D: Dream/George -Dream SMP

Summary:

George wasn't supposed to be there.

Notes:

Note: I wrote this a long while ago and I do not at all support Wilbur. I will not be using him in future stories and he is barely mentioned in here.

TW: Major Character Death

Work Text:

The world of the Dream SMP used to be so pristine, the buildings all tidy and neat and everyone working together in peace.

Now the ground is littered in blood, buildings blown to bits, missing chunks, whole forests burned down by the pyro standing in front of him now, nearly everyone on their last life.

Tommy is aware that this war is partially his fault, that he and Wilbur had decided to make their own nation in a world where there was no ruler and everyone wanted peace, but he was too caught up in the idea of being vice president that he hadn't realized when it had gotten out of hand, and by then it was too late.

L'Manburg stood behind them, mostly blown to bits, but still standing and Tommy wasn't sure why they fought for the drug van and river.

That wasn't the purpose of this fight though.

Tommy was determined to kill Dream.

Tubbo had been out one day, collecting flowers for his bees and was slaughtered by Dream, waking up in a rush of air and gasping.

He was the last person with two lives on the SMP and in Wilbur's absence, had helped keep everyone clear headed. He was the president's replacement and upon hearing of Tubbo's death, he'd had come running back with a vengeance, determined to kill Dream for bringing the boy to his last life.

Dream fought, sword swinging aggressively at Fundy, a fire burning in his eyes as he shouted that they should all just relent.

Tommy wasn't having it though. Tubbo was one step closer to death because of the monster.

So, while Dream was fixated on the fox hybrid, Tommy shot at him, hoping to land a killing blow.

There was a shout of Dream's name, startling the man who received a blow to his side by Fundy as George dove in front of the arrow, taking it for Dream.

He fell to the ground, the arrow protruding from his chest, the blood spilling quickly.

Tommy drops the bow in horror, a choked scream barely making it to his ears as the world seemed to slow as Dream fell to his knees before the man, screaming.

Tommy didn't want to hit George.

It was meant for Dream.

He would have gladly had anyone on Dream's side take it, but not George.

George had tried to stay as far from the conflict as possible. He built his home far from the SMP and L'Manburg.

The only reason he was here right now was because he had been in a meeting with Dream and Tubbo to try and keep the peace between the two, completely unaware of Wilbur's plan to attack them when they were least expecting it.

The battle around them ceases and they all watch, hearts broken, as the first warrior has lost their final life, either in curiosity of what would happen or in shock of what was happening.

Dream was still screaming, quieter now, voice hoarse as he started choking on his sobs, cradling the man in his arms. There is blood spilling over his arms, lining his lips as he hangs his head, begging George to be okay, to wake up and smile.

Tommy wants George to get up as well, heart breaking as he watched the seemingly heartless monster breaking before them.

No one moves a muscle, not even the sound of breathing or animals as George's hand raises, gently cupping Dream's cheek.

If the world hadn't already seemed silent, it felt even more so when Dream's mask slid away, the shock of seeing his face underwhelming when George's words break the stillness.

"I love you, Dream," he whispers, the sound somehow reaching all of their ears as his hand falls to the side.

Dream's head falls forward, body shaking with sobs as he presses his forehead to George's.

"I love you too," he whispers, the sound even more heartbreaking when Tommy realizes that George never heard it.

Wilbur stalks towards the two and Dream doesn't make a single move as Wilbur stabs him in the back, body sinking onto George's in a tight embrace and Tommy can't help but seethe when Wilbur does so, kicking a man while he's already down.

Maybe there's no point to all this fighting if the end result is the heartbreak that everyone leaves behind.

At least, Tommy thinks, the two will be together, hopefully happy, in the afterlife.
