Fanny stood outside, watching Tom and some friends visiting from school begin to ride off to hunt. Tom had his horse leap over a fence, and Fanny gasped.
“Fanny, what is wrong?” Edmund asked.
“That looks so dangerous!” she whispered.
“My brother knows what he’s doing,” Edmund assured her.
“Are you sure? But of course I’m sure he is good at it.”
“Of course! You will learn soon, I believe. My father said that he was thinking of getting you a pony.”
“A pony? For me?” Fanny asked in fear and disbelief.
“It is a fine thing, don’t you think?”
