wolf, she had a good time only by knowing that she was doing something with them.

Whenever she asked them if they needed a break, they would reply with a quick 'no!'. She almost had to physically drag them off of the ice when the two hours had passed and their time on the rink was over. Both girls pouted, but they were cold and hungry and clearly getting tired.

They sat down on their taken spot, getting their skates off. The feeling of their feet getting freed after being trapped in a tight space for two hours was wonderful. They got their regular socks back on and then spent the next couple of minutes eating sandwiches and drinking warm chocolate. The warm food was very well recieved after being in a freezing building for so long.

Kipo and Wolf had almost started to forget that things could be warm.

They left the skating rink together, holding hands as they carried their bags. They kept talking about their experience as they walked home, and Song couldn't stop smiling at their excitement. They would probably beg her to go back everyday. She wouldn't even protest. She loved seeing them happy and enjoying an activity together as a family.

When they got home, however, chaos resumed when Dave made a comment about how abnormally flattened Wolf's hair looked.
